I am importing a Vita. Question for any JP Vita owners with a US account on it. If I downloaded the Vita demos that are on the JP store on my PS3, Would I be able to switch over to my US account after they finish downloading and install them onto the Vita (which would have my US account on it)?

No.

You have to download the PSN content using the same account you use on your Vita.

Hmm. I may be going to Hong Kong next week. Wondering whether I should wait for the official launch, or nab myself a HK system, which looks a tad expensive. Then again, I have no idea what the price will be when it officially launches in Singapore (where I live). Decisions decisions....

Wi-Fi model is less than 2300HKD. Given fixed exchange ratio to dollar, that's the cheapest you will get it.

Oh here's one of the great things about Vita. The buttons are silent! I always got a bit self-conscious about playing MH on the train because the buttons on PSP are so damned loud, but Vita is basically silent. I'll be able to sneak in some WC gaming time at work now :)

If I buy a Japanese vita.

Will I be able to use my US account to buy Us games?

At the same time use Japanese carts?

WILL I BE OKAY?

Currently, you can't use the EU/US/etc stores, only Japan, so it can't be tested.

EU account I used for Vita at first worked just fine with Uncharted, just no access to PSN store. You can transfer items related to the account registered to Vita, so I assume when the EU/US stores launch in February, that you can buy normally like before. I could not transfer GTA:Chinatown Wars or LBP from EU PS3 to EU accounted Vita, because it did not show in the Vita transfer menu. Have to check this later.

I like the sound of that

Damn, this makes me want to put down my PSP and play everything on Vita. That screen is just so nice and the emulation seems excellent and better than native.

Thank you so much.

That was was very informative.

Hopefully they will allow access to US PSN before the release.

I just did an online conversion, and 2300HK is about 300 USD. That is 50 bucks more expensive than the US launch price, no? Or did I screw up somewhere?

You are correct, I'm getting 306USD (if the exchange rate is still 7.5HKD per 1USD). Crazily expensive lol, what is Sony HK thinking? Then again, I am almost certain it's gonna be more expensive in Singapore, you got more money there ^^

You might want to try stores like Golden Arcade in Sham Shui Po, they should have it cheaper than official price.

The latency in 3G is terrible. We're taking 500 milliseconds at best, which is completely unsuitable for most online games. There are many iOS and Android games with multiplayer which require a wifi connection for playing.

Don't know if it's any different (i'd assume only the bandwith is?) but I usually ping 120/150ms over UMTS HSDPA (via USB key) so, (while obviously not competively) I can play the vast majority of online games with good netcode wthout suffering any consistent/visible lag. There are certain days/hours of the day where it's shit, of course.
But it's far from unplayable, and more than decently suited for some genres. Obviously it's not the optimal way to play online games!

GAF/Have their been any videos showing any kind of video chat on the vita? Is skype working? I cant seem to find anything unless the VITA doesnt support it?

Japan store only has Twitter so far and i'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that the launch of Skype won't support video calling.

Honestly, the only reason I'm still playing my PSP is because I have a physical copy of Fate/Extra and I'm close to the end. Once I beat that, I'll probably be moving completely to the Vita, except for the occasional English-language game from America land.

Wait a fucking second. The Vita PSN game store is IP LOCKED?! FFFFFUUUUUUCCCCKKKK!!!

Holy shit! That's a disaster! The worst possible case scenario! That means that if a game is released in Japan only, it will be COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE TO EVEN IMPORT IT!!! Truly locked away in Japan only forever!

Not to mention that us folk who live in Europe and have US PS1 games on their PS3/PSP won't be able to play them on the Vita.

How the hell does this not have it's own thread yet? That's an apocalyptic scenario!

You can tell Muff was seconds away from blowing the biggest load of his life when he typed that out...

Oh wait, I misread it. He was trying to access the US store, not the JPN one.

Phew! Scared myself for a moment there!

...but instead got stuck with the worst case of blue balls ever.

A few questions for Vita owners (jelly'ing here):

When you hold the Vita naturally, do you cover the speaker grills with your hand/finger? When pressing the X button or down arrow, do you accidentally touch/flick the sticks?

to anyone on GAF who made lines and was there "day 1" on japanese launch:

would you say this is a succesful launch? how succesful?

can you please compare it to any other console? 3DS? PS3? Wii? etc.?

Found other launch week numbers in the media create thread:

PS2 - 630,552
GBA - 611,504
DS - 441,485
3DS - 371,326
PSP - 166,074
PS3 - 88,443

I believe we should be getting some preliminary data for Vita launch week in the next day or two.

How many days was the PSP tracked that week? Pretty weak showing.

I don't cover the speakers. To cover them would be an unnatural way to hold the console. The sticks you might actually hit accidentally, but that depends on how you hold the console. Easy to not touch.

Meanwhile, Sony stock gained.... 0.7%.

Best news of the day is your comment about silent buttons, I mean I'll be able to play in the bed with my wife sleeping next to me. Killer feature.

The same people who dropped those Nintendo stocks musta jumped ship to Sony clearly

I haven't been having that issue yet. It's definitely possible to do, but it's also easy to avoid.

As for lines, I live in a small city outside of Nagasaki City, so I didn't expect any lines at all. We got about 20 people for a total of 17 systems. The store I pre-ordered at didn't have any lines because they had no extra systems for launch day.

It's emulation after all and some of the PSP on Vita shots showed what looked like visuals without dithering.
I seriously doubt that they emulate the GPU and drawing routines of psp, most likely they just pass the drawing commands to new gpu on psp2.
The reason why there is no dithering is that it renders either in higher precision buffer and/or the tiled rendering keeps precision better internally before outputting the data to actual display buffer.

I was worried about that too, but you don't cover the speakers at all. Not had the other issue either. The only issue I have had, and Monster Hunter players will probably have the same issue - when using "the claw", the d-pad is in a slightly different position, so I need to adjust to it. I keep hitting down by accident when rotating the camera. Also, the start button is in a different place to PSP, but it'll definitely be ok once I get used to it.

... wouldn't it make more sense to use the second analog as the camera controls?
One of the greatest things about the vita was the death of the claw.

Another reason people used the claw is because you never had to take your right thumb off the face buttons to adjust the camera.

i'm too used to the claw - i want to be able to run, check location of enemy, and cycle inventory at the same time and whilst that's possible with right thumbstick, i'm just too used to the claw to give it up.

As a dual sword wielder, it's hard to use the right analog stick while I'm attacking, and I do need to track the monster a lot while attacking. But it works great while not attacking.
