Hey nerds! If there's one thing you always wanted it's comics you can only read one month out of the year, right? RIGHT??

Batman: Noel
Batman hunts down one half of the Mighty Boosh Noel Fielding for the crime of looking too good in leather trousers. Ooh err!

Jingle+Belle+vs+Frankenstein.jpeg

Jingle Belle
Paul Dini's elf fetish knows no bounds!

Superman: Peace on Earth
Fat Supes fills in for Santa after Brainiac puts the north pole in a bottle! Or something!

x-men_165.jpg

I don't know what this is, but BOOBS!

So GAF, are you expecting a metric ton of paper for Christmas this year too?

Maybe I'll give Noel a chance some time this month. The preview in the back of every DC issue for awhile turned me off.

Still one of my favorite Christmas specials.

Yesterday was a great comic day.

High school bully tries to take on Malcolm Dragon. Then Overlord confronts Malcolm with poor negotiation skills. LOL LOL LOL

Spaceman #2 is rolling. Now that I'm prepared for the cadence and language of Azarello's crazy future world.

I'm still trying to unload some hardcovers, and them there Japanese funnybooks:

Black Jack 3 by Osamu Tezuka (2009, Paperback)
No. 5 by Taiyo Matsumoto (2002, Paperback)
Loveless: A Kin of Homecoming by Marcelo Frusin and Brian Azzarello
Justice Society of America Thy Kingdom Come 1
Justice Society of America Thy Kingdom Come 2
Justice Society of America Thy Kingdom Come 3
Shazam the Monster Society of Evil
Defenders: Indefensible by Keith Giffen
Avengers The Initiative 1
Cover Girl by Andrew Cosby and Kevin Church

Oh shit, just noticed my typoooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Noooooooooooooo!

And cheers Benjamin :D

So, what are we all expecting from the comics eleves this year? I get money, but with said money I'm going to buy American Vampire vol 2, Chew vol 4 and one other book that I can't decide on.

After listening to a recent episode of 11 O'Clock comics I'm sorely tempted by DC Universe Legacies, since the artist roster sounds ridiculous (one of the Kubert kids inking his dad, some Quitely, Brian Bolland, JH Williams, Scott Kolins...). But then again it's written by an old guy, and I have not read one comic written by an old person in the last 10 years that is worth the paper it's printed on. And it has Dan Jurgens, which is serious minus points...

A superheo?

Damn. You.

Santa is the worlds greatest (and only) Superheo. I'm owning it, new concept, new phrase. Copyright me (and GAF, I suppose, curse you Evilore!)

I'm new to comics, well I've been away from comics for 10+ years anyway. I really need some help.

I have an iPad and only want to read digital comics with comiXology. So far, it's been pretty easy with DC and The New 52 same day as print. I jumped right in with those. I'm having a lot of problems with Marvel and other publishers. As I understand it, Marvel is going same day as print with all its titles in March 2012? If that's the case should I just wait until then?

For instance, I want to read Thunderbolts. I believe that comic is somewhere in the 160s, but I can only find it going to the 130s in digital. Basically, I'm looking for advice on where to jump in with Marvel or just wait until March. Here are some of the Marvel titles I have interest in, feel free to let me know where to jump in with these or other titles you may like.

Avengers
Captain America
Spiderman
Fantastic Four
Iron Man
Hulk
Daredevil
Thunderbolts

Feel free to recommend any other publisher or independent titles. So far, I've picked up RASL vol. 1 but haven't had a chance to read it yet. Thanks for any help.

Wait. DCU Legacies apparently has a backup story with Walt Simonson inking Frank Quitely. That's if the DC Wikia can be believed. I want to believe...

It's got Jesus Saiz on it too, and Bill Seinkiewicz... holy moley.

