Zelda Skyward Sword Spoiler Thread: Retelling the Legend without the black bars

To be fair he's only working with what was given to him. He's dubbing the text as it comes in, which is slooooow in SS. If the game is designed around it, it w/could be more natural.

who cares about the text. he reads the sick with anger line mostly when ghirahim had disappeared. the body language is when he's saying each word, and the guy says it too slow and too loud.

if you have the time to put in your favorite danny elfman tune, then you have time to actually pay attention to the animation.

I don't like the way he did sick with angerrrrrrrrrrrr either, I just felt the entire time through he was going slow and overdramatic to not outpace the text showing up so it wouldn't leave a big gap of silence.

I still don't know if I even went VA in zelda, I still support the hylian for now.

Sure, if this was an american game, I'd be down for some voice acting. That can come off natural, because either the lines were matched up with the scenes or vice versa.

When it's a japanese game though, there's often a disconnect in the dub, because they have to change the structure of the sentence so that the english line will fit with the scene. That's not to say it hasn't worked somewhat well in the past (I'm quite fond of Valkyria Chronicles) but there is ALWAYS something lost in the mix.

But really, I don't care. I trust Nintendo to make a good decision in that area, and if it really is awful, I doubt they'll spring for it.

EDIT: Also, not super fond of the gibberish idea. Didn't love it in Okami, doubt I'll love it in Zelda.

Think Shadow of the Colossus, not Okami or Animal Crossing.

At the end of the day, I'm still reading text. I know it adds tone and inflection, but still. I just don't see it as vital. But like I said, I don't care. They can add it if they want.

Man you guys are critiquing the clip as if it was completely professional and official. It's just a fandub. For what resources he has and how he interprets it, I think he does a fine job.

So has this been discussed already? The lanayra robots remind me visually of midna - the head gear at least.

Wasn't the story of the twilight realm people that they used to rule the land that became hyrule, but tried to grab the triforce and the goddess punished them by sealing them in another realm?

There seems to be quite a bit of crossover between these two stories to me. The twili people under demise waged war against Hylia and the humans. They lost and were sealed away. Demise eventually reincarnating as Gannon would sure make sense for why Zant was trying to resurrect his master.

When the twili were sealed away, their robots and artifacts were left behind, but the seat of their kingdom, lanayru, was turned into a dessert and gradually eroded.

Anyone else find it depressing that Nintendo has such a cool mythos and characters (like Happy Mask Salesman, Fierce Diety, Majora, etc) and they never do anything of substance with them, even Gannon isn't really made three dimensional and clever with dialogue. A TRUE successor to MM with that kind of expert writing and strong characters, as well as great gamelay changes would be awesome.

The Zelda mythos is great, it's just that Nintendo took an arrow in the knee when given the opportunity to present it. But I digress, that's why I try to avoid story/spoiler threads to avoid these types of tangents.

I'm afraid all that mythos wouldn't seem as grand with more exposition.

(I liked the MGS mythos before MGS4 fucked it all up)

Well I can say part of my reason for liking Majora so much is because I don't know much of anything about him/her. There's a mystery to it that I think should be left as is. Besides if they came back to those characters it probably wouldn't end up as great as you'd hope.

Maybe so, but even still they could at the very least make more of an effort to highlight aspects the majority of fans love. With strong characters, stories, and gameplay. But maybe that's just me.

Metroid style "journal" exposition could work. But I'm afraid Nintendo wants to keep Zeldas as approachable as possible.

Or even MP-style/HL2-style/Bioshock-style environment story could work (with non-linear quests you can do to understand more if you want), and still be every bit as approachable maybe even more so. Depending on the game structure, especially on the Upad.

For me all this video tells me is that voice acting in Zelda definitely works and add something if done right. Not really with THAT voice, but it works.

So get to it, Nintendo.

Exactly, I would be disappointed if the next Zelda would have that level of voice acting. BUT, considering this is a fandub, it definitely gave a different feel to that cutscene. Using VA would have added something to this game.

I never felt this way about any other Zelda before it, but I don't know, it just works here.

Was anybody else hoping that Impa from SS was the Impa in OOT due to traveling through one of the time gates in SS into the far future?

It would almost make perfect sense if they set it up that way. That the only existing member from a dead race(Impa in OOT) came from thousands of years in the past(Impa in SS). Impa in OOT could even pass as an older version of Impa from SS. Also, I haven't seen it confirmed anywhere, but the Goddess's harp in SS is the one that Sheik ends up using, right? If so that would make sense for Impa from SS to deliver it through time to the Zelda from OOT. I just think it would be cool for a single character to have existed in multiple chapters of the LoZ story.

Reposted from the main thread because it's more appropriate here(and nobody replied).

