The Dark Knight Rises (Batman 3) - No Riddler

Sorry I offended you so much

You cannot deny there is less excitement for this than TDK
I think you are confusing between excitement and activity - two different animals.

The viral for TDK was humungous, we havent seen much of it for TDKR yet. Hold your horses, untwist your panties and take deep breaths.

All this connection with Batman Begins .. but is there a deeper connection with the plot of The Dark Knight, or will that film feel like the odd one out of the trilogy?

Also
The "Dark Knight" referenced in the title of the film is probably supposed to be Bane, not Batman, as he rises to take power...or something

So what's the word with special effects and Bane? Are we going to see a lot of effects to make him huge or is natural Hardy all we get?

I wish Nolan would not take such liberties with the Bane character or even use him at all

Sorry but this time I do not trust in Nolan

What liberties are you speaking of specifically? And Aren't all those liberties fairly negligible in comparison to how it seems Bane will be portrayed in the film? It's essentially, in spirit, the same as Bane in the Knightfall and Vengeance comics.

If someone can explain this to me, that'd be great.

I can make it make sense enough in my head.
Bane gets fucked up which leads Ra's to go find a new number two guy (Bruce of course). Meanwhile Bane spends his years getting fixed up/experimented on. Maybe in jail? Or maybe Talia break his ass out of wherever he is after Ra's dies. Who knows. If he was hurt right before begins, it would be at most ten years since, not at least. 6 months between Begins and Knight, 8 years between Knight and Rises.

At the end of those spoilers it says
that Bane is eager for his own uprising. So it could be there was a feud between him and Ra's and they become enemies. Which would explain the absence of Bane in the previous two films. They go their separate ways and Ra's must find a more trust worthy ally. Ra's in begins tells Bruce he was his greatest student. Maybe he saw loyalty in Bruce, and had more confidence in him than he did in Bane. He told him that ''there are those without decency, and must be fought without hesitation. Without pity''.

EDIT: Wait no, that can't be. Because I realize that Bane and Talia must be more or less on the same side. Only she may not know Bane's got intentions of his own. But by the time of TDRK, Talia's first priority might overshadow all else. Vengeance on Bruce.

So on the scale of good and evil, Bruce wants to maintain order and fight crime, Ra's wants to create a Utopia, and Bane wants to rule the world. That would be a nice touch. Batman and Bane, two opposites of the spectrum with their mentor in the middle.

You know, my cousin Dougie is still the one guy that is convinced that Jack Nicholson is still the best Joker (I know there are some people on GaF like that as well, but one look at their post histories suggests that they are retarded anyways - and to be discredited).

To be honest, I've yet to see a portrayal of the Joker that has really disappointed me. The actors they've gotten to play the character over the years have all done top notch work.

Ceasar Romero perfectly fit the campy, 60's Playing Card Joker on the Adam West show.
Jack Nicholson rocked the sadistic, manic Joker of the Tim Burton film.
Mark Hamil is the definitive animated Joker, who meshes both Romero's and Nicholson's Joker into, arguably, one of the most well rounded and complex versions of the Joker we've seen.
Heath Ledger surprised many by delivering a manipulative, genuinely frightening, ruthlessly intelligent Joker who fit perfectly within Nolan's relatively played straight Batman universe.

John DiMaggio's Joker in Under the Red Hood was weak, but outside of that, I think the four actors that have represented the Joker in film and television for over 50 years have done amazing jobs. I love them all, really, and it's hard for me to choose a favorite or the "best."

My gripe with the spoiled text is the timespan involved.
If Bane trained with Ra's for years, it was obviously in a time before Wayne's stint with the League of Shadows. Which would place it at least a decade before the start of TDKR. What has he been doing for 10 years?

So ... do you really think that
a whole organization was extinct because ONE DUDE exploded ? Also ... is Ra's al Ghul immortal? Are his methods supernatural? Or cheap parlor tricks to conceal the fact that an organization like that had much more than one leader since rome =P

Also, Talia

I agree. It's funny, because Batman hasn't been treated nearly as well in film or animation.

What i reckon
Bane is Ras' number 2, goes on a mission and gets crippled and incarcerated at that asian prison. While there he notices bearded Bruce wandering round. Ras comes to see Bane, hears about Bruce but sees Banes too weak to remain in the league. Rather than kill him he leaves him to rot in the prison, in constant pain and recruits Bruce instead. Bane someone breaks out and holds a grudge.

A lot of people might disagree, especially because of the heavy voice, but I think Nolan and Bale have come closest to nailing the character of Batman and Bruce Wayne. Suit could be better and I could do without the heavy voice but in terms how I imagine to act and be in a movie, they nailed it. Tim Burton and Joel Schumakers's Batman's were either completely different than what the comics had introduced or comical to the point of pathetic.

If you notice the trailer, you will see a Bane like figure crawling/climbing out of a hole which I assume is a Prison. I could be wrong though.

There have been more people to play Batman though.

Comparatively speaking the actors who played opposite all of those Jokers (West, Keaton, Conroy, Bale) were all very good adaptations for their particular work (I'd also throw Diedrich Bader on there for Batman: BATB), with every other Batman actor lagging considerably behind.

