It's all fun and games until somebody messes up the ojou-sama's drills.

Personally I find this whole thing hilarious and I'm surprised there were others playing along.

It was fun pretending to be a proper butler for a while. ^^; Though yeah it's gotten old so I'm gonna stop. My apologies, ojou-sama.

No worries, you were a great butler. Can't say the same about that tsundere maid though.

Supernatural Drum 23
That's not how you put out a fire.

Usagi Idol Drop Master 24
I enjoyed this episode a lot since it's easy to relate to the core theme presented here. Made me remember similar situations in my life and it got to me a bit.

Guilty Pleasure ep 10
Man, Production IG sure loves kicking Shoe in the balls non-stop,he's getting more more wimpier and pathetic. Where have I see this before?

I can see why they cast Yuuki Kaiji for this role. He's good for portraying wimps like Shoe.

lol bad art.

Penguin 23:

Can it be next week yet? The scene with
Himari and Shouma in the dream
was fantastic, as was the scene with them
on the beach with Kanba.

I don't know how they're going to explain
Momoka and Sanetoshi's existence
but I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for them to try.

The one thing I'm kind of apprehensive about is the
plot twist they keep hinting at.
I'm not sure where they are going with it, unless the
boxes
are just
symbolic, like so many other things in the show.

I thought that it was mostly deliberate metaphors being made. Boxes = train cars = human bodies/self, what with sanetoshi's speech being in a train. May even have been a pun, dunno if any japanese speakers can elaborate.

I can accept the concept of momoka turning sanetoshi into a ghost due to the supernatural/magical status of the diary as it has already been established, and she was unable to completely banish him because sanetoshi interrupted her fate-transfer. (so instead of being banished completely from the world, he was turned into a ghost of sorts, able to interact in a very limited matter).

What I want to know is, how come Sanetoshi was able to transform her into a hat? O_o.

Step 1. Convince anime fans to lower expectations.
Step 2. Start using three year olds and crayons to save money.
Step 3.
Sell high def BDs.
Step 4. Profit.

Penguins 23

Why is there only one episode left? I don't want this show to end :(

So Momoka is actually BOTH penguin hats? Seems believable in hindsight, but I wonder why the thought never occurred to me before.

Ben-to 10

Glad we're back on the right track.

I'll never look at shopping baskets the same way again.

Fate/Zero 11

I'm sorry I ever doubted Rider's awesomeness, even for a moment.

What a guy.

I pretty much stopped watching the anime after it ruined my favorite in all of Naruto. Talk about letdowns -_-
It wasn't just episode 167 that sucked, the others sucked a ton too. They put more effort in Sasuke's fight vs Deidara than Naruto vs Pein. The fuck?

Heartcatch Precure! Fashion Show in the Capital of Flowers... Fo' Realz!?:

Most spin-off movies to long-running telly series feel like nothing but an episode of the show on a big screen. This one... is just the same. It even goes to the point of introducing a new character to become the centre focus of the entire flick. Fashion Show's high point, however, is that Olivier is a microcosm of each of the Precure's character growth from the series -the scenes with him spending time with the girls and them opening up to him are beautifully done, certainly helped by the sublime background art of Paris.

I think that worked out well for the film. It gave it a reason to exist, rather than just have the same characters run through material that has already been well trodden. It's very easy to go wrong when you're making an anime movie based off a series, there's so many pitfalls. They could have just made it all fights, for example, but they didn't got that route either, which is a good thing.

It's rather commendable.
I like all of Satoshi Kon's stuff. His movies and Paranoia Agent. I loved Kino's Journey. I loved Ghost in the Shell: SAC. I enjoyed Serial Experiments Lain. Someone told me to watch Mushishi. I also started watching Baccano but I couldn't make it through it. It never held my interest.

As you mentioned Stand Alone Complex you should probably also watch Moribito, as it's from the same director.

