So it seems that 'swap memory cards to swap accounts' thing isn't on the cards (hoho) afterall.

http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/12/sony-vita-psn/

Though a Sony representative told Wired.com at a Vita preview event last week in Manhattan that Vita users will be able to switch accounts by swapping out memory cards, the PlayStation maker has now retracted that statement. It told Wired.com in an email on Thursday that that Vita owners will indeed have to reset their hardware to factory settings, deleting all of their data, in order to sign in with a different PlayStation Network account.

“[The] PSN account is tied to the hardware and the memory card, not just the card,” a different Sony representative said in an e-mail, “which means that if a second person is using your Vita, it’s not just a case of switching out memory cards, it’s clearing out all of your saved data on the Vita itself when you do the factory reset.”

So your task now, DCharlie, is to find out how long a format and data-restore from your PS3/PC takes ;)

If you have two memory cards all you need to do is swap them out and it should work, shouldn't it? I mean all you need to do is keep the data on seperate cards. Format the system with no cards in each time and then when you plug the relevant card in it'd still related to that account? No?

Understand what I'm trying to say?

This is something I dislike with launches. Even the representatives keep on giving contradicting information and nothing seems to be 100% confirmed until one of us gets their hands on the machine.

I'm thinking it's like the PS3 HD

Fucking THIS. And it's especially true with SCE since each division (US, JP, EU) doesn't bother communicate with each other.

I imagine that SCEJ sent Vitas to SCEA & SCEE with a note saying "Figure it out, bitches".

if people are getting the Vita early why are there no videos?

I know we're in that age and everything but seriously if I got a piece of software or hardware early my initial action would not be to make a video about it for others on the internet. I'd like..actually play/use it..

It may work like this:

You bond your Vita to your memory card with Account A.

Insert memory card for Account B and the Vita says 'Sorry, don't recognise you!' and gives you the option to reset. Doing so erases your Account B card.

After this process your Vita is bonded to the memory card with Account B.

Insert memory card for Account A and the Vita says 'Sorry, don't recognise you!' and gives you the option to reset. Doing so erases your Account A card.

...rinse, repeat...

(Don't take from this that multiple cards for a single account won't work - I'm sure they will. The Vita will, I guess, only complain if the memory card has been bonded to an account different to the one it is currently bonded to.)

We already knew the memory cards were tied to both the system and the psn account, the sony representative is using an example of someone else bringing his memory card to use on your vita, that is not going to work and will need a format.

The theory of using 2 memory cards with 2 diferent psn logins is to have both memory cards tied to the same vita and 2 diferent account, and i think that dream is still possible.

Agreed. Unless you're a press outlet, I don't understand someone's need to create an unboxing video.

It's not gonna make you format your memory card everytime you put it in, so you will be able to use an account per card. The only difference if that you have to format every time you want to change accounts. You would still have your data on each card though so it's just an extra step if anything. Not ideal but it'll still work.

makes sense

.. unless your Vita can only be 'bonded' to one PSN account at a time and will refuse to recognise cards bonded to another without a reset.

Which I think might be the case :\

We'll see though.

What kills me, besides the obvious inconvenience, is that the mess gives off the impression nobody at Sony knows how the thing works. It's like they found ancient blueprints under a construction site and are hoping the thing doesn't turn out to be an alien weapon.

Yeah everything is possible, we are dreaming here, but the example he used on that article is pretty specific

“which means that if a second person is using your Vita, it’s not just a case of switching out memory cards, it’s clearing out all of your saved data on the Vita itself when you do the factory reset.”

Yeah, but if it means reconfiguring your OS/screens/themes, it's going to be an annoying process. Blekh

I also wondering if in order to play your DD games/apps, would you need to connect online to authenticate your content? :S

Stupid Sony don't know whether they are coming or going sometimes. They need one central base really for hardware PR queries.

Can anyone PLEASE guide me how I can order a PS Vita from amazon.jp? I don't know any jap

I have never purchased anything from Japanese Amazon so far, but I still can advice you; you may find there's a link top right, English version, I guess clicking there you'll supposedly find all the informations you need, by the way I checked it myself before potring to make sure there was a FAQ section in English.

How many games will there be for US/EU launch.

These are the games I can think of that could make it for launch
Modnation Racers Road Trip
WipeOut 2048
Reality Fighters
Little Deviants
Virtua Tennis 4
Hot Shots Golf World Invitational
Ultimate Marvel VS Capcom 3
Lumines Electric Symphony
Uncharted Golden Abyss
Gravity Rush
Dynasty Warriors Next
Disgaea 3
Ridge Racer
BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend
Unit 13
Army Corps of Hell
Lord of Apocalypse
Katamari Damacy
Shinobido 2
Dungeon Hunter Alliance
F1 2011
FIFA
MotorStorm RC (download only)
Escape Plan (download only)
Super Stardust Delta (download only)
Plants VS Zombies (download only)

Thats a killer line up but wouldn't that be too much.

We'll see though.

The new article is pretty specific. Only one account for the Vita. Won't read (populated) card owned by another account.

If DCharlie is reading this, the test he needs to run is:
(1) Buy PSN games from 2 accounts on the same PS3
(2) Try to copy/install both games to the one account on the Vita

Will both install work ? Or will one of them fail ?
