Kentucky church bans interracial couples

As long as humans, races, and homosexuals exists, so too will racism and homophobia.

Fixed. In other words, as long as there exists someone to fear or misunderstand a thing, real or imagined, it can and likely will continue to be feared or misunderstood. I'm no fan of religion, but it's the people that do the footwork, not the idle texts or benches.

Reminds me of back in the 80's when a University of Kentucky basketball player, Rex Chapman, was getting threats over having a black girlfriend. Good old rural Kentucky, forever stuck in it's racist past.

Racism in Kentucky? And hypocritical, too (Pssst. Moses was married to an Ethiopian woman, you numbnuts).

THIS.

Numbers 12:1

"Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married, for he had married a Cushite woman."

verses 9-10:

"And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them, and he departed. When the cloud removed from over the tent, behold,Miriam was leprous, like snow. And Aaron turned toward Miriam, and behold, she was leprous."

The church is free to do what the hell it wants, why is this an issue?

If you go to the church and you're an interracial relationship, you obviously want to stop going there anyway after this, even if its reversed, cause holy shit racists all up in that joint.

Because it's taxpayer funded.

So what are the rules for fractions?

Like, if the guy is 3/4ths caucasian and 1/4 african, and the girl is 1/2 african and 1/2 caucasian?

Or are mixes just not allowed in?

Louisville literally carries this state :(

Perhaps the rest of the state should be ashamed that residents of Louisville are 8 times more likely to be a victim of a violent crime than the state as a whole. I'm just sure none of those crimes are racially motivated. That never happens, right? It's hard to feel pride knowing Louisville has a murder rate 5 times higher than the national average, with 1 out of every 3,571 people statistically guaranteed to die by homicide. In Lexington the rate is 1 in every 25,000 (lower than the national average). I'm sure Louisville even has a number of churches with racist bigots, but who has time to report on it with so many people getting shot?

Despite all that I really like the city, but it has plenty of problems and a few of them bother me just a little more than a handful of racists living in rural Appalachia. Keep it coming, guys. Your city is no more a shining beacon of hope and virtue than anywhere else, no matter how many times you insist otherwise (and we know you will, because you do it constantly at every opportunity you think you can justify).

So would that mean in some weird sick perverse way, you have to give a little credit to the ones who actually DO own up to it?

There are some people who prefer the outright racists because then at least they know where they stand vs. the unintentional racism of white liberal guilt.

By separatists do you mean the Confederacy?

There have been alot of separatist movements by all races. One philosophy is that in a racist society, the dominant culture would never allow minorities the chance to elevate themselves to an equal level. So by practicing separatism, they would be able to build up their society/economy and interact with others on an even playing field instead of being viewed as 'lesser than'. (Better to be separate and equal than integrated and shat upon)

Malcom X preached similar philosophies during his early years.

Damnit, so you're saying if I move to Kentucky and find a black girlfriend I want to marry, we have to go to one of the other million churches in the state? I wanted that one!

.

There's such a social stigma against racism that no one will ever own up to it, even if they are by any definition.

This. I've never met a racist who owned up to it - it's as if they're strangely ashamed of their own hate. Why do you think that is?

Besides this is not an issue in the sense they violated some law; more of an issue to see that this sort of backward racist attitude still exists.

Yes this.

The fact that people are brushing this off as 'Silly racists! So cute' is terrible.

One of the dudes daughters. She brought some African dude to church and people got PISSED. I haven't really met any overt racists in my life, I think it would be fun.
It depends on how many are with you.

If alone "fun" turns into a minimum of "slightly worried".

Are you familiar with the presidency of Barack Obama?

I meant to put an explanation point after my sentence regarding the one drop rule. But I am aware of Obama. Sad that he was forced and felt comfortable being identified as black rather than identifying biracial. Well there isn't even an option to begin with. Sad case that biracial's (black/white) have to identify as being "black" because of a stupid rule. I don't have a problem with it per se. But I want to honor both parents for their open minded decision to love one another for their character and not skin color.

lol

i wonder if he actually believes he is not racist

This is exactly how racism works here in southeastern Kentucky. Most people don't dislike people of color, they just see them as somethig different and lesser than they are. (Which I guess is how racism works everywhere).

And with this, I'm unsure if you are an embarrassment to your city or if I should go ahead and be prejudice and say your city is an embarrassment to the rest of my state. Sad to say, but I think I've encountered more judgemental, self-absorbed assholes from Louisville just on this forum than there are members of this church. Thankfully I have enough friends in Louisville to know that not all of its residents are like you.

Unfortunately the only decent people I know from Louisville is a girl I went to college with and Godfather...

speaking of which, Godfather, when are we playing some xbox live?

I live in Louisville and it's great, I don't think I could live anywhere else in this state.
Louisville is a great city. It's just ridiculous to think it's the only city that matters in KY. All of Central KY is pretty much on the same level. Louisvile is just a bigger Lexington (Much better downtown).

Tons of money throughout the whole Central KY area & Louisville would be floundering without the economies of the other cities. That's why it has a business partnership with Lexington right now.

The fact that people such as you feel they have some right to quash them is just as terrible. Look in the mirror.

To anyone who hasn't been down to Appalachia and calling everyone down there a bunch of racists, have you been there? Do you know anyone from Appalachia? The nicest people I've ever met have been from Hazard, Kentucky.

There's something special about Eastern Kentucky. Many of the families that live in Eastern Kentucky have been there for hundreds of years, mine included. And while I didn't grow up in Hazard, but a little north of Lexington, we visited numerous times as I was growing up, there's just something about that place.

It has it's own culture and way of life. I know there are going to be countless on here saying, "Yea they have a culture of racism and a way of life that promotes racism!" Again I'll just say this, who do you know from Eastern Kentucky? You're going to judge an entire group of people off the actions of around 10 or so people?

How is your judgment of everyone from Kentucky any different if people judge you because where you're from?

Stay the hell away from Kentucky?
You have to be kidding me....
