not necessarily.

Just get your art printed on a good printer (one that can print close to the edges of the paper and scales properly), get it laminated, cut it out (by far the hardest part), and apply with some double-sided carpet tape.

Eh sorta. You'll have to get a full-sized sticker printed at Kinko's (or some such place) and apply it. It's kind of a pain in the ass imo.

A long time ago in this thread, I talked about doing the lamilabel stuff at Kinko's. Not hard at all, and at this point, mine has still held up great.

I had to give it two tries, but I got a Mass Effect lamilabel on my SE. It didn't really hold up after a few months so I must have done something wrong.

I rarely use it anymore though and now that my Poison stick is wired up, I plan to use that exclusively.

So, I received my Seimitsu LS-32 stick yesterday, which I'll be plugging into my ghetto Mayflash/Elecom stick soon (still waiting on some buttons I ordered from Lizard Lick).

Overall the stick feels pretty sturdy, and much more precise than the bat-top Happ(?) one we have installed in our X-Arcade cabinet. I noticed the slight "jump" the stick does when pressing hard against the gate, and although it feels very familiar (it's possible I played on some arcades with this stick several years back), I'm slightly afraid it might become annoying.

Is there any quick+easy way to mod the LS-32 to remove this "jump", or is buying another stick (looking at the LS-40) my only option? I guess I could get used to it over time, but since this is my first arcade stick "project" I'm trying to get everything as near-perfect as possible :)

By the way, here's the art I'll probably be using for my stick: http://i.imgur.com/jAzx6.jpg

(anyone know how I can post a scaled-down image on Gaf? The above image is prohibitively huge to post as-is without breaking a few internets)

Are you talking about the feeling of actuating the switches, or some other mechanical hiccup that happens when you get all the way to the gate?

The LS-32 hop won't go away. If you really want to be rid of it, though, you can either order the LS-40 parts necessary for modding it into an "LS-36" or just outright switch to an LS-40 (like I did).

Just and an "l" before ".jpg" to scale it down. Works with all imgur uploads, and I've done it for you in the quote.

Anyway, from an aesthetic standpoint I would reconsider the composition. You have all these different pieces at different scales fighting for attention, and stuff like the Eboshidori getting obscured by buttons.

My mouth: "OH MY GOD!"
My brain: "NO! DON'T BUY IT! DON'T BUY IT! DON'T BUY IT! DON'T BUY IT!"

It certainly is a handsome little design, especially with that slightly expanded gap. It'd be cool is MadCatz took some cues from this design for a new non-TE FightStick at some point in the future. :)

Ok, so complete noob when it comes to arcade sticks. But I want to get one for PS3/PC for use in UMvC3 and SF4. I've had a couple suggestions so far and want more of GAFs input.

1) Someone on GAF said I could get the Wii TvC and USB adapter. My friend said it's easy to mod but reviews online are iffy about PS3 playback, can anyone here confirm/deny on this?

2) Friend said a Hori stick
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0035N6KQ2/?tag=neogaf0e-20
I think it was this one.

3) Finally friend said this one b/c it's easy to mod and I can get rid of the wrestling logo for another one, lol:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004M23RAC/?tag=neogaf0e-20

When I say mod in all of these he said they all come with a square <insert name, forgot the name> and replace it with an octagon piece (the thing that controls the joystick).

I don't want to be pro, I just LOVE the button layouts of these and want to have more fun playing my fighting games, so I don't want this to be insanely expensive but I don't have a problem spending $50-$100, at least that's what I was hoping on.

I use a TvC stick with the Mayflash adapter on my PS3, but mainly for stuff like PSX and PS2 games. Works great as far as I can tell, but I have never seriously played a Street Fighter or a Tekken with it. Also, the stock parts are junk, so modding it would be your best option, but all totaled for that price you could just get a MadCatz TE or a Hori Real Arcade Pro.

There is a well-known feature of the LS-32 that when pushed relatively hard against the edges, the stick "pops up" a little bit (less than half a cm). It's noticeable, but whether it bothers you or is largely down to preference and play-style. For me, playing on the Happ stick for over 6 months in a standing position, I've learned to play more with my wrist (hell, even my entire arm at times) than my fingers, so currently I'm pushing it a bit too hard and the constant popup bothers me a little. I think that over time I'll get used to it though - it's already bothering me less now than it was yesterday =)

Thanks. I'll probably just stick with it for now (as it's not really a huge deal-breaker), and will most likely end up using an LS-40 for my next project :)

Thanks for the feedback, and yes, I think you're right. I felt there was something off but couldn't really put my finger on it. I'm considering making another design currently as well (like mashing up some sprites and making an "old school arcade games" collage), but if I get back to the Ikaruga concept I'll try to rework it a bit.

