Oh wow, yes. I can't beleive it took twenty-five pages for somebody to point this out, LOL.

hey look a fanboy. TLS is better than Xenoblade and Pandora's Tower is better than Xenoblade.

come at me bro.

No american VAs confirmed. So the game's being delayed till next year for marketing purposes confirmed. Lol.
Sounds like you're a fanboy too, fellow.

What makes Pandora's Tower so great? I can't wait for TLS (Final Fantasy x Mass Effect ftw, I don't really care that it's not an expansive open world JRPG like Xenoblade, the combat seems awesome too) but that just looked like a derivative Devil May Cry-esque game. Like, on the level of that Rygar thing, except with some neat mechanics.

And who cares about sales? Everyone knows it will push few copies, but those who care can get it. Just call it the Wii's Panzer Dragoon Saga and be done with it. Win for all.

I think the people who imported Xenoblade and won't be buying it again will still be online talking the game up with people now that a new crop of players will have access to it.
That's a really good point. If there's any potential non-importers to be reached, they'll be reached through this effort.

Preordered 2 copies~

Frankly I'm surprised but happy that this is actually happening. I had just figured the time had long passed. :)

Yeah the guys at GS seemed surprised that it was in there to preorder, lol.

While that's true, I mean, the same thing happens for people who import games from Japan. There's a small segment of GAF that would import.. say.. Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and have a good discussion thread on it during its Japanese release. That doesn't really hinder discussion when it is released elsewhere (and in some cases, these people will come back in and talk it up with new players).

The difference is that the English audience is now split between importers/domestic buyers... rather than the usual crowd of importers who either speak Japanese, or pretend to (and these people still might be interested to see how the English version turned out, or what western players think of the game.)

It's undoubtedly more of a cannibalized sale/word of mouth disucssion than the usual Japanese import cycle, which is protected by the language barrier..... It's probably a small cannibalization this time, but this IS a niche title anyway....

I don't think that's necessarily the case. In a way this is little different from a Beta release (except the beta is self-selected for those willing to jump through hoops and pay extra cash). The negligible fact that the hardcore have already played the game won't stop them talking about it.

Have most US places reviewed the game? That seemed to get a ton of word out there for the EU release.

I mean, I'm not expecting this to even break 10k. But with some word of mouth, it could definitely sell out of the initial shipment.

Yeah, the gameplay is a bit stagnant but its story and atmosphere is completely absorbing. It really feels like a different game when you're the one playing it for the first time. It's definitely a good game as far as that's concerned, but as you said, gameplay leaves a bit to be desired. JRPGs tend to have predictable plots once you play enough, but i'm happy to say Pandora's Tower was unpredictable. If you like story, you'll like the game. It's definitely a love-or-hate title, with little leeway.

Holy shit, what are the odds. I literally had this in my hands at a German Toys R Us this evening!

I put it back as I'd planned to buy it after Skyward Sword

Man, glad I waited and of course, day fucking one!

Still not in GameStop Canada's system :(

I might not hold my breath for that. Could happen. But your sold bet is to order from Nintendo.ca's online store after December 19th. If Gamestop Canada is going to have this title at all, it will be by that date, and by then you'll know if the Nintendo online store is your best bet.

I wouldn't worry about that. Back up the SD card and if you're really worried, use BootMii to backup your Nand. After that it's nearly impossible to "mess anything up". The whole process is pretty harmless.

Cool, thanks. I'm an idiot when it comes to stuff like this, so the whole thing makes me nervous but it sounds like it should go okay.

The ending sucked guys. Time to let the Americans know before shit goes down. Americans don't take kindly to bad endings.

So there's a lot of lore/story/exploration stuff to it like an actual JRPG? NPCs, shops, choosing what to do next, stuff like that? Cos I know they called it an RPG but it just seemed like an action game in all the trailers, nothing hinted at there being more to it.

Holy crap and I was just looking into modding my wii to play this. Looks like I won't have to. Will preorder next time I'm in GameStop ;)

Poor RPGCrazied... :(

I even got my copy before he did and I placed my order later.

Xenoblade is like.....a squaresoft Game.
Hmmm... I get the feeling that some who may not have played it before will think of it like that. The story isn't very insipid where I want to hit my head against a desk repeatedly, and the gameplay is alright save for a few balancing issues and a few issues I had with the quests. It's a solid game, and very gorgeous to look at. Seriously, some of the vistas are just... so... breathtaking. You think they look good in screenshots? Look at them on your TV... omg. The art direction in this game is utterly spectacular.

I'm very happy that next year is shaping up to be a great year for RPGs. For example, you guys are getting Tales of Graces F, finally, and I absolutely adored that game.

Let's not start the frenzy just yet... but I wonder if this will be quite a collectors item someday?

Based on the fact that they're accepting pre-orders in December, and the game is being released in April, I have no doubt that they're print enough for demand, but for those who snooze during the next few months of time might not have a chance to find this cheaply in the years ahead.....?