Marvel are kind of rolling out their digital stuff on a book by book basis. I think that Fantastic Four and FF went digital starting with 600 the other week (which is a teeeeerrible place to start reading). The Ultimate books are all day and date, as are the X-Men books. Don't think Spidey is yet, nor is Daredevil. No idea about the others I'm afraid.

I think by this time next year everything will be available, but right now it's a little patchy. Still, there is a lot more available now than even 2 months ago, it's ramping up fast.

Dark Horse have a lot of stuff in digital (apart from the Buffy stuff), but they have their own app.

WAT? When is this out????

Now, AFAIK. Ten issue mini, all in one hardcover collection.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Universe:_Legacies

I'm so tempted, I wish I could read just one issue to see how good it is before taking the plunge.

EDIT (to stop me posting more in this thread): the Top Shelf stuff on Comixology is pretty damn good. Gingerbread Girl looks cool, they have an old, 100 page Jeff Lemire book for £2.49, and the whole 500 page Essex County for a tenner, Box Office Poison and From Hell for the same price, and a manic looking book called Infinite Change Bots for a paltry £1.49. Wow.

ONE MORE EDIT: has anyone read the Popgun compilations? They look cool as fuck. This is what I get for having a rubbish comic shop for the past 4 years, my old shop would have forced this into my hands...

Well as someone posted before, Marvel won't be going all digital until 2012, but Avenging spider-man which just had a number 1 a few weeks ago is digital if you can find that. It's basically marvel team up featuring spider man, I really thought it was great fun and the art was nice as well. I think that's the first marvel title that is day and date digital

As far as the Thunderbolts go, you may want to go and get the trades of Jeff Parker's run which is ongoing and starts at #138. Him and Kev Walker are doing some great stuff on their run so far

So as if FF hadn't already been a slow burner plot-wise, its now stuck with some of the worst 'art' I've seen in a mainstream book for quite some time?

Why the fuck does Marvel employ some of these mooks? Has anyone else seen it? The faces! THE FACES.

Fuck yeah! Apart from those pesky digital rights issues (I am missing Buffy dearly), Dark Horse is doing some great stuff with their digital offerings. I've already bought a Mass Effect collection from them very cheaply, they do great deals. And this sounds even better.

Emma Frost is a man confirmed. Must be her tertiary mutation.

I can get behind that. Or in front of it, whatever she tells me to...

I don't mind Bobillo but his style has definitely changed since She-Hulk.

aha, here we go:

No Valerie! Get out of my mind! NOOOAAARRGGGHHHHHH.

As I wrote in the Nov. thread, Sonic 231 was pretty good IMO.

Looking forward to reading Tiny Titans later this friday X3

When did they put Tony Stark's face on Emma Frost? I don't see a mouth, just that playboy mustache.

It'd be hard for anyone to follow Epting, but Bobillo's style is much, much more cartoony. Which is fine by me, but with the stark difference in style, he was doomed to get bad press.

Eh, Epting could barely do 2 issues without a fill-in, I think the other guys did more issues than him during that run. The book has terribly inconsistent art.

Santa is a really lame superhero. If he was so great, Christmas wouldn't need to be saved so much

and he got beat up by Ultimate Warrior once

Ah man, FF really looks like that? I haven't read it yet so I'll hold judgement until later today but it looks like a weird cross between the Clone Wars TV show and some Nick cartoon.

I got actual hate mail for giving this a bad review.

Larfleeze fans are serious. I actually don't like the character but I still had fun with the story.

another choice cut I saw someone post:
xlifV.jpg

Also I guess I am so far out of the loop, because I had to ask comic shop guy what the fuck was going on since it seemed like I missed an issue and they directed me to Fantastic Four 600, something I just thought was some retro anniversary thing telling some untold story.

They really fucking brought back Johnny Storm this soon? They really did it. One year and not even a finished FF arc to its name. Fuckin' comics.

Calling Juan Bobillo a hack? Well now I've seen everything.

Honestly, you people deserve a 90s comeback. >:|

Seriously, what the fuck is going on here.

