Henry Cavill to star in Voltron movie

If they do this and Battle of the Planets, My dick will jizz so hard I'll attain a higher state of being.

Games Workshop aren't the problem. Unless the problem is them not wanting to hand over too much control to Amazon.

What rom com project is he attached to?
Games Workshop has their own goals and so does Amazon. Everyone has their own biases too. Creative differences happen all the time when making movies and shows. They can easily be opinionated on the types of content that gets made and limiting/too-controlling. Like any other project both sides are likely going to make compromises to come into an agreement

I thought you might mean The Rosie Project. That was from 2021. Pretty sure nothing more has been updated about it. I took an interest as I've met Graeme Simsion a couple of times. Lovely chap. Would have been nice to see it made, but it stalled a while back.

You're right that GW have their own goals, but the issues with the current situation are coming from Amazon, in terms of how the adaptation is meant to move forward. That's why I think it's good news Henry is agreeing to work with them on other projects. Speaks to a good working relationship that should result in an announcement pretty soon - fingers crossed.

I remember liking Voltron back when I was a kid, but I don't think it was ever properly broadcasted (not to any of the channel's I had access to) in my country. Instead we'd watch it by renting VHS tapes from the local store.

So, I only remember two episodes prominently. One is the origins story, where they tamed(?) the robot lions (and something about using rings to do it?) and the other was where apparently Voltron got destroyed and everyone seemingly died while drifting in space. I am quite sure they somehow recovered in the next episode, but I don't think I've ever watched that one.

This movie has been rumored for about 20 years, I feel. I hope it's good. I loved Voltron as a kid. Hell, as an adult, I bought the DVD sets. Lion Voltron of course not that silly vehicle shit.

That Netflix animated show wasn't awful. Please be good.

Ok. What they need to do is make Voltron, but with the more adult plot of Go-Lion. That would be great.

If they have an extra bit with the Go-Lion theme song, that would also be cool.

It's going straight to Prime Video, no theater release

Straight-to-Prime movies are usually not very good... but there have been exceptions. Hopefully this is one of them...

Is this guy actually going to have a project completed or not.

Highlander, Warhammer, now Voltron. Guy keeps being casted and we never see the result.

Isn't he little too old to play the protagonist? Thought Voltron/Golion's characters are like from mid-late teens to early 20s.... But I guess it won't have to follow the OG storyline verbatim...

I was never into Voltron as by the time I was aware of it, I was already into OG Gundam and real robots, rather than super robots.... I did love making the plamodel Golion as a kid though. :)

Not a good sign, IMHO. Amazon in particular has been releasing theatrically, Project Hail Mary being a rousing success.

So thry don't want to do the ad spend on voltron, which means its streaming fodder.

So it will not be another Hail Mary.
thats my guess. Even the most brain dead exec could see PHM was gonna hit big.

It's possible they think the market for Voltron is too small for wide release even if the film is good and are hoping for a K-pop Demon Hunter type streaming hit they can walk into theatrical sequels. Makes a certain amount of sense, a niche sci-fi film would cost 100+ mill to market at least. So if they thought it might hit 300-500 mill worldwide at best, then just streaming it from the get go might make more $$$ sense and avoid the risk of it bombing at the BO (which Cavill certainly has his fair share) and that tarnishing the films streaming release.

Or it's all part of a social media PR campaign, they will release a few trailers, use bots to give it a "Most watched trailer EVER!!!!!!" and then announce that the fan support has been so awesomazing that its going to theaters!!! That's the kind of silly shit I can totally see marketing folks pushing these days.

But most likely its just not that good and Netflix is cutting it's losses. If it's going to streaming before ANYTHING has been released or even teased to try to get the pulse of the audience.......ooph.

Cavill's career is pretty much dead.
He was fooled into clearing his filming schedule because The Rock convinced him that he was coming back as Superman, which fell apart after Black Adam bombed and set him back a few years. He's almost back on schedule though, with a bunch of projects coming out soon.

He's in another Guy Ritchie movie coming out this weekend, even.

The prosecution rests!

If I had to bet my house on a Guy Richie movie being a big hit or not in 2026, I wouldn't be too worried about betting on "not a hit."

Being serious about it, and I take no joy in it because he seems like a nice enough guy, being British I slightly cheer on British actors, being a nerd, I slightly cheer on nerds doing well.

But Cavill has always had a bigger profile in some people's minds than his work has justified, aside from being Superman. And in that case he was a good fit for a role that people like, but Cavill and everyone else knows the role is bigger than him, which is why he cancelled a series of The Witcher at the eleventh hour in order to take the role again. And he has all my sympathy for how that went.

Fairly consistently everything else he does as a leading man falls a bit flat. Not bad, but not gonna set the world on fire. Not bad, but not essential. It's why his most watched roles outside of Superman are going to be ones where he plays second fiddle to big stars, Tom Cruise - or even Millie Bobby Brown, because he's not on the AAA list.

I might be wrong, and I'm sure he'll make more on his next project than I'll make in the next decade, so I am sure he'll be fine. But I don't think he'll be fronting anything major any time soon, or even see a path to that happening that I think makes sense. But, who knows, if this Guy Richie movie reviews well, I'll probably go see it.

I kinda wonder how the WH40K production deal with amazon works. Does he pay himself to develop it out of the seed money amazon put in? Or is he writing stuff and whipping up costumes and set designs out of pocket in hopes amazon will bite? I hear about folks wrapped up in these sorts of "maybe it will happen" things for YEARS and YEARS, but never sure if anyone is actually making money if they never happen.

Straight to video is certainly not a good sign. But I'm still in for week or month 1. Loved Voltron as a kid.

Yep, me too. I've got my original Voltron from the 80's behind me, standing right next to my much larger Lego Voltron, so I'm ready! 😁

I still have my lion Voltron from many years ago, too. I always wanted the vehicle one, but never got around to picking it up.

My brother has the vehicle Voltron, I had (have) the Lion one. He was more into cars than I was back then. 😎

It seems you were 100% correct, good sir.

Highlander may be his last chance as a box office draw

ooph, thats a bummer. Guy Ritchie is hopping back and forth between streaming and theatrical, I think he's diluting his impact. And using a lot of the same actors makes it feel like you've already seen the movie.

But yeah, Cavill is probably gonna head back to TV if Highlander isn't a hit.

IF they use any of the Queen soundtrack -- I'll be torn. I don't want it used outside of the original, but ... that would be cool to have that callback. Man. That's a tough call.

Why is there a weird "Cavill is not successful" discussion around here?

Did you forget he is about to adapt Warhammer? To star in Highlander? It's not because he made a few stinker that he is done lmao, he still has a massive fanbase (both from boys and girls).

For me its the epic sweeping vibe of that Queen score. Tonally it's so over the top it keeps the film from getting too serious, but there are very emotional bits as well. And since ultimately its two dudes swinging swords at each other the rousing bits are necessary to keep the energy up. So many 80's films survive on the music of that period where modern films fall flat with lame equivalents.

Oh, I understand why it would be good. I was there for the original -- one of my favorite films, let alone 80s films. I just --- I'm just not sure it'll work if transposed.

But you know what? F it. I say do it.

I really wanted Villaneuve's DUNE to have at least an echo of Eno's Prophecy Theme from Lynch's film (but Lynch explored the mystical side of Dune, while Villanueve stayed away from it). So, I understand it.

Dude I tried defending and being charitable to his filming situation because The Rock fucked him over, but this so-called 'massive fanbase' doesn't seem to materialize when it matters. 🤷‍♂️

$3M weekend take is absolutely abysmal.

Had no idea there was a new HC movie.

Still not going.
