Another gaming podcast says goodbye - The GameSpy Debriefings #170

We've run out of pizza whistles; we have no more swazzle stars; the chocolate caramel swirly soda fountain is empty. This is the end of an era for the Debriefings, but it's also the long-awaited Boozeocalypse II, so we're goin' out with a bang. Come on in and listen to Brian Altano and Scott Bromley drink themselves into oblivion, thanks to all the horrible alcohol you all kindly sent us. BRAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPP!!

It's been our pleasure to infect your ears and your brains with all our vile, sometimes-coherent ramblings over the past 170 episodes. If you missed out on any of the lunacy, have a look at our podcast archive, tell us how dumb we all are over on our Facebook fan group, or hit us up on Twitter:

Ryan Scott: @Rydog
Anthony Gallegos: @Chufmoney
Brian Altano: @agentbizzle
Scott Bromley: @Scott_Bromley

SANK YOU, AND GOODNIGHT!

Direct Download

You were often rude, annoying and hard to listen too... but you were also funny, entertaining and will be missed.

The final casualty of IGN's recent layoffs. Goodnight sweet debriefings

I can't listen yet, but apparently this group is doing a personal podcast once it gets money and the Gamespy guys are doing IGN shows? No?

It's sad when podcast shut down, but I was never a fan of debriefing or Gamespy. Their PS3 coverage has been pretty limited over the past 2-3 years.

I just don't know if it can be the same ol' magic without the whole gang involved :/ Without Ryan to make fun of, they might loose their edge :( The best parts where always when they were taking the shit out of Ryan.

God, I just loved the show so much :( GOD DAMN YOU, GAMESPYYYYYYYYY!!!

Sad to see it go. I'm surprised it didn't get a bigger following on gaf, given half the cast was podcast royalty. Bromley has always been divisive, but he seems to be really enthusiastic about the new project. The same for Altano. The chemistry was great, and hopefully it'll continue.

Good luck fellas, and I look forward to the Kickstarter thing.

I knew this day was coming after I heard Bromley was laid off from IGN. I'm super sad. I loved this podcast, and I always found myself laughing at it. If I was in a sad mood, I would listen to this and become happy.

Goodbye, Gamespy Debriefing. I loved you so.

For those who haven't listened, the four of them are doing another podcast independent of IGN. Coming in a few weeks.

I started listening to Retronauts around episode 95. Yeah...
I started listening to GFW Radio this year. Before I only listened to 1 or 2 episodes. With each episode I listen to, I realize there will never be another one around the bend. I know Out of the Game is still around, but there hasn't been an episode of that in about 6 months.

Really good to hear. And untethered from IGN, this can only mean more politically incorrect shenanigans. Although, even I was taken aback by Anthony's anti-Sweden sentiments. It went off like a sideways firework.

That may be true, but you do NOT listen to (this incarnation of) the Gamespy Debriefings for any game-related talk...

Time to put this old comedy horse out to pasture, looking forward to what's next from these guys, BRAP BRAP!

I'm super glad they aren't going away as a group, I look forward to being able to contribute to their Kickstarter fund so they can keep pushing the comedy button.

I eagerly await when the kickstarter project is opened. It wasn't everyone's taste but normally - if you liked it, you loved it.

tell me who to give money to to make the podcast.

also, it could be recorded on the comic store basement (like the geekbox!, you can listen at the geekbox at the-geekbox.net and also you can listen to comics conspiracy there, they're both fucking awesome).

and if you need love questions, then i for sure have a bunch of them, one shy example would be:

-my pencil is not as sharp as my friends are
-should'va brought some napkins
-i just took a screenshoot and sent it to a girl i like but i had something weird on the taskbar
-is there a why the water on the pool doesn't proceed into the body as a supository

etc etc, all fine and dandy.

Also, i'm sure that rydog reads this. Hello Ryan Scott. Hello BRian Altano. Hello mr Antonio Gallegos (ojala y hablaras espanol :( ) and hello mr scott bromley.

as a sign of respect to my fallen friends:
BRAAAAAAP!BRAAAAAAP!BRAAAAAAP!

They already made their goal, awesome.

but

OH GOD I have never actually seen any of the podcast crew before, and I wish it had stayed that way.

14k in less than 24 hours is crazy. i think the donations should have an upper limit if thats possibe on kick starter. donate enough to get them equipment and let them work out the kinks before dumping cash to the moon. a comedy video a week plus a podcast is a lot to live up to especially when all(scott excluded) have full time jobs and some have their own podcasts.

rebelFM got well into the five figure sums from donations and two plus years later they still have some of the money.

They can use that to update Tyler's gaming PC with an SSD or a better video card.

It's great to see how much support the Comedy Button has gotten already. I have no doubt they'll put every cent to good use.

RebelFM is basically done now. They have missed like 6 out of the last 8 weeks. They never do it anymore, and the couple of times they have done it the last few months, they are doing shorter episodes than they ever have before. And they don't even seem like they want to be there when they do it.

How is he a thief, exactly? People who donated to this project didn't know that some of the money would be spent on equipment like microphones?

My favorite podcast, still go back to listen to episodes. Gonna make a bank run tomorrow and probably donate some cash to their kickstarter page (which I didn't even know was up yet until just now)

This is absurd:

If we can't get $350 microphones, we can't do a podcast. Fuck off. You're a thief.
Generation entitled.

Best of luck to them by all means, though. Hopefully things work out for them. But I really don't get all the donation stuff, it really doesn't sync up with my thinking. Guess I'm from a different world.

Let me see if I have this argument straight:

1. They expressly state in their Kickstarter pitch that donations will be spent on the high quality equipment they feel they need to produce a year of podcasts and videos.

2. People donate money knowing that to be the case.

3. They buy, or at least make public their plan to buy six high quality, expensive microphones.

4. This makes them thieves from "Generation entitled".

Our intent is to get enough donations to fund an entire year of podcast episodes and video shorts. This includes creating a set-up that is of the highest professional quality, plus adding elements we never had before like the ability to answer live, on-air calls from people like you. And let's be blunt for a moment, videos are not cheap to produce. They're filled with tons of tiny hidden costs like sets, costumes, and equipment rental. But you can rest easy knowing every single dollar you donate to the show is going straight to the show. We will never pocket any of the cash for ourselves.

I thought a thief took shit - these guys are asking for help.. am I missing something here?

I am looking forward to what comes from these guys though. Even if they are thieves.

My God...its at 16,500 dollars only 2 days in...with 28 days to go. Hope they donate all over their needed amount (which was like 12k) to charity

we should see what they put out before calling them thieves. the rebel fm and area5 guys used their donations for the stuff they said they would. i expect the same responsibility with this show. i also highly doubt anthony and ryan will be part of the show if the others start to pocket the money.

i was thinking the same.

they've had scheduling problems and it's happened before as well. arthur left a note explaining it because people always bitch about where the podcast is. matt mentioned area 5 had a big job to do, arther might have moved, ign has had them out on assignments and so on. i dont mind sub 2 hour podcasts, especially considering its summer and not much comes out. i do look forward to hearing anthony's tales of minecraft next episode.

You know, they had good and bad shows, but lately, nothing's really been the hot shit of the Threadless days and the like. Oh well, I enjoyed it while it lasted.
