The PlayStation Vita In 2011-2012

Why are you assuming the post-launch window schedule is barren?

It's very possible that Sony is concentrating on the launch window games before announcing more. Today proves it - two more titles suddenly snuck in at launch. I think there are a lot more titles coming than you're assuming
Because I can't think of another system that has almost every game announced with a launch or launch-window release date.

I just think it'd be nice to be assured of the system's software road map, is all.

The broader 'launch window' games are pretty much 2012 games though, methinks.

I expect stuff like LBP and Ruin to be later 2012. Killzone, Modnation, Resistance spring to mind too.

Anyway, in a world where Sony's announcing games 3 months in advance, I'm not too worried about the flow. Yes, the launch is quite heavy on content, but they don't need to maintain THAT level of output through the year. 'Just' a good level, I hope.

I somewhat agree to an extent, only because the post launch-window schedule looks barren.
Post launch release schedule has games like Dragon's Crown, Little Big Planet, Resistance, Killzone, Persona 4 Portable, Call of Duty and quite a lot of otherr, though of course they are understandably focusing on launch. As we get closer to launch (and past it), I'm sure we'll know about the release dates of non-launch games and will likely get some new game announcements. E3 & other game events happen in the Spring/early Summer as well, which is where I'm sure they'll announce release dates & more games for the latter part of 2012 and beyond.

Modnation is a launch title.

This INSANE Sony lineup just confirms that PS4 isnt happening next year I guess?

We can only confirm this if Kaz comes out and announces Gran Turismo Vita for 2012, lol.

nah..we don't really now...but it might say they are shifting their focus completely to Vita as of now ( seeing two PS3 only studios now working on Vita) and this is something they didn't do for PSP.

Zipper made PSP games. Evolution's sister studio BigBig did too. But obviously BigBig is working on Little Deviants.

That's not really true at all. How about these games, which are all most likely not launch window games?

Ragnarok Odyssey
Time Travelers
Kyokugen Dasshutsu
Resistance: Burning Skies
Bioshock
Ruin
DJ Max Portable Technicka
Dragon's Crown
LittleBigPlanet
Malicious
Ninja Gaiden Sigma
Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath
Mortal Kombat
inviZimals
Mortal Kombat
Sound Shapes
Super Monkey Ball

This is the only reasonable explanation. I have to admit that I haven't taken a look at the release list in quite some time, some of the potential late 2012 games escaped me.

Why? If the games are being made by smaller teams, the larger main teams can still be working on Ps4 titles.

Potentially Vita will hurry along PS4. if Sony is correct with their 'almost a PS3’ comments, then the PS3 will start to feel long in the tooth if it's emulated by a handheld. So Sony will want to re-establish the home console tech lead with PS4.

With the Vita releasing at a premium price and the memory most likely at a high price and with so many options, it seems to me like most of the games wont sell well at all. Let's say the average person spends $420, that's 3 games, one vita and one $50 memory card.

Maybe it's too early to tell, but I just feel a large launch might not be the greatest since games like Uncharted and Wipeout will eat up the majority of saftware sales.

Damn, not interested in MotorStorm RC (Maybe if it was a proper game and not RC :/). Was super pumped reading about Unit 13 until I read there's no story mode and it's basically just a bunch of mini-game type levels (not really the right word but I can't think of it lol).

Unit 13 is basically Vita's answer to Mercenaries 3DS I guess. :p

Gravity Daze being a launch title is really amazing news btw!

Let's hope more projects like Motorstorm RC are being made because it would be the smart thing to do.

Smaller teams from typical Sony console developers (Guerrilla, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Sucker Punch, Polyphony) working on dual Vita/PSN games while the big team works on PS3/4/Vita can only be good news for Sony and the gamers.

What do you guys think?

I would love to see a portable game from a small team of Naughty Dog or the God of War team. It's what Nintendo has done with Super Mario Land 3D (created by a smaller team within EAD Tokyo)

If it means we get solid efforts from the best studios from WWStudios, I'm all for it.

Thinking about it another PSN title that is coming on both Vita and PS3 is Stranger's Wrath, is it possible it might follwo the same model as MotorStorm RC as in buy one get both?

I agree totally. Also, speaking about MotorStorm RC I appreciate the fact that we'll be able to play the game with up to 3 friends in split screen on PS3, and also play (the career/story mode of) it on the go on Vita. I wouldn't be so much interested in the game if I could only do one of the two things.

I completely disagree. This small game stuff should have gone to PS Suite instead.

The Vita simply cannot compete with iOS on mini/small games. If it's going to carve out a niche for itself, it's going to be on AAA games on a handheld. Unfortunately, Sony's strategy seems to be spinoffs of AAA PS3 games and Gameloft quality titles (which RC and Unit 13 seem to be)

I don't understand, the games are not "small" games, they are full fledged PSN titles which I am sure do have much larger scale than almost anything on IOS/Android. I really don't see how that's a bad thing.

The SDK for PS Suite hasn't been released yet.

I want Uncharted so badly, but literally NONE of those other games catch my interest...and the few that do have a home console counterpart (rayman, virtua tennis) that I'd rather play.

Not interested in Escape Plan? Gravity Rush? You sure you've looked at all the titles coming out, there's plenty of original titles that look good.

AR Table Soccer with local multiplayer on 2 systems could be really fun.

didn't look like it's traditional soccer, more like foosball or something, you're flicking the ball to direction for kick/pass, then move a virtual token (red vs black) to receive the ball or something.

The only place where monster hunter is really popular is in japan on the PSP

added an extra nugget - runaway success on the 3DS looks far for guaranteed and if that cut to 300k units on launch day is driven by poor preorder demand then <pacman>beeeeouuuuuuuuoww bwa bwa</pacman>

not that a Vita Mohan would fare any better - i'd be baffled if Capcom have indeed walked away from PSP Monster Hunter given the vast and rabbid userbase already installed. But hey, stranger things have happened.

And yeah - not sure the rest of the world gives a flying fig about MH (unfortuantely)

I know they're having one in NY next month. But it's not Vita exclusive.

Vita and any upcoming PS3 games -- Starhawk, Twisted Metal (maybe since they just did a showing last week of the MP), and maybe whatever, if any, announcements for VGAs. Last year I don't remember anything huge coming from the December SCEA event in terms of big news except UC3 was announced that morning but not part of that event.

For all who plan on buying digital PSP games, there is a sale on PSN right now for some quality PSP titles, just got Ys 7 and Ys 3 for 14.99 each, original dl price was 29.99 for each.

Unit 13 is quoted as launch window in EU so it shouldn't be too far behind. Also where's the Unit 13 trailer? It's not on the EU blog post. :/

Is this Vita too? Must have missed that.

There's a Vita tie-in coming that was announced at E3, but nothing specific.

As for Unit 13, here.

I wonder if they release the LORD of APOCALYPSE demo this week - their twitter info on that was pretty vague, as 下旬, the word they used basically means "the last 10 days of the month".
