What the holy loving fuck is this price? For some digital art and whatever the Mascot sets are for, they look like digital stickers. Insanity.

IIRC from when I was comparing versions, the only difference between the Deluxe ($97.71) and Ultimate versions is consumable, in-game items. The Deluxe version adds all the costumes/stickers not in the base Launch version, which itself has some costumes, etc. that presumably won't be included outside the promotional launch period. Close to $60 for in-game boosters is pretty skeezy, but on the other hand it is all distinguishable once you dig through the packages so at least it's clear to just not buy the top shelf package because it obviously adds nothing of value (and hopefully anyone looking at these price tags is at least doing that much instead of just putting down money).

The guy in the first video comparing it Felghana and Origins peeked my interest... Is it really that good?
I fell off every game I tried after Origins. Was never a fan of using multiple characters at a time in combat for this series, tempted to give this one a shot though.

X is my fourth ys game after I,II, and Origins. I'm a few hours into X and having a blast. You don't really fight as a party in an RPG sense. Adol and Karja fight separately until you hold down a trigger to engage bro mode and act as one. Character flows are more akin to changes weapons or stances rather than giving party orders since they each have a different speciality.

Yeah, it still has the core character switching, but you only have two characters and the flow is pretty different as a result. I think I prefer this approach overall. It also simplifies how you'll manage equipment and skills and all that, which is nice.

Ys was always my favourite video game series, until Ys X. Absolutely hated the gameplay. Just got Proud Nordics, Will try. Sucks cause my last name is littterally king of the northmen of Norman ethos.

Finished the game today and was very thorough about it. Clocked in at a little over 45 hours, so... phew. That was an undertaking. Great game, though, and I'm glad I waited for the Proud Nordics release even though the release strategy was moronic. The extra content in the new version was excellent.

I'm going to stick with my earlier sentiment that Ys X isn't as good as VIII, but it's better than IX. I liked the seafaring more than I expected to, and it felt like a nice diversion from running around and smacking enemies. It added a sense of adventure to the game that wasn't there in the previous titles. But that said, it also made the world feel less cohesive overall, and the islands felt more generic than I would've liked, rather than the more distinctive areas in Ys VIII. I do hope the next game takes a different approach to the formula - after 3 games like this, I'm kinda good. Great games, but they do have a tendency to be overlong and the combat can get repetitive when there's so much of it. I quite liked the characters, story, and setting this time around - Karja was a super likeable companion, and I was a big fan of the viking-esque backdrop. The story was pretty standard fare, but very likeable and with a surprisingly emotional end. Just a really satisfying game all around.

The new stuff they added to the game is pretty substantial, as it turns out. I had to look up the changes since I didn't play the original, but there are a ton of QOL improvements, and the new area is easily the best in the entire game and pretty beefy. I don't think the changes warrant a full-priced repurchase (especially since this is... what? $70?), but it is pretty great.

So yeah, really liked it. If you haven't played Ys X, you really should correct that.

Is Proud Nordics significantly longer than I&II and Origins? I'm only in the middle of chapter III at 14.5 hours played. I've almost played X more than the other games I played combined.

Yes, modern Ys games are around ~40 hours long, even more if you do everything and talk to all NPCs.

I'm a bit of an idiot. I was so into the game that I didn't realize there had been a transition between chapters 3 and 4. Chapter 4's boss was the first real skill check with it's curse mechanic and near one shot moves.

Öland feels closer to the Ys games I am familiar with than the rest of Ys X. Enemy density is high enough to get into a killing groove like Ys I&ii and the dungeons seem a bit harder with mini bosses from X being thrown in as normal mobs. I kinda wish the entire game had been like Öland from the start.

Is there a way to see a legend on the map? I think I get that green markers are for quests and blue are undiscovered poi. Is there a way to see which quest is which from that screen?

Ok, gameplay is better in this version. At chapter 3 now,
I regret not starting on nightmare since it took me 10+ hours to realize I could fast travel back and restock on most islands. I had been playing without refilling my bottles for long stretches. Hard mode does enough damage to force you to learn combat enough to beat bosses without taking damage anyways. I'm going to start on nightmare on the next title.
