If it'll be available at Nintendo.com, do we get some special for preordering there like back in the day? Strategy guide, soundtrack or something maybe?

So Lost Odyssey, a much inferior game, will sell 10x as much in America? I know it's on the 360 and Wii buyers don't seem to be flocking to jRPGs but c'mon, really? If that ends up being true I don't really know what to say other than :/.

Lost Odyssey is a good game and, as someone noted, marketed very well. However, I don't think he's correct in assuming this is going to die. In fact, that sounds pretty stupid. If you're comparing it to Final Fantasy or Lost Odyssey, then sure, maybe. But Nintendo has chosen to take a different approach to it.

Its possible...they're even trying to cater to the group that tried to force them into bringing the game here by putting operation rainfall in the trailer tags.

Yeah its a stretch, but theres still a chance they might put some effort into it.

Tales of Vesperia is from an established IP, it is twice the better game and sold less than half the copies. It all depends on the marketing.

I dunno about twice the better game...thats kinda debatable. The whole being immortal and the mini-stories to go along with it (not to mention the soundtrack) and a well done turn based battle system that kept you on your toes put the game ahead of Vesperia for me.

I'll support this. I have such a massive JRPG backlog ;___;

I don't like GS for their policies, but haven't really had any major problems whenever I've shopped there.

It's pretty nice that they're kind of half-publishing this. This isn't the first time they've done this (I guess it was technically EB Games prior to the merger or buyout or whatever). EB published Wizardry VIII back in 2001, when no other publisher would. I mean, I can't hate them.

Ok, impressed.

Why wouldn't you want to buy from Gamespot to support this? I avoid them like any informed gamer should, but for this I will make an exception. Both for the sake of Xenoblade itself and to support Gamestop with this decision, showing publishers that they missed out and that we do want games like this here.

I don't think GameStop is doing anything other than carrying the game in their stores, Nintendo is still fully publishing the title.

Reminds me of the days when EB was putting reserves on imports of the EU version of Shenmue 2 for the Dreamcast that came with a disc converter. I don't know much of Xenoblade and just know that its a rpg but any good reason I should preorder this game?

My Wii is US and I'd much prefer to get the US version usually so I can play the games, as well as go online officially.

You do realise that hacking your Wii does in no way prevent you from going online, right? The Wii just simply isn't rigged for network connections to be able to check firmware*.

I would definitely recommend that you take 10 minutes to hack the system and play the game now, as opposed to waiting 5 more months. The game is worth it. If price is an issue, you can always import from the UK instead (since you're planning to import anyway it shouldn't be an issue).

*As long as you run your online games straight off the disc as opposed to a USB launcher, they definitely cannot tell your system is hacked. I'm pretty sure they can't tell if you play from a USB launcher either though I personally always from the disc just to be safe.

If you have any desire to ever play it, you better preorder. Since it's only being sold at Gamestop and Nintendo's website, it probably isn't going to have a very large printing. It'll probably be hard to find pretty soon after launch.

You are giving more money to Nintendo if you buy directly from them :p

You should pre-order this game because the NTSC-U version will be worth a mint a year from now. Consider it an investment, if nothing else.

Good enough for my ass to preorder then, thanks!

Yeah, I'll be ordering an extra copy to flip in a year or two. Whenever I decide to get a WiiU.

Definitely pre-ordering this on Wednesday at my GameStop, where they, knowing my taste, will probably ask me straight away if I'm there to pre-order Xenoblade.

So NoA basically farted in the general direction of fans who were begging for this game forever with terrible non-committal PR, then after everyone with more than a passing interest has modded their Wii and imported the game and the hype has died down they suddenly decide to stealth announce it as a weird retailer exclusive? What a clusterfuck. At least it'll see the light of day though.

I never thought about that...two preorders it is. Best part is, it'll help everyone all around :P

I had more than a passing interest and still havent modded my Wii... I just didnt want to import a title that should have been released in North America in the first place. That and I still had the optimistic train of thought that it would come eventually.

I'd say it was timing more than anything. That and the fact that, you know, creator of Final Fantasy. Maybe more realistic graphics played a role. People are fickle.

Ditto.

I do question those who modded their Wiis to play this and are now upset.

Someone please complete this for me by telling me Reggie is fired, first thing I will do is buy a Wii.

This assumes that Reggie had nothing to do with this finally coming over, which I doubt.

