Has anyone been to the AMC Lincoln Square in Manhattan? I figure that's where I'll go to see it, but I've also heard that the screen is gigantic and I'm a bit nervous that I'll get there, end up in a bad seat, and won't be able to see shit. :lol

That is the one I go to all the time. Yes if you get there late and have to sit up front or one of the lower level seats you will be hurting your neck. The screen is the largest in the country and that up close you might find it annoying. I know friends who have come with me and sat all the way in the back and still found the screen to be too large.

I make sure when I go I go early enough to get seats near the back. Personally I think its an awesome theater and the best experience for a movie so long as you can secure a good seat in the back.

For TDK I went as part of a ground 20 and we were able to get the whole back row to ourselves. Had to get there 3 hours in advance.

And as far as which IMAX theaters are showing the prologue I thought the tweet from the special effects supervisor said NOT IN DIGITAL IMAX screens. The D under that list of theaters means digital right? Cause the Lincoln IMAX in Manhattan does not have a D under its name.

EDIT:

Format key:
1570: 15-perf, 70mm
1070: 10-perf, 70mm
8/70: 8-perf, 70mm
D: Digital

That is the key from the website. Digital IMAX theaters will not have the prologue.

and the quote from the effects guy
"The Dark Knight Rises IMAX prologue will be released on Dec 21 with M:I4, but *only* in theatres with a proper film projector - no digital!," wrote Franklin, adding, "So make sure it's a proper 70mm projection otherwise you'll be disappointed!"

If that list is to believed, then the only two places in the whole of Michigan that can even remotely play it are at museums playing interactive kid's movies or whatever. -_-

Regarding the "theme" of the film.

I'm fairly certain the theme of the film will be "reflection". Both in terms of Bane's story mirroring BW and Batman, but as well as BW/Batman reflecting on his life, his decisions and actions.

The Dark Knight Rises prologue to focus on Bane hijacking a plane

The six minute prologue will revolve around the story of Bane, played by Tom Hardy, and his attempt at assassinating a Saddam Hussein-type dictator by hijacking a plane.

According to Rama’s Screen, which claims it was sent an email from a source who had seen the prologue, it is 'a mind blowing action sequence set aboard the Hercules plane'.

It explains: 'Bane and his mercenaries hijack a military plane transporting a dictator of a country which is in unrest (think Saddam Hussein type figure).

'He successfully kills the leader, but makes some mistakes along the way and is unable to safely land the plane.

'Because of the resulting injuries from the accident, he has to undergo complicated surgeries and that is how he winds up with that scar down his neck and the need for the mask to numb the pain.'

The film site claims that Bane's story has been radically re-worked by director Christopher Nolan.

'He is raised by Ra’s al Ghul [Bruce Wayne's old mentor] and his up bringing mirrors that of Bruce Wayne,' the site describes.

'It’s a mirror of Bruce, except it’s darker and twisted. Bane is trained to be an assassin for the League of Shadows.

'He kills political figures that are deemed unfit by the LOS. So he is a bit of a Che Guevara/ Jason Bourne type character.'

Bane is described as a 'revolutionary and an assassin' who is hellbent on starting his own uprising.

From British newspaper The Metro; I'd say this is probably very likely to be legitimate, the Metro aren't a tabloid paper at all. Read it on the way to uni this morning.

yeah sounds legit if a bit... out there. But the plot details corroborates with some of the shooting thats took place. In any case, the only imax in Britain carrying the prologue is Manchester (i think, unless there are others besides Odeon.) Fucking thing sucks

Could go both ways, but if it is true, we can assume that Bane's accident takes place around the same time as BB/TDK or after. This would explain why Bane is never seen or mentioned in the other films. Up until then he was just a regular LOS dude.

I read; just couldn't help myself. Sorta pleased that I did although knowing
how Bane becomes the way he is
is a bit much.

Having doubts.
So was this the sequence shot in Glasgow on the motorway, was that type of plane used a Military plane? I thought it was a private jet that Wayne lands in an emergency. I doubt there'll be 2 plane sequences in the film, and the source is just bullshitting. Obviously just postulating. And the topic seems like a could be a bit of a touchy subject knowing certain audiences

Will never forget the audience shitting themselves when the Batpod exploded out of that thing. People were losing their minds over all the shit that thing was doing, it was a madhouse.

The reactions to that sequence were amazing.

Anyway for that summary, it seems like Nolan is trying to very much solidfy this entire trilogy as some sort of complicated reference to 9/11 and the past decade if true.

What is the big deal if this is the case? I think it sounds bad ass.

I don't like when a character is changed too much - call me a traditionalist -

Nolan should have just created a new villain

And my biggest gripe of all is with the extensive list of villains to choose from, he picks one of the most uninteresting and mundane

Yes I know it's too early yes I know I didn't see it -
But I bet the majority of people in this thread would have loved The Riddler or Penguin over Bane

Really? The majority would have preferred Penguin? Dude, get over it. Don't impose your own FANBOY (not traditionalist) ideas on all of us.

