That's encouraging at least, but still hardly scientific. Why hasn't a proper test been done by anyone yet? Nobody has waited this long for a previous handheld before... (I mean FFS, we've gotten Game Card VS Memory Card speed tests but nothing on battery life?! That should be priority number one!)
I missed this, where can i read about it?

Wow, I mean, what's the hurry? Unless you are importing, there's still a good two months to get those battery tests.

Was just posted not long ago, but it comes from Kotaku (of all places!)

http://kotaku.com/5869222/which-is-faster-vita-game-cards-or-vita-downloads/gallery/1

Retail Game Cards load faster than their download counterparts.
That's technically not "scientific" either, haha.

Man, PSVita games for 24.99$? You Americans have it easy...

I dread to think what will it be like here in Germany? Probably 39.99EUR or 44.99EUR.
he's actually referring to bestbuy.ca. they ran e3 preorder deals for 25 bucks and now it seems you can buy most of them for 25 bucks right now. i don't know what's up with that, but i'm taking advantage.

Uncharted
LBP
Wipeout
Modnation
Hot Shots

all for 25 bucks each wooooo.

edit: well a couple were like 27 or something, but still.

Regarding that Kotaku comparison, i wonder why the top Vita has english OS, but japanese text in the game, while the bottom Vita has japanese OS, but english text in the game?

Yeah, it's a great deal for Canuckistan.

I think around 39€ (for Uncharted).
Or just buy them at zavvi or amazon.co.uk (yeah, I know. UK version only ^^)

Actually, I will do just that. English and German are not my native languages, and I'm ok with both. So Amazon UK it is. I only hope shipping is not expensive.

Uncharted isn't 25 still though. 50$! Yay....

yeah how is that going to work? is sony going to release the games at the same time as the first edition bundle? or do us early purchasers have to wait a week for the games to come out?

In the past, a lot of retailers use to put games out on the shelf as they arrived before a system launch. I'm hoping for that with Vita. I don't see Best Buy shipping my games out early though. I bet they ship them for the 22nd.

Any retailer offering the first edition bundle might sell early though.

Edit: Actually, bestbuy.ca is doing the First Edition Bundle. Maybe they will ship early.

According to the Vita page on PlayStation.com http://us.playstation.com/psvita/games-and-media/, the release date of a lot of the launch games is actually 02/15/12 so it looks like there should be games for First Edition purchasers to pick up with their system.

Nah, not really.
Check play.com, zavvi.com and amazon.co.uk.
Never had problems with their shipping fees :)

Care to give a summary of the findings? I don't do Kotaku any more.

Edit: I meant anything further that what you already stated.

It was just a short video, less than 2 minutes, from Kotaku Japan showing two Vitas start the same game simultaneously. The game card version looked to load 1 to 3 seconds faster than the PSN version on memory card.

Thanks. Didn't know if it was a significant increase in performance. I'm toying with the idea of going 100% DD with the Vita. Still not sure though....

Here is the direct link to the video on Youtube if you dont want to go through Kotaku first:

I'm still curious why ther title screen on the two versions are different (one is japanese and one is english), and if this has anything to do with the difference in preformance, if there are two different versions of the game.

Same here with 100% DD via PSN. But DCharlie had a great suggestion; DD for multiplayer titles like Hot Shots & Wipeout, but physical for single player titles like Uncharted GG.

I think I may end up doing that.

Good advice, keep what you will play in the long term. Buy at retail, beat, and sell back SP games.

re: battery life

i've done nothing "scientific" but i don't think there's going to be any problems with it, played the machine through out yesterday in short spurts and still plenty of charge.

Will try and do something today as i'm almost certainly off work sick.

Thanks a bunch! Nobody else seems willing!

Fair enough, but they're still much, much longer than they should be (especially compared to other cart-based systems). Not a deal-breaker, but it's still jarring.

These games may be larger than your typical cart game. I don't know that to be the truth but that could be a reason why it appears to take longer that what you would think. From watching the Red Sun Gamer live stream, the load times seemed to be all over the place. Some titles loading quickly and other seeming to take a while. However, they were also testing background downloads, custom sound tracks, party chat, etc.

"sick"

I'm surprised how long the load times are, period. You'd think they were running off a UMD or something. I expected more from a cart.
The Vita has a lot more memory to fill than any other cart-based system. (Eg. ~4x as much as 3DS)
Still, I expect load times to get better with non-launch titles.

haha, i really am quite sick.

I was already suffering on saturday and a night out in the cold hasn't helped my cause.

Damn, get better, and thanks for those (maybe) incoming battery tests :)

If you could do one with low brightness, kinda low sound and wifi/3g off, please? That's how I'll play most of the time (at home, like a lot of people).

A good idea could be also testing how long it takes when on the OS/some apps compared to ingame. I don't think you need to deplete the battery completely either, just a 20% or something?

will try and get around to it - not to sound like a bit of a dick but i -really- need to actually start playing the games :)

So what i'll do is monitor and track usage, i'll set the base line at :

1) start from fully charged
2) nothing but game playing
3) will note brightness and sound and keep consistant , will log if i switch to headphones
4) will be wifi/3G off
5) ultimately it'll all be set at "Dcharlie comfort gaming" level

I have absolutely no doubt that the final battery life time is going to be good. I'm guestimating from usage so far that i'm going to get around 4 hours from a full charge.

It kinda feels weird that there so few things to complain about the vita at this moment. Except for the obvious apocalyptic stuff going on and the one account per system and mandatory memory card. If everything keeps like this I might pick it up for launch (US), and that's something I wasn't even considering before. So I'm guessing the battery should be fine since no one has really complained about it yet.

hope someone tests with wifi on, since that's how i'll be playing inside.

This is where Friend List on handhelds are kind of useless -- thanks to weak battery tech. To save battery life no one will have wifi on unless the game needs it, so you'll never see many people online with Vita -- exactly like the 3DS.