Shit like this is why I laugh every time I think about Vesperia Games on Demand tanking the resell market, because all people start viewing low-print JRPGs as eBay opportunities instead of games.

This will be the first JRPG I've played since TWEWY.

Well, Pokemon, but that's different.

I know there have been a fair number of importers, but I would take care not to overestimate how many people the bolded includes.

Well, before this revelation, the chances of the game coming stateside were pretty slim. Those who really wanted it hand to go through some long workaround just to play it. I can see where they're coming from.

If Nintendo had a competent DD service they could have localized the european version and offered it stateside ages ago.

Huh.

How much life is left for the Wii? One more year, tops?

This is going to be Nintendo's Panzer Dragoon Saga. I guess I should preorder.

I forgive Nintendo because it is bringing the game over, but I won't forget what happend. Quite frankly, the game still should have come out this year when we really needed something to play before Skyward Sword and Kirby. if the Wii U is as easy to mod as the Wii was, then I won't hesitate to do it.

All these things do make LO a good game ...unfortunately the story's nosedive on the 2nd disc and onward killed the game for me T___T

Judging by the length of this thread alone, it's crazy that Nintendo didn't put it out sooner in the US. Just think of all the sales they'll loose now that people have imported copies from Europe and all that. Hopefully it'll sell decently enough.

Anyway, congrats America for finally getting one of the best RPGs this generation.

I don't forgive them yet. The Last Story is still the most important game of the trio to me and I'm still really pissed about Fatal Frame, Disaster and Another Code R. The rest of the titles I can understand them passing up although I still don't like it.

Them giving in on Xenoblade is still a great first step though.

Either way I'm importing The Last Story and Pandora's Tower regardless. I'm perfectly willing to double dip on TLS. I may keep it or give it to my brother like I'm going to do for Xenoblade.

I honestly think we'll get Last Story regardless of Rainfall. Sakaguchi is a serious Ameircaphile, and the game drew some inspiration from Gears of all places. I think Last Story is more likely to appeal to 'American' audiences, so it's only a matter of time.

Could be wrong, of course

yeah i think we'll get pandora's tower and last story the same way (let noe do all the work).

at the very least, i think we'll get the last story. there should be five or six first-party titles to play the console out before the wii u launches. i can't imagine they'll just leave it completely wide open between april and september-november.

it is kinda weird that nintendo saves these rpgs for the end of the generation. they've done it since the snes. smrpg, paper mario, baten kaitos origins, and now xenoblade.

I wouldn't be surprised if NoA and Gamestop didn't have some kind of 'deal' for all three because Nintendo knows all they have to do is change the format and get it rated by the ESRB.

Last Story probably has enough name power that with decent marketing (and not doing the retailer exclusive thing) they could get pretty good sales out of it. Pandora's Tower I see being another "see how it does in Europe" though, not unless Xenoblade and The Last Story do well enough to make them just jump in.

I'm intrigued in this game, but I haven't really played a serious JRPG before. I think I need to watch part of a Let's Play before deciding if it's for me. Then again, some of my best gaming memories are from times I took a chance on a new genre and ended up loving it.

I generally detest all JRPGs that come out these days, save Kingdom Hearts which is kind of its own thing and I still hate the story on those just like the fluff, but the couple of hours I got to play of Xenoblade were really fun. The combat engine's a lot of fun, and the worlds look great. I also found the overall atmosphere very good.

I'm pre-ordering from Nintendo.com and have it mail-forwarded because GameStop's shipping costs are plain ridiculous. $59.99 for shipping to Chile, GS? Really? And no cheaper options? PlayAsia with FedEx is cheaper than that!

I would tend to agree, they'll all three get at least limited releases. Nintendo needs titles to fill out 2012, not to mention the "goodwill" it shows towards core gamers that they're trying to woo back in for Wii U.

This. My issues with NoA won't be over until The Last Story comes out. I know some that have played both say Xenoblade is the better game but out of two The Last Story is the one I was looking forward to the most. I'm still looking forward to that more. Pandora's Tower I'll buy if it comes out but not going to be to disappointed if it doesn't show. I waited to see what would happen at the end of the year and I'm glad I did. I don't mind waiting now to see what happens with The Last Story and and Pandora.

Just what I wanted to hear :) Thanks. I'll probably give this game a shot over next summer.