So Batman can pretty much just fall off buildings now and survive? Let alone if the girl lands on his cape? Is this what you're telling me?

That was one of the oddest moments in TDK or BB. Not to mention the whole party and The Joker being wrapped up by just cutting to the next scene.

So then what do you care if Nolan makes some changes to the character?

Sorry I offended you so much

You cannot deny there is less excitement for this than TDK

The Joker is quite possibly the most recognizable villains in general, and not just for Batman.

Of course the hype for TDK was much greater coming off of BB and with the Joker as the main villain. Even still the hype was limited to internet followers up until the trailers came out, Heath passed away, and early buzz started claiming the movie was something special.

I doubt the hype for this one matches TDK simply because no other villain in Batman's world is as interesting, but once the trailers are out and the marketing kicks up with WB playing the "LAST IN THE TRILOGY" card I am pretty sure people will be plenty excited.

And if you don't like Nolan changing too much about a character, at least its best if he does it to a villain that is far less known than Catwoman, Riddler, or the Penguin.

I don't care if they deviate from the comic; not one bit. If it is done in an interesting way so be it. As for Bane being "mundane and uninteresting"; from what I have seen and heard, I have to disagree. I also wanted Bane over anyone else.

the elephant in the room is not having the buzz heaths performance brought to TDK. Also his death. You cant replicate that.

That's probably one of the reasons they wanted to get away with a very un-Joker like villain with the Bane.

I think the public's perception of the Riddler is one of manic asshole like in the 60s show or with Jim Carey's shitty performance in the 90s.

No one really knows a lot of Bane in the general public - so he's this unknown.

But yeah, there isn't the same amount of hype, obviously. The people I talked to in late 2007/early 2008 about Joker are the same ones who today are like, "It's kind of a circus - what the fuck is going on?"

Of course, the film is over months away at this point...

Will people be getting Bane tattoos a year from now? Will the creatively bankrupt be dressing up like Bane and post pics to Reddit for karma next Oct thinking they're the shit?

We'll see.

They proved they could change the public perception of a role - one played to almost universal critical claim and a part of pop culture - with Heath and the Joker.

I guess they wanted to see if they could do the same with a relatively unknown villain. I'm excited.

Seems the movie's already a hit.

You know, my cousin Dougie is still the one guy that is convinced that Jack Nicholson is still the best Joker (I know there are some people on GaF like that as well, but one look at their post histories suggests that they are retarded anyways - and to be discredited).

Ahaha, I had thought I saw some Bane Tatto already. Didn't someone already get the Batcopter too? Sans the blades now, apparently (LoL).

Whaaaaaaaa..?

Please tell me that was done with a couple of Bics in order to troll cocks like me...right?

Man, people with Tats like that are destined to be chugging along in Rascal Scooters in a matter of a decade, aren't they?

I mean, if the fact that that was obviously done in a prison with no anti-bacterial safeguards wasn't this guys death sentence already.

I like you.

Also, LOL at calling Bane a boring character, and being pissed that he's being changed at the same time.

Sorry if this has been answered, but is the prologue not being shown in select IMAX theaters prior to Dec 21?? I already purchased tickets for the Dec 17 showing of M:I4 at the Lincoln Center IMAX in NYC expecting to see the prologue =(

The only boring character will be Catwoman, I hope we won't see her a lot.

Also looks like I won't be able to see the prologue. :( Hope someone will record it ( and good quality ).

Oh man, I hope there's lots of Bane costumes. The masks will be hilarious.

so does anyone know if an imax showing mission impossible is GUARANTEED to be showing the dark knight rises prologue? after checking my local imax's website and not seeing anything about mission impossible, i called and was informed that they do plan on showing the movie. when i asked about the dark knight rises prologue, she said she wasn't sure. i then asked if she didn't know anything about it at all or if she was aware of it, but was unsure if they were showing it she simply said "i haven't heard anything" which didn't really answer my question. my local imax is a 15-perf 70mm set-up...

You should be seeing it then.

My gripe with the spoiled text is the timespan involved.
If Bane trained with Ra's for years, it was obviously in a time before Wayne's stint with the League of Shadows. Which would place it at least a decade before the start of TDKR. What has he been doing for 10 years?

Pretty sure it is being shown as soon as MI4 is released in IMAX, which is Dec 16.

I bought tickets for the same theater but I am going on the 16. I think its pretty much confirmed that it will start with the Dec 16 run of MI4.

If your IMAX is using a projector and not digital, it should be showing the prologue.

According to the special effects guy who worked on the movie, if your IMAX is digital it wont be attached but 70mm projectors will have the prologue.

I can make it make sense enough in my head.
Bane gets fucked up which leads Ra's to go find a new number two guy (Bruce of course). Meanwhile Bane spends his years getting fixed up/experimented on. Maybe in jail? Or maybe Talia break his ass out of wherever he is after Ra's dies. Who knows. If he was hurt right before begins, it would be at most ten years since, not at least. 6 months between Begins and Knight, 8 years between Knight and Rises.