I'm going to assume you've seen most Ghibli stuff but I do recommend checking out Miyazaki's first film, Castle of Cagliostro which is an extremely well made adventure movie.

On the opposite side of that, you might also want to have a look at the works of Isao Takahata, he's a fairly realistic and down to earth director, which doesn't necessarily gel with what you've mentioned above, but he does some great stuff. Gauche the Cellist will only take about an hour of your time.

Mononoke is a rather strange series which most people, including myself, would recommend.

There's lots more, of course, but there's plenty of other resources, including the threads, to look for regarding that.

When did this show become Tamayura again? Seems like a long way from the wacky moe variety show and weird idoru Olympics from whenever ago.

Quite the :firehawk ending though.

well I wouldn't called it that at all unless every ep is in the same art style maybe ill let you get away with bad art direction for fight but wouldn't call that the style of the show
But the show is usually hideously ugly and bad looking so a departure from that is a good thing.

You should definitely watch Mushishi. Just be warned its an episodic show without an over arching plot, which really bothers some people for some reason. A show from this year I'd recommend is Wandering Son if the subject matter is something that seems interesting to you.

Finished watching Fate/stay night the other day. It was not that good, but better than I expected it to be based on the first half of the show. It gets so much better in the second half, the last few episodes are pretty good. I like the entire idea behind it too. Too bad it has extremely bad animation (except in the last episode), and a really slow and boring first half.
I'd give it a 6 or a 7 out of 10.

I liked Unlimited Blade Works much more. Sure it was rushed, but I think the movie expects the viewer to know what the hell is going on for the most part. It's an alternate retelling of the series, so it doesn't bother explaining or showing stuff that's known from the series. If you watch it as a stand alone movie, sure, it's bad, but I can't, to me it's an extension of the series. And the good thing is, stuff is going on really fast, as opposed to the series, and the animation is gorgeous. 8 out of 10.

And now I've started Fate/Zero, and my god this is good. I'm happy that I saw FSN beforehand, sure, it spoiled the ending for me, but I enjoy watching all the known characters from FSN, all of their stories, the little things that allude to the first (or second, depending on your point of view) series. Anyway, I'm pleased so far, can't wait to see the rest.

As much as I love the fight sequences in Heartcatch a full movie of that would be out of place. Plus the actual development time outside of the battle segments give those a bigger punch when they come around. Too much combat can be a detriment: for example, schlock like Advent Children or a Transformers movie, where the action is so non-stop it loses any impact after the first three or four fights.

Not to turn into some god damn picture-centric anime blog but I was mentioning how Penguin Drum 23 has amazing visual direction that successfully encapsulates a variety of strikingly different moods and tones:

LoGH Gaiden: 100 Billion etc. 9-12

'Twas nice to see Kircheis get some time in the limelight, instead of always being in Reinhard's shadow. One thing that really stood out to me when watching this is how well the visual depictions of the characters show their personalities - hunched shoulders for weariness, straight back for stiff formality, leaning forward while walking for resolved determination. It's not flashy or anything, but it's an attention to detail that helps create a convincing narrative.

But I have to say, these criminals keep making the dumbest mistakes.
Columbo had more convincing bluffs.

Guilty Crown 10
So Shu's a shitty character but damn the rest of the story seems quite intriguing. There was just something creepy about that song.

Perhaps you misunderstand me, I was saying that it's a good thing that the movie wasn't wall to wall fight sequences. That rarely makes for good storytelling or interesting characters.

I'm going out of my way to not use that term, as you might be able to tell.
For me nostalgia is an almost negative quality - i.e., the sad football star who hangs around high school 5 years after he graduated because his life sucks - so I insist on the distinction.

Level E 10

This was a good episode, surprisingly good for being non-comedic and
not having the Prince show up at all
. The direction was effective in its use of layout, angles, and color, the art is the best it's been outside episode 4 - very evocative backgrounds - and the narrative is a poignant reflection on friendship and loss. Would have not expected this show could pull something like this off.
