:O

Cannot wait! It's going to be hilarious!

The best thing about the show is they have no limit or bias on what they make fun of.

Well I am surprised. The hype was greater than this of course, but that was our own fault. I figured it would be an existing property that either never had a game before or wasn't expected to have a game like this (RPG).

Understandable, but I don't get the people in the topic posting that they don't care. I don't care about Tintin because the subject matter doesn't really appeal to me. That doesn't mean I go into the Tintin thread and say 'Who cares about Tintin anymore?'
This reveal was hyped quite a bit, it's only natural to see the entire spectrum of reactions after something like that.

Never before has an image summed up my feelings so succinctly

This has the potential to be amazing...But it could also go completely in the other direction. Hmmmmm, not sure how to feel.

BUT MAYBE THIS GETS US ONE STEP CLOSER TO THE ADVENTURE TIME OPEN WORLD ACTION/PLATFORMER.

Yes, it was suppose to be a big surprise game, so everybody with any interest in video games basically shouted out their answers, so when they didn't get Viewtiful Half-Chrono Trigger 3, you get a lot of disappointed reactions.

Was it wise to get that hype for something that could be anything? Well no, but thisisneogafdude.gif

I'm not into South Park like I was in the late 90s but I still think this pairing is kinda cool. It might work out.

the reactions to the reveal in the older hype thread are hilarious. lol

Awesome news, totally unexpected. I love South Park so I love the idea, but I don;t get all the hate. SO its not sequel number 100 of a well known game, for once it came totally out of left field. Obsidian is great, South Park is great. They are making a South Park RPG!! I hope it doesn't disappointing.

Trey and Matt have constantly made episodes sorely criticizing, making fun of, exploring, venting their hype over gaming. They love games so I bet they're not gonna let some crap game come out. I bet they thought this through and they really wanted an epic game based on their universe. I bet it rocks, I hope it rocks.

Surprising news, I'm listening keep it coming. Hell I loved the crappy FPS back in the day, that's how much I love South Park.

Is that show still relevant? (I'm serious, I don't know.)

Very much so. I sort of lost track of it after the first few seasons when all the jokes seemed to be the same. Watch a newer episode, they are actually funny as hell somehow relevant now more than ever.

TAKIN ARE JERBS

Well it certainly lived up to the surprise they promised, I think. If it had been almost any of GAF's predictions it wouldn't have been as surprising.

I'm looking forward to this. South Park is still pretty awesome (though some episodes mores than others), and I love me some RPGs. It should be great since Matt and Trey Parker are writing it, too. I don't think they'd get involved with something like this or get behind it as much if they didn't have something awesome and hilarious to do in the medium. They apparently did well with Book of Mormon (I really want to see it), so I have hope they'll do well here, too.

Good times on the N64. Yes, and when I think of South Park and Obsidian (loved KOTOR2) I just ... I dunno. Sounds perfect.

I'm watching the "Broadway Brodown" episode from last month over HERE and laughing my ass off.

I just hope the game is M Rated so they can fill it with jokes like this.

Well that was a surprise, I'll give them that.

Potentially down for a Southpark game, but Obsidian has been extremely blah for a while now, so I don't have much confidence.

I find this really interesting. It is new and fresh. You have a company that understands how to craft narratives within a video game environment working with talented humorists. The art style is perfect for games as well; it won't really be resource intensive but you can get interesting backgrounds with bold colors. It's absurdist contemporary fantasy which is a breath of fresh air from a gameplay standpoint alone (getting medieval fantasy fatigue this year)

I imagine something using Obsidians mastery of vignette style storytelling to explore stories involving all the varied characters/locales in the South Park universe. Even though Parker/Stone will be writing most of the dialogue I don't doubt that they'll be collaborating in terms of how to set up the narratives and hook them together which is what Obsidian excels at moreso than dialogue.

I'll be disappointed if there aren't at least some nods to Earthbound/Mother. Technical issues I believe are minimal because Onyx engine appears rock solid; DS3 was bad because Obsidian doesn't know how to make loot games (Or chose not to) not due to bugs.

At least they don't have to blow millions on a ton of voice actors for this :lol

Also I'm going to get this in before the game comes out.....in before people play the game and complain there's only like 2 voice actors :P

Awesome. i remember some of the Obsidian people talking about wanting to do a high school comedy rpg years ago when their site first came up. At least i think it was the Obsidian site. Might have been the old Interplay boards and Black Isle.

Let Matt and Trey write the jokes and have Obsidian work with them on the flow and structure of choice and consequence.. then you throw in some wacky Earthbound/Superhero League of Hoboken-esque rpg system design.. sounds like a winner to me.