In an industry where people send in "digital pencils" with no inking, or fucking tip in a PHOTOGRAPH of a poppy field instead of drawing the actual flowers and you call this guy a "hack" because you don't like his style?

Fucking shameful. Seriously.

seriously, wtf?

there are so many good artists waiting to get picked up by somebody at the big two. i don't understand how so many bad artists get chosen instead.

Maybe editors know these guys can keep on schedule for the most part and don't want to risk a chance on a flaky guy you know nothing about jumping right in as a primary artist? Also, knowing the right people helps.

Calling Bobilo a hack because the art style is not to your tastes just seems wrong. It's not as if the guy is ripping of someone or photo referencing everything and putting out offensive material.

As far as Johnny's return, it seems soon because of all the double shipping with FF but everyone who has been reading comics for a while could see this coming from issue #588. The story is far from contrived because it's been Hickman's plan all along. FF #600 was fantastic.

Here we go again.

No no he's a wonderful artist that chooses not to draw human faces. Better?

If you like these wonderful artists that choose not to draw human faces, good on you. I find them to be hacks that are so into their style they forget they are drawing for a public that want their superheroes to look 1. Heroic and 2. Human.

Reed Richards looked like a fucked up claymation doll. Yes that's a style. A hack's style. Deviantart is full of these artists.

He must have been hired for his ability to turn in quick product.

Every con I go to is full of amazing artists. Marvel loves to pick these Vertigo wannabes and give them mainstream supers books.

Regarding Bobillo I liked his work on She Hulk. Fit the nature of the title. I admit that unconventional artists like Ramos, Canete don't always work for me and their anatomical exaggeration can be downright ugly, but I don't think they are hacks. Art is highly subjective.

Just had you on my Ignore List for about thirty seconds until I realized that wouldn't really solve the problem.

Anyway, it's troubling and a little sad to see this attitude in someone who enjoys the medium.

"Choos[ing] not to draw human faces," shit. I'd love to see you say that to the dude's face at a con. That is just the worst kind of insult to an artist.

As far as "Heroic" goes, Sean Murphy doesn't really draw "Heroic" characters.

Yet, check this out: http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2011/332/5/4/batman_rotation_by_seangordonmurphy-d4hk45d.jpg

Oop, it's another one of those "Deviant Artists," huh.

Who is this guy anyway? I doubt he works with any writers of note, or whose work you'd like.

Totally doubt it.

EDIT: And he's totally a VERTIGO WANNABE!!

See the diffence is that when you love someone you seem to want to shit on and shame people who don't.

Its not shameful. It's an honest opinion, with no prior malice or judgement.

People like and dislike different things. Sometimes they will conflict with what you like and dislike. You are not going to disprove me with links as its completely subjective.

The fact that you ignored me for disliking an artist is what's shameful.

You didn't "dislike" him, you claimed he was untalented. Don't play like what you did was just "disliking" an artist.

Subjective is not the same as Objective.

I hate Neal Adams. I would never say he was untalented.

So what if I called him untalented? That's subjective as well. You always seem to forget that too. I used the word hack, and I stand by that. He is drawing for a mainstream book and chooses to make people look like a ashcan handout at a fan con. Great Artists change up their style to fit the project.

I'm done being jumped on for having opinions. You may be too close to the material if you think ignoring and attempting to shame someone is a proper response.

Jeepers creepers, forget it.

I won't bother showing you the dictionary definition of "talent," I'll just stop talking to you so you don't feel like you're getting "jumped on".

And who was trying to shame anyone into anything? Crossing the line between subjective opinion and objectively writing off someone as a professional is what was shameful. You can think what you want, why would I try and change it?

Nonsense.

On a more real note, the Marvel iOS app just updated to match the UI and functionality of the awesome 3.0 ComiXology and DC apps. You have to redownload your comics but there is cool Restore option that makes it easy.

Digicomics go!
