The Subnautica 2 CCU right now...

Ka-ching. Subnautica 2 just launched in Early Access for $29.99, and is already a massive success.

Edit: Updated the numbers.

Funny thing is there are a lot of gamers that dont buy Early Access games, either because they have been burnt in the past, or they simply dont buy games until they are completed.

It makes you wonder what this could of done if it was ver 1.0 and not EA.

....But is it Woke?

Already installed, will try it later. The only worry I have with it, is that it's lost it's feeling of 'despair' the first had.

Gentle reminder: "The studio will also remain eligible for the US$250 million bonus payout, as the court has extended the earn-out period until September 2026."

Yeah, I'll join later this evening... and will get it refunded most likely if it stutters like hell!
Put almost 70 hours into the 1st one. Got me mesmerized, even though it was a technical mess.

Didn't realize Subnautica was this big of a deal. Very cool.
It was one of the first 'Big' survival games along with Ark. It built its audience over time and new content over the years.

The sequel was always going to blow up.

And again this is while being a Early access game, while being on Gamepass, and while having a pirate version available for a few days now. Crazy.

As proof it has nothing to do with a PvP focused game mode. But it was pretty clear, you're just playing dumb.

Survival is an actual OmegaGenre (whatever that mean lmao). Extraction is not.

The natural order:

SP finds and hones a genre.

MP moves in and takes over when the genre is adequately unearthed. Subnautica 2 placed a lot of resources into MP design, but it will not usurp Rust, DayZ, or Ark Survival Evolved which all cater to PvP design more.

I told my Mom that Guerillas MP game should be a PvP survival game back in 2018. Anyone can ask her. Instead, we got Hunters Gathering for some reason.

AAA avoids this lucrative genre like the plague...

The devs themselves said that Subnautica 2 is a SP game, but a SP game you can play in co-op.
Its designed around SP though first.

Never knew the sequel would this big. The first game had peak CCU way back of about 50k.

Didn't follow the games and I don't think gaf talked about the sequel much at all.

But great on devs selling a ton! Always good to see success.

That's me, to an extent. I'll buy certain types of EA games but not the survival-craft stuff; I'd just get burned out before the game was finished.

On that note, might be a good time to check out the first game since it's on sale :D

Who know what the criteria is, but getting a $250M bonus based on a game that retails for $30 sounds impossible unless it sells at least 10M copies
