The overall quality of Brotherhood's direction makes all of your claims dubious.

I've flipped around on it the past few months, but I've finally decided that the original is indeed better.

I find it really hard to pick one, as I find that certain elements in one series far superior to how it was handled in the alternate show, making it pretty hard to simply chose one over the other in any kind of definitive manner.

I honestly don't know what the hell is going on. It feels like plot relevant episodes were cut out at random, and now we have a mishmash of a plot as a result.

I felt like it got easier/less confusing to follow after episode 5, thanks to the events being played in a more straightforward mode. Then again, I did like it from the first episode (silly, fun, with action, big boobed girls sporting shiny black stockings and a good amount of abuse toward smug douché).

It did get less confusing, but that's also because they finished infodumping all the backstory in the first half of the series - The Divine States, Tori the impossible, The Testament Union, Horizon, Masazumi, Honda family, etc. The writing remains just as bad past Episode 5, but you have less exposition to worry about and more silly fun to witness in place of that instead. The show's awesome but the series has remained consistent. The better episodes aren't vastly different than what was evident in the early episodes. It is, however, more straightforward as you say, but it isn't going to convince those who have already dropped the series to pick it back up. If anything, the straightforwardness is a gift to those of us who stuck around with it long enough.