I wasn't hoping for it because the game needs its unique contributions

and the Sheikah are against abusing the powers of the Triforce, time-travel, and such

but it'd be nice to believe that Sheik's harp is the Goddess Harp, and that, even while hiding, Sheik was performing her duty as the Goddess

I'm pretty sure Aonuma already said it was the same harp. It would make sense for it to be the same one. It probably gets passed down through the generations.
That's nice he might've confirmed it. The cross-promotion of the Ocarina and the harp on the OoT 3D box makes slightly more sense now (aside from Sheik's own significance).

I just beat the game and found out a lot of my Zelda theories turned out to be correct!!!!

Reincarnation:

I predicted this numerous times, including adding in the fact that the characters could be reincarnations of gods. Ganondorf is more or less a reincarnation of Demise and the Link in each age is a reincarnation of the hero's spirit. I personally think Link is an incarnation of the goddess Farore and Nintendo will reveal that later on. Zelda is a reincarnation of the goddess Hylia but the ones after her are just blood related. For some reason I don't think the Ocarina of Time Link is a direct reincarnation of the one from Skyward Sword, I'm not sure why I feel that way though.

Location of Triforce and facts about Skyloft:

Guessed that Skyloft may contain hidden dungeons and houses the Triforce. I also guessed that part of Skyloft may descend to the ground.

Other facts:

Final boss:I pretty much knew that it wouldn't be Girahim but I didn't expect the final boss to have any relation to Ganondorf so I was wrong on that subject.

Link and Zelda get it on and produce the Hyrule royal family.

There were also unfortunately some things I got wrong.

Dark Interlopers

Boy was I wrong about this. I still feel however that they would have been more interesting than basically an earlier version of Ganondorf. He was kind of a lame final boss in some ways and really cool in other ways.

Time Travel

Was definitely not expecting this. I think Link travels about 1000 years into the past using the Gate of Time, it was one of the more interesting parts of the game.

Overworld

Predicted there would be a cohesive overworld with savages living down there, unfortunately wrong. Was also wrong about the fact that there would be a conflict between Skyloft and the people below. Overall the story was much more vanilla than I was expecting.

HOLY SHIT YOU FIGHT AKUMA WITH AN EVIL MASTER SWORD.

God, the character designs in this game are awesome. More of Demise please, I know Ganondorf is kinda supposed to be the same guy but I don't give a fuck.

i think demise is so boring. as you said, it is basically akuma with a sword. i expected him to evolve over the span of the fight.

btw, someone (i think it was anihawk or amirox) had that "the gods were just a highly developed civilisation" theory, but i cant find it. i think there are a lot of indications for that

I hope that's not true, if only because, well, Assassin's Creed is already covering that ground. I prefer EmCee's 'the gods are fucking dicks' theory.

Maybe, I don't really think so. Zelda remembered her past life as a Goddess Hylia and there is a lot of other mystical magical shit in the game, like the three great Goddesses creating the triforce that can grant any wish.

If you believe there are gods in this world you can make the case for them being much tougher than any gods in Hyrule.

Be carefull what you wish for. Seriously. It is tempting to know more about Majora and other sidecharacters, but in the end the mistery surrounding those actually is more interesting than the characters themselves.

Ganon is far cooler. Don't get me wrong, the fight was epic, but I don't care much for the character. What they need to do is have ganon reforge the evil master sword. That would be nifty.

EDIT: Oh god, I don't know if it would have worked timeline wise, but why didn't they give demise the trident that Ganon gets?

I was kind of hoping the sword would transform into a trident for a third portion of the battle, but oh well. I'll take a Dark Master Sword though. That was badass.

Dude, I know. I just edited that into my post before I saw this!

Why do I love these guys so much? I want an Ancient Robot plush.

I personally hate them. Actually, I think all of the tribes are pretty poor designs. The Zora things are ok... Edit: I completely forgot about the Mogma (I don't think that's a good sign), but they are decent. It's just the robots and kikwis that I think could have been much better looking.

Why do the Kikwis have sleeves? It doesn't match them at all.

I wonder if the sword demise has is the exact opposite of the Master Sword. In the game it said the Master Sword can defeat demons so I wonder if the sword Demise has can defeat gods. Would be interesting if Ganon could reforge it in a future game and take the fight to the gods.

I think the Dark Master Sword is the original sword, and Hylia made the Goddess Master Sword with Fi as an artificial being to counter it. The GMS could be a copy of the DMS.

Would be interesting if Ganon could reforge it in a future game and take the fight to the gods.

That... would actually be amazing.

Something I noticed after I did the final rounds again, is that while the game's prologue is drawn on the walls of the Sealed Grounds, they are also there in the past, when the events in the story just happened. Someone was really quick to put that on the wall. :P

The target of Demise's hate was the life of the mortals on the land before Hyrule. He was already the same type of being and powerful enough to fight Hylia (or other gods) but Hylia had the power of the Triforce.

Ganondorf even turned their power on them in Twilight Princess, when he uses one of the Sage's swords to kill them.