RPGCrazied, I remember his meltdowns. He might buy another one.

Yep, the Wii's Panzer Dragoon Saga. Believe!

The thing that I've really appreciated about the game is that it felt like a jRPG with a LOT of the fat cut off. Almost all the tedium that you normally have with a game like this was gone. Fast travel basically anywhere you've been at any time. Doing a side mission? Once it's done, it's DONE; no need to return to the guy who sent you on it. Save points? Gone. Don't want to battle? For the most part, you don't have to. Need to do a mission at night? Set the time.

I wrote it in the other thread, but while I think both XB and FF XIII tried to basically distill the jRPG formula into its elements, but XB was wildly more successful. Granted I'm still only maybe 1/3 of the way through the game, but from what I've heard, it gets even better.

Can you order one for me?
Do you live in Santiago?

I imported mine from zavvi back in August, cost me around 43k and took a month and 5 days to get here but it was worth it. All Im saying is you should probably just import now, also I'm sure the usual videogame stores in Chile will get the game anyway, Gamestop exclusive or not.

Can't. Sorry, I'm from Concepción.

There are several mail-forwarding systems such as CasillaExpress, which is what I use. Essentially you have an item shipped to a company's address in the US and they forward it to you through their own mail system. I've gotten stuff from Club Nintendo this way so I PRESUME Nintendo Store works as well.

I believe Chilexpress also does this, but I haven't tried.

Did Electroplankton end up being considered as a collector's item since it was sold in a similar way?

Yeah it's got a little premium on the price... And it's not an RPGS, which tend to hold value down the line.

Idk if FFXIII tried that but Xenoblade and The Last Story seem to have tried that + to advance the genre forward in some ways and are both successful in different ways. TLS did try the XIII route, being more linear, cutting the overworld stuff, but it seems to have gotten it right. One of the Iwata Asks had both Mistwalker and Monolith Soft designers talking about that stuff I think... It's cool how they both had some of the same ideas, like the battle systems, but such vast differences in other aspects.

Getting The Last Story next year certainly helps ease the pain of knowing Dragon Quest X became an MMORPG, even if it's such a different take on JRPGs.

Here's the funny part... it was cheaper for me to import a game from the UK than it would be to buy a domestic copy. :P

I think after conversion to Canadian rates, I paid $45 for Xenoblade. This local version is gonna be $50 plus shipping :P

Edit: .....also I don't know how anyone could hate this -_- Not so much an argument with you as it is a message to others in this thread: this is a good jRPG!

When I bought it only the LE was available which was like 90$ with shipping...

As to why I hated it, I already posted a long post in another thread(steam thread) a while ago about it.

Short version : too many shitty fetch quests (20 out of the 500+ in the game gives you something worthile); items to fetch are annoying to get (item only spawned under specific wheater, day/night, rare monsters or rare drops); battle system became boring halfway through (you more ore less circle the enemies using all your moves that exploit their sides over and over again); My inventory was always filled with gems and garbage; The gem furnace was a cheap and poorly done Star Ocean IC knock off; Partners' AI is dumb and you can't customize their behaviors; they kept adding rules and special Monado skills that the game seldomly forced you to use; finding npcs for quest is a pain the ass as they are only available in a specific part of the day; areas to explore are pretty but also barren (you will rarely find something worthwhile) and Shulk is bloody annoying (oh no I don't know If can keep going anymore! Every 2 cutscenes he repeats this past the halfway wark).

I could go on and on as to why I hated it but I've already done it in detail in another post...

If SE had done a game like that with vast empty areas to explore filled with MMOs like quests people here would have crucified them.

I just hope they don't run out of copies soon =P

So you hated it for having 100% optional content you could have skipped? Neat...

The fetch quests are just extra XP while I'm out exploring the beautiful areas anyway to me.

They don't try (and so fail) to be anything else. Especially since you don't have to return them. Explore, find NPC, get quest, explore, quest complete!

There were plenty more involved quests that had their plot strings and you did have to return to the NPCs and get more involved too. Also optional though!

I didn't find the characters and AI offensive myself, they seemed to use the right skills, and the special chains where you choose their actions happen often.

I only didn't like that even though you can control people other than Shulk if you want, and they're lots of fun, the optimal way is to control him most of the time.

The beauty of the areas was its own reward. That said there were cool things to find like optional mini bosses and the like. JRPGs don't tend to have much beyond exploring.

Like, they don't have puzzles and stuff ike that like Zelda games. You're just passing through areas to complete your journey and goals. I like it that way. I hate mazes too.

The best part of the game. In fact, I might go boot up the old Wii and DiCaprio stroll through my completed colony.
Completed colony? I'm only a few hours in, but is there a Dark Cloud/Suikoden-eque section where you rebuild a town? If so, I must immediately return to this game.
