Adam Carolla Rails Against Occupy ‘Ass Douches’ In Rant: ‘F**king Self-Entitled Monsters’

So, what was it that inspired the Occupy movement? Was it a growing realization that the privileged had been gaming the system, making transition between social classes nearly impossible? Was it annoyance at a corrupt collusion between politicians and banks, one that kept those responsible for ruining our economy for future generations out of prison? Or was it simply a feeling that, were no one to speak up, things would continue to get worse? Well, according to Adam Carolla, the blame lies squarely on one sinister culprit; participation medals. In a lengthy rant on his hugely popular podcast, Carolla explained just how growing up in a culture of entitlement had created a generation of, as he sees it, “ass douches.”

According to Carolla, the Occupiers weren’t born out of a hatred for corruption, greed, or white collar crime, but, rather, years of being told that they deserve a medal no matter what. He explained his Incredibles-esque view thusly:

Adam Corolla: “We’ve created a bunch of fucking self-entitled monsters. And this has become the pursuit of my life where people are so far out of it in what they expect and what they think realistic is and what the set of rules that pertains to them versus the other guys- Because that’s what the bottom line is. ‘I want my Most Valuable Player trophy.’ ‘Well, you’re the slowest, fattest guy on the team.’ Why should he get one and I don’t?’ ‘Because he busts his ass and he runs a 4.4 40. That’s why he gets one.’ ‘Well, this is bullshit.’

And then everyone gets involved and everyone gives everyone a participation trophy and then everyone feels good about themselves but it’s not based on anything. You should feel good about yourself because of your accomplishments. Not because someone yelled at you to feel good about yourself and you got a fake fucking piece of plastic that was sprayed gold and had your name on a plaque at the bottom. And, when these people become adults and enter the work place”

Carolla argued that we’ve been raising our children this way for 25 years and now “we’re getting the first wave of these douche bags.” It’s an interesting theory although it doesn’t entirely explain the Occupiers that weren’t born in the 80s but are instead in their 80s.

Over at Breitbart.tv, they characterized this rant as being the only one to truly “capture” how their readers feel about the protest movements and I think they’re probably right. There’s a reason Carolla’s show does so well and I think this is probably exactly how many folks view the movement; as a bunch of douche bags.

Still, the Occupiers shouldn’t feel too bad. He called them “ass douches” and, after all, isn’t their whole goal to flush out some bad crap that’s clogging a system. Remember, douche bags are hygienic products.

I love Adam Carolla and agree with almost everything he said here.

This is how I feel about the late 'clicktivism' Gen-Y Occupy participants. Not the early ones who were legitimately in it to voice discern at the criminals of Wall St.

Over 25: Yup, that's pretty accurate.
Under 25: Nuh uh, he's a stupid head! MOOOOOOOOOOOM!

I Completely agree with everything he said.
If people are mad that they don't have a job, maybe instead of looking to find one, they can camp out in a park for 2 months. Yeah! great idea!

I listen to his podcast and I remember the rant. It doesn't really seem controversial to me honestly. But remember Carolla admits to never reading almost like a badge of honor. I like the dude, but I don't take his stuff too seriously.

Reminds me of this billboard I saw recently. It had a bunch of phrases like "tax the rich" and "its not fair" and next to it in big letters it said "THOU SHALT NOT COVET -GOD"

EDIT: I haven't followed OWS much but the impression I've gotten hasn't been people screaming "we want ours!"

Can't stop laughing.

There's few things I agree with more than Mr. Incredible's rant about entitlement, and it's spectacularly amazing to see Carolla miss the point of it entirely, like, WHOOOOSH.

It's like Dave Sim conflating Emotion over Reason with Gender Politics. Taking one thing that makes sense and then just pasting it on top of whatever you happen to be fed up with.

Not that Carolla was ever one of our Nation's greatest thinkers but, yeah. No.

His "argument" (still laughing) falls apart completely when you see the spectrum of ages in the movement. And all those Veterans supporting them? A bunch of lazy mopes?

Sure thing, Adam.