Very true, more actors have played the variations of Batman, so the average in quality would reflect that.

So I see this article on IGN and I'm like, "Oh, good. I can confirm that the IMAX near my house is film and I am good to go!"

Then I go to the site the visual effects supervisor posted to ensure that it was film. And it's a fucking digital projector at the Hamilton 16 IMAX. I am cry.

Then I notice the Indiana State Museum is film, but they usually show movies late. So I go to their website. THEY GOT THAT MI:4 BITCHES! OH YEAHHHHHHH

This is some bullshit.

There are only 2 IMAX theaters in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that is 70 mm. The rest is all digital.

Both of these screens are at science museums. I don't even know if they're going to show Ghost Protocol. And even if they do, the screens are those shitty ass dome omni screens. FUCK.

DFW is the 5th largest market in the US. And not one IMAX theater is going to have the prologue attached to it. FUCK ME.

I guess I have to wait for the inevitable bootleg.

The IMAX that is film in Indy is the Indiana State Museum one, and they will be showing Ghost Protocol. So I'd guess that one of your two science museums will be showing it. Especially because the Indiana State Museum was advertising that the IMAX version would be shown 5 days ahead of normal theaters.

The Dark Knight Rises prologue to focus on Bane hijacking a plane

From British newspaper The Metro; I'd say this is probably very likely to be legitimate, the Metro aren't a tabloid paper at all. Read it on the way to uni this morning.

I don't like it.

Funny thing is there is a scene with joker leaving the party that was in the script and was filmed. The second or so viral was a picture of joker sitting in the backseat of q car. Hope it sees the light of day some day

Me either. Bane looked too small, all the quick cuts made it hard to follow, and the CGI was pretty terrible looking.

Yeah. Should have left that in for sure, that and the tumbler seemingly coming to a stop on its head and then the next frame showing it landing on it's wheels are the two most annoying moments of the movie for me.

Any more info on this? Anything I can see?

Heres the script:

Well, Bane breaking down a reinforced cockpit door with his bare hands would be a good way to establish him as a...uh...physical villain.

Well if he is going to be a
political
criminal, then ughh. Not really a Batman theme I want to explore. And it almost guarantees some kind of lame motivational speech.

I actually agree with both of you guys.

Batman is a very tricky character to successfully pull off outside of the comics.

The animated series focused more on the Batman side than Bruce Wayne side, as did the Tim Burton movies, but I think the Nolan Batman films have done a really good job of making it somewhat believable that a character like Bruce Wayne could exist (ie, a man driven to extreme measures because of a grievous injustice).

I also think they handle the character of Bruce Wayne well, since he is often an afterthought in the other interpretations of Batman.

I actually wish they had a bit more of Bruce playing the "Billionaire Playboy Douche" more in the Nolan films. He's such an intense character (and Bale is a very intense actor), that it's fun to see him play a bit of a jackass every once in a while.

Keaton's Batman I still feel nailed it (not counting Kevin Conroy's awesome portrayal of Batman across tv/animated films/games). His Bruce Wayne was pretty solid. Kilmer's Bruce Wayne was really good, but his Batman was weak. And Clooney...I actually like Clooney, but not as Bruce Wayne or Batman.

Again, I agree with you both in that Batman himself has been a bit of a mixed bag in terms of portrayal, but mostly, I think, because he's such a difficult character to realize in the film medium. He's a lot easier to sell in the comics, but the moment you see a guy dressed up as a giant bat in real life, there are some, er, hurdles to overcome.

what.
how are you getting to watch the film that early. i don't understand the scheduling on these things sometimes. no coherency to it at all!

MI4 comes out in Australia on the afternoon of the 14th. We're also almost a day ahead of the US. Rather, Sydney is the first place MI4 is being screened in the world.

What's funny is that I would prefer if the bloody thing weren't attached as I wanna go into TDKR blind.

The only way to watch the Prologue is with half the IMAX screen cut off on a Youtube bootleg.

....at least I get the trailer....maybe....

bootleg is tradition. wb wants you to watch a crappy bootleg off of youtube.

I would bootleg it in 720p from my iphone for you guys, but I don't think I can shake my arms around fast enough to synch up to whatever action sequence opens the film anyway. Sorry bros!

I could've sworn the Webb Chapel IMAX was 70mm capable, but not according to that list. They must've converted recently?

This is what this thread needs, more crappy posters.

I think I might drag my niece over to mission impossible, MI4 looks fun but doesn't seem like as good as an excuse that I Am Legend was.

You shut the hell up, sir!

MI4 will rock the tits. If anything, the prologue is just making me wait an extra 6 minutes to have my senses dominated by Brad Bird and Tom Cruise.

how the fuck you gon say some shit like "Batman Must Come Back" when "There's gotta be a Batman" is right there, come the fuck on

I wonder why it was cut... its so short it seems silly for pacing to have been the reason.

Also, I thought it would have been neat for batman to rush back up there only to find everyone in shock/some in tears and one dead body lying on the floor. Kinda play up the "results of your choices" angle a bit.

Then again, there are several odd things about TDK that could easily be fixed and, yet, aren't.

Maybe Nolan will breakdown and do a directors cut in 10 years.