Why are companies so bad with arcade stick art?

Like, is it so fucking hard to arrange artwork so that it doesn't a) clash with the stick's color and b) isn't partially hidden by the buttons and stick?

Haha, yeah, it never ceases to surprise me. Some of those "designers" should take a look at the composition thread on SRK's Tech forum. That, or use common sense.

I got the wrestling one b/c it's on sale. Will just get a new cover for it sometime.

Could you provide a link to the SRK composition thread by any chance? I did a quick search there but didn't find anything that specific.

I love the form factor of those sticks, but as I mentioned the parts it comes with are kind of junk, especially the stick. Swapping out the joystick and buttons on my TvC stick got me hooked om modding now. Have fun!

Try the price check thread on SRK's tech talk forum.

Looks neat. Are those Happ or iL parts?

thx, apparently one is selling on ebay for $45 now...so it's probably not best to mod it (but its so damn tempting)

I have no idea if it's Happ or iL, would have to open it up to see.

I will take advice from my friend b/c he can do all this stuff and has done it on his current stick but I look forward to it :)

It's very easy so no worries. It's literally just unscrewing a few screws then plugging and unplugged a few wires with quick disconnects. Anyone can do it.

My recommendation is not to get the octogon gate right away and give the square gate a shot for a few weeks. No matter what, using a stick takes some time to reach a comfortable level. Don't expect to immediately be as good as you were with the controller.

On the octagon gate, that's what I told him when he told me about it being square, that I wanted to try it first and he agreed saying that some people prefer one way and others the other.

Thanks for the help GAF :)

Actually, the type of gate depends partly on what type of character you play.

If you're going to be playing a charge character (like boxer, dictator, guile, etc) then a square gate is a must. You will be holding the down-back position for 80% of the match and an octagon gate doesn't sit well on that position.

If you're going to play a regular ryu-like character with many quarter circle motions, then an octagon gate might be better, but do note that the square gate can handle this just as easily.

Point is, square gate is a lot easier to play with all the characters whereas the octagon gate pretty much takes charge characters off the plate.

TvC stick works well on PS3 with the adapter but the buttons are recognized oddly so you'll have to change them in every game.

You mean the Mayflash Wii->USB adapter? Yeah, it's pretty damn odd. For some reason ABXY are kinda inverted, L and R don't get used at all and ZL and ZR are L3 and R3.

The disc it comes with can supposedly change which buttons is recognized as what, but do any of you guys know if that change is applied too when using it on a PS3? If so, what would be the proper configuration?

Press and hold the Home button, then hit L, to switch it to "digital mode." The button assignments will still be messed up, X will be correspond to Playstation's X, Y will be circle or some crazy shit. You'll definitely have to reconfigure the layout properly in the game, but at least L and R will work.

Oh, that's great then, no way in fucking hell I would've ever been able to use it with my arcade stick like that XD

Are you trying to play a game with no remapping? Even then you could open it up and switch around the quick disconnects to get the buttons the way you want them.

Need a bit of help please arcade stick-gaf. I bought a Madcatz 2nd Round TE Stick and it was DOA :( which means I need to send it back. Do any of you guys know the size of the box they come in, not the stick but the actual box. I need to pick a box up from work that's the right size!

I REALLY need to get off my arse and finish my Poison stick.

No, it's just that it's literally impossible to map anything at all to whatever button L and R use (at least it was in MvC3). Opening it up and switching the connections would be too annoying since I also use the stick for TvC.

I'm going to leave for a flight to LA today and I was wondering if anyone ever has trouble bringing their arcade stick with them? I have it in it's own bag and want to bring it on as a carry on.

According to Keits, TSA workers tend to have no idea what they are so you might have to explain that they are video game controllers and hope it's not an issue. I have never needed to travel with an arcade stick, but If I were in that position, I would just include it in checked luggage.

It's only a few days trip, so I rather not check any luggage. I just have one bag and then one for the stick.

I've taken my stick to various places in europe like this without any problems. Most of the time they've just stopped me and asked what it was, actually got into a conversation with a few of the security team about SF, but once at Heathrow in England they took me aside and swabbed my TE after scanning it. I'm guessing because of the mess inside of it due to modding they thought something was up.

I realise you're in the US but I thought I'd share my experiences anyway.

Thanks, I guess I'll just bring it and see what happens. Hopefully it goes smoothly.

So, I'm seeing my turbo LEDs on my Tatsunoko stick light up very, very dimly when press my buttons normally now, with no turbo mode set.

Have I just not noticed this before?

Possibly. I just noticed this the other day when testing inputs on the PC with the Mayflash converter. I have never touched the Turbo or any of the dips switches on this thing before.
