Ok here's another daring question:

Skyward sword or xenoblade?

HOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO

Play up to Satori Marsh in Xenoblade. The music at night is absolutely amazing. It is my favorite environment in the entire game. Then play Skyward Sword and then come back to the Marsh!

I still need to finish Xenoblade. I think I'll play some more tonight after some work!

I'm going to be dumb and support Monolith here with a second copy of the game in case the Wii U NA can't play Wii EU games (I'm assuming it won't).

Difficulty. Doing a ton of side quests early can get you very overleveled for a lot of the game.
That's true, but you need to be "overleveled" to do the hard late game sidequests, let alone to kill the elite four.

I'm not saying that the best armor in the game during the prologue is swimsuits, but it is.
The game is really weird in that regard. The best armor for fighters and even tanks (Dunban) is very light or no armor at all, whereas the best armor for support characters is plate armor (especially unique sets like Eclipse). Makes perfect sense if you think about it, but it's the complete opposite of any other RPG I've ever seen.

Well eventually the best armour in the game is this ugly ass set of medium armour.

Besides the final character whose best armour is all about exposing ass.

Stuff like the oil armors really made me crack up.

Skyward Sword > Xenoblade

I really don't like the sidequests or battle system in Xenoblade but I love everything else.

The sidequests and battle system are where you spend almost all your time. I admit the sidequests are mostly fetch-quest or find this person and they can get very repetitive but I really liked the battle system.

I'm PAL but would really like to import a copy to show them they are doing the right thing by releasing this game. Anyone know how I could go about this? I'm not sure either GS or Nintendo would ship to NZ.
Nintendo won't, Gamestop do. For New Zealand it is $30 (and if its like the UK route it is tracked UPS) so if possible find some other stuff you would like to order but do bear in mind any local tax laws (you don't want a nasty surprise of a large tax bill).

I hate my Wii, I really, really do.
So do I! Artifacting sucks and it's a pain in the ass games are tied to the system the way they are.

... But I love that this is coming out, SS just came out, and other stuff like Rhythm Heaven should be fantastic. I'll just need to send it in for repairs eventually.
And yes I know "hate my Wii" is a joke, but it's technically true for me.

lol @ people happy they didn't import. You were a part of the problem, re: OpRainfall!!! lol

But still... glad we all get the game.

The first thing I did after finishing SS was return to Xenoblade.
SS is fantastic, but Xenoblade is my GOTY.

Same here, I was at 35 hours into Xenoblade, SS came out, finished SS within a week. Now let's get back to some Xenoblade goodness! :D

xenoblade was one of those once in a lifetime gaming experiences when you get fully sucked into the game's world

-where every spare minute you have is spent exploring the immense world. you forget the fact you have a life and a 50 hour per week job to attend to. fuck that, i gotta explore more of bionis! I honestly did not sleep for two weeks, because I was fucking addicted

-where you can't fucking wait for the next cutscene/story plot twist

-where you actively run towards enemies, not to gain XP, but because the battle system is absolutely fun as hell and makes you feel like you can take on anything

its that kind of game

Thanks for that. We can import up to a pretty large amount without having to pay GST so I'm good there. Unfortunately that link just redirects me to the home page of GS but I'll try find the page manually. I tried to check before but could only find US rates.

Can I preorder this in-store? I prefer purchasing games in person, but I won't be near a Gamestop for the week after it releases and I don't want to worry about possible shortages.

I'm still pretty sure Gamestop Canada(EBGames they also call it up here still, not sure why hehe) will eventually get this also, especially since the game is bilingual and they are keeping the same dubs(French and English) so it will be no problem in Quebec...rarely does a game come out in North America and doesn't include Canada(obviously lol)... will wait till the 19th and if it's still not in their system,I'll pre-order from Nintendo.

My problem with the battle system is that I always felt like I was fighting it because I couldn't depend on the a.i to do what I wanted. None of the battles are all that difficult and the only real issues that arise come from the fact I can't depend on the a.i. to heal when I want it to. This makes me play as the medic and just hope my partners aren't idiots. It's only been an issue for two fights so far since most battles can just be slept through. I'm sure the optional bosses are an exception and I know there are some optimum character setups that trash just about everything without the need to heal at all. For my first run through, I'm just playing it through my way.

That said I still prefer it to Infinite Undiscovery, FFXIII, FFXII, and all the other single character controlled rpgs of late. I'm not saying it's a huge problem I'm just saying it isn't a battle system that I've fallen in love with.

Xenoblade is still the best console rpg I've played this gen without a doubt. I'll probably end up liking the Last Story more though. I am worried about that battle system as well but I'm hoping the environmental stuff can actually fix the problems I have with these new hands off battle systems.

Hmm... well, I was going to import this to play over Christmas break, but I suppose I'll be waiting now.

I assume there was no option for Japanese voices w/ English subs in the Euro version?

Couple of neat things. Soraya Saga (Tetsuya Takahashi's wife) tweeted

NOE have a surprise* (old) Iwata asks up of In Conversation with Takahashi & Sakaguchi. Its more about Squaresoft and game development but should be a neat read anyway. I liked this bit:
Sakaguchi:
You’re right. But up to FF III, we worked with a really gifted foreign programmer who didn’t speak Japanese or really understand RPGs. This called for a specific kind of supervision. So I’d take him out for a steak every day and... (laughs)

*-Makes me wonder how many other potentially amazing Iwata asks I've missed.

Its help > Does GameStop ship internationally? > learn more about international shipping then scroll down the page.

If dumb A.I. is the problem, wouldn't something like FFXII's gambit system be the solution? Other than better A.I. of course...

Huh... wonder if NoA will leave those in or strip them out, because they're rat bastards.
Weren't there some technical issues introduced with the Japanese VA put in? If that's the case I won't mind that much if they're taken out, plus it can be a reason importers can trumpet their version (and for people here to still wait).

Just wondering, what made Xenoblade such a step up in quality for MonolithSoft after Disaster? Were there any major changes in the company? Or was it just a result of better funding and development time?
