Like I sort of said earlier these pics really make me wonder if one day video game designers will be able to imitate these sorts of artstyles. The art by Mary is particularly awesome.
 
Dang it, my pixiv watchlist is already 640 people, and now it's just going to keep getting worse!

Not necessarily on a technical level (cell shading or whatever) but I would love it if more developers took inspiration from the aesthetics and level of detail depicted by these. These cityscapes in particular.

Fucking goldmine of a thread right here. That Background Art 02 is just too good. These threads always make me wish I could (re)dedicate myself to drawing more.

This is from the artist who did the pic of the two girls in the OP. I never knew who did this when I found it originally, but I've always loved it.
 
Damn, watching this thread remembered me that most of the images over there are awesome but most doesnt reach 1080p resolution to use as wallpapers :(

Just a reminder, that's where the amazing longcat-size Zelda fanart came from.

Word of advice, it can show nsfw stuff: Using saucenao (reverse search image) leads to pixiv results *and* the artist's ID. Cool beans.
 
I had never used pixiv enough before to realise that there was an "over 18" setting to switch.

...it's like an amazing new world has open up right before my eyes.

(as someone who is interested in doing illustration for a job it both inspires and terrifies me how good these all are)
 
Not sure of the authors name, because I can't read Japanese. Maybe Jun? Potentially Net? Someone else can clarify. In any case, I love his/her artwork.



 
Amazing. I wish I'd kept up with drawing when I was younger. I can't wait until game and/or animation tools become advanced enough that worlds like this can be easily realized.

While I have nothing against (Real) Avatar, I want to keep DA stuff out of this thread.

Sorry. If you find Avatar stuff on Pixiv it's all good, but DA is a no no. I guess the OP didn't make that perfectly clear.

I removed the stuff that seemed too western.
 
Images are beautiful, but yeah, that line in the OP "It also helps readability if you limit the width of your images to something manageable" became so worthless so fast it might as well not even have been written.

e: To clarify, I'm not attacking anyone or anything like that, I was just amused how that line was there but still got multiple 2500px wide images per page or whatever. I don't have a problem with it.
