Yeah, literally the one single example because they weren't going to make new motion controllers for PSVR. On the other hand, they're going to make a new handheld device with these same capabilities (and more) for next generation.
Unless they add some controller feature that can't be emulated with Portal there is no real reason not to let portal work with PS6 .
Sony is loving the benefit of having Portal

Reminds me of the early to mid 2000s where hardware could not keep up with software in some cases, so developers had to optimize more, and we received crazy jumps within the same generation of game sequels.
Then hardware got more affordable and expansive than software and optimization suffered through brute force methods.
Now we are back to that optimization phase again, only due to "artificial demand" through economic and supply chain manipulations.

Surprised that 50% of Portal owners have that high tier subscription. Seems like a good attachment rate.
It's actually people out here who bought a Portal just to use with PlayStation+ Premium.

Its because the Dualsense is one of the biggest features they marketed for the console that adds a different experience. The haptic feedback, trigger resistance and new design that offers better ergonomics. Outside of the SSD speeds in 1st party games, the Dualsense is one of the biggest noticeable differences for someone who plays a game on PS5.

Well, yeah. It's a remote playing device. If you don't have a Ps5.. you wouldn't have anything to remotely play, leaving the only option to be a streaming subscription.

and yet you can still deactivate all of that, in theory making the idea of playing native PS5 games with DualShock 4 COMPLETELY feasible. there was literally no reason for Sony to not allow you to do it outside of getting you to buy a DualSense

Also the PS4 doesnt have a USB C port, so no way to charge and pair the controller to the PS5. For most people the trigger resistance and haptic feedback are great, and PS5 owners look forward to knowing if games implement its features. I'm willing to bet games that utilize the Dualsense features sell more than those that dont.....

You have to have a Ps5 to stream from - otherwise it would only be viable to use with the PsPlus Streaming service specific games, not purchased software.

I have charged my DS3 , DS4 & PS Move controllers using the PS5 ports
Once PS6 eventually releases we'll know if the ps portal will stream from it. My money's on yes, Nial is clearly all in on no, because dual shock doesnt work on ps5....

Sony will have the PSP3 out by then. So I can't see why they'd need to shutdown the PS Portal in the future. They can coexist.

Then the big selling point of the PS6 handheld will be native play of PS4/PS5/PS6 games, rather than relying on the cloud as its been the case this generation.
Having the ability to carry on with your Portal into the PS6 ecosystem undermines the novelty of the PS6 handheld's on-the-go capabilities, hence why it doesn't make sense to allow the Portal to work on PS6 -- all going by your own logic.
The fact that 50% of Portal owners are paying for PS+ Premium makes it just as important as PS5 & PS6 especially when they don't have to make software specifically for the device & it still brings in money.

The console ships with a dualsense. Ergo, every PS5 owner has a PS5 controller. 100% adoption.
You know why the PS4 controller doesn't work with PS5 games.

Exactly, zero reason to withhold streaming from ps6 to portal, would work just like ps5 to portal. Portal will always be much cheaper than a ps5/6 handheld.

Updated my Portal. Tried out the new mode. Started up AC Valhalla. It has tons of green and grass. That usually does not go well with compression. When standing still i see no difference. Its marginally better graphically when in motion?
But for me it adds a ton of lag. The normal mode works flawlessly at my house. Almost to the point it feels native. But once i switch to the new mode i have almost a half a second latency. Switching back to the old mode fixes the lag.
I'll tinker with it some more tonight when i get home. Want to see if the Cloud version is the same. Or if i'm running up against limits on my Wifi router.

There might not be any technical hurdles, but by not allowing the DS4 on PS5, it make the Dualsense the only controller devs have to optimized their games for, and thus more likely to use the Dualsense features.
You're right, I forget that sometimes because my ports are taken up by external HD and headphones.
Fair point, but I dont think the Portal will undermine the PS6 or new handheld. A person who chooses to stick with the Portal wouldnt just stop buying games. To Sony they're still a customer. There are plenty of people who would still buy a premium handheld that plays games locally. I just think apart of not allowing the DS4 on PS5 was keeping mantra of being able to feel the games you play through the Dualsense consistent with the next gen marketing.

They stopped supporting remote play on the Vita and PS TV though
Vita remote play was PS3 & PS4 so even if you use it as an example that would mean Portal will work for PS5 & PS6
