Colin Moriarty had his PSN account hacked. Apparently prominent PSN users are being targeted.

Neighbours from Hell

He said he had 2FA set up, didn't fall for any phishing thing, didn't click on any random links, changed his password recently, never put his information anywhere else but on his Playstation. He thinks someone inside Sony is giving away account information. He was also warned it would happen two days before by another user who was hacked and the hackers told him they got Colin's account information.

They also messaged Dustin with Colin's account and told him he's next. Colin said if he doesn't get his account back he's retiring from gaming and podcasting(probably just blowing off steam). We'll see if he gets it back.

That sucks, hopefully they will restore his account quickly.

Sorry brother, Sony needs to get on this shit and also maybe offer some sort of a insurance policy.

Because that's the typical behavior of a attention whore.
Behavior? He's spent thousands of hours of his life building up trophies and a lot of your purchased DLC, games, save data is tied to it. I think it's perfectly reasonable to be so frustrated with a company to essentially say "Fuck you, I'm done with you" if they can't help him out here, when they should be able to very easily.

If I had any of my accounts hijacked I'd be pretty mortified. I think he has a right to be pissed.

I hope this gains traction and Sony jump on it.

So he only uses PS consoles?
He was the PlayStation coverage guy for many years at IGN where they broke things out by platform. It makes sense that he would be deeply invested in that ecosystem, if not exclusively. His main podcast Sacred Symbols is a PlayStation focused show.

Still baffling after Sony had that huge hack back in 2014 to Sony Pictures, that the response wouldn't be to have some of the best digital security for their company overall.

Dude is well known enough and still has contacts at Sony so I doubt it will take long for him to get his account back. It's when this happens to "nobodies" like most of us that we are screwed.

Still, sucks for him, dude cares a lot about his account and trophies, if he really wasn't a victim of phishing and he has 2factor setup and all that then that's quite worrisome.
I went through something similar with my bank recently (which did result in me changing banks).

How do they get his account hacked with 2FA?
Should be really hard to do it.
Social engineering with the customer support?
Phishing login page in an email?
Or was he hacked on PC or non PlayStation platform and they logged in using cookies?
It's not common stuff anyway.

When this happened to the dude with the most trophies wasn't it a case of Sony support being duped into giving up the account? To call Sony support bad would be an upgrade.

Didn't he get persona non grata-ed by other journalists and Era-type people? I'm not sure California Playstation is going to help him at all.

I'm kind of glad it happened to him because maybe Sony will finally do something about this instead of being clueless about it. Did the guy from the middle easy ever get his account back?

is it that easy to hack PSN accounts?

There's speculation that someone inside Sony is doing this.

Feels like when my Instagram and Facebook accounts got disabled back in March except I didn't get any message other than FB saying my account violated community guidelines. All of this when I was asleep.

Meta support was useless, especially when they can only get accessed from an account (used a second one), so I am currently taking legal action to get my accounts back.

I don't blame him for not coming back if he cant gain access to his own account again. Hell, one time I changed my password myself and a week later I went to log into my PS5 and forgot what I changed it to and that was enough to make me walk away for about 7 months lol.

Wait, he changed passwords AND was using 2FA, how can he still get hacked?

That's just crazy. What would that person get out of doing this?