What a crock of shit. Does he have his head buried in the sand, and is he ignoring the fact that a huge number of the protestors ARE successful, have their own businesses, are highly educated or over 30? Honestly these kind of people seem so far removed.

They are so out of touch with reality, essentially making stuff up a huge chunk of the time and ignoring the truth, hell, ignoring the very reasoning the people protesting are actually giving.

Unreal. Can't believe so many people have such an ignorant and misinformed view of such things. But I suppose that's what happens when you have a Fox News generation bred on a constant barrage of agenda filled sensatialist right wing propaganda.

Adam Carolla is seriously an intellectual midget when it comes to anything politics related. Couldn't give less of a shit about what he thinks of the Occupy movement. This coming from someone who, well, used to listen to his podcast and loved him on Loveline way back in the day. He should stick to bitching about traffic lights, ranchera music and the latest episode of The View.

Carolla is a hack and an idiot. He might be right once in awhile but he shouldn't get any attention for his views on anything other than masturbation and shitty movies (the only two things I would say he is an expert in).

I used to like his podcast but he just kept repeating the same shit over and over again and his political views are retarded.

Adam Carolla's political rants are so unbearable. Reason I bailed on his podcast. And I enjoy most of his pop-culture rants. But when it comes to political rants he's like a half-wit Dennis Miller.

There are hypocrites in every group or ideology. Doesn't mean there aren't people who did legitimately work their asses off and still can't find jobs because of a recession created by the super rich.

While I don't think many people in the occupy movement have a clue what the should be protesting about, it doesn't take away from the fundamental problem that bankers should not be able to:
1. Loan shark hundreds of thousands of people into things they cannot afford. Whether it be sub-prime mortgages or entire countries like Greece or Italy.
2. Bundle trillions of toxic assets into "AAA" funds.
3. Bet against said fund.
4. Then get away free under trillions of dollars in socialism transferring everyone's wealth into the bankers that fucked up the system.

Engineers cannot lie about shitty bridge construction and then collect insurance when it fails and people die. Doctors cannot sell snake oil. Banks cannot loan money that cannot be paid back without consequences.

And you base this on what exactly? I'm over 25 and Adam is ranting about something completely irrelevant.

I agree. Dude almost relishes in the fact that he's uneducated. Funny guy, though.

His latest rant was over a pumpkin pie with slices of plums. Hilarious.

He doesn't even know why they're protesting in the first place. So there's no reason to respond to it.

To the rest of you who agree with him, get yourself educated. You're on the wrong side of history.

That doesn't make much sense given the wide range of ages of the Occupy members but then I don't expect much sense from comedians anyway.

Most of them have jobs. The protest isn't against not being able to be employed (though it is its own problem in the US), but that the richest 1% have cheated or schemed their way into their money and are using their political power to widen the gap between themselves and the 99% below them. Anyone trying to deny this wealth inequity can only be explained as being blinded by generic, knee-jerk rage at protests.

This doesn't make much sense considering the main argument of OWS isn't "legitimately successful people are too successful, its not fair"

I'm very impressed by your meticulous data collection of every post and their respective opinion on this issue. Find and combing through that level of data must have been excruciating. It seems that you've definitely found some level of correlation to your theory. I cannot wait to read more on this thesis. Bravo.

Saying "hurr hurr get a job u bums" is just really embarrassing and makes you look stupid and uninformed.

Anyway, like any thread of fierce debate over a whole lot of nothing, this is a classic case of confirmation bias. Whatever people believe coming into this thread they'll only see and select whatever examples there are to support their belief while simultaneously ignoring conflicting evidence, just like Corolla.

A whole lot of nothing?

This. I'm starting to think its not the majority of protestors that don't know why they are protesting (some clearly don't), no, that's just what Right Wing propaganda wants you to believe and people are regurgitating like puppets. In actuality, it seems more like its the majority of people against the movement that don't know why people are protesting.

Case in point being Adam's rant in the OP. he clearly does not have a clue. Even reading this thread. People think its about not being able to get jobs? Lol. It's so much more than that, that facet is literally a tiny cherry off a massive cake.
