So... MPD 24 feels like a
Madoka Ending.
It comes off really empty.
Funny you should mention this because I felt the exact same way.

Recreating the universe so that such and such never happened, at the cost of your own existence.

Except Madoka handled it much better.

The more I go back and check the other episodes of Penguindrum the more I see how tightly woven everything is. It's fucking ridiculous how well tied together everything is, that all the previous episodes really do compliment the ending entirely.

Guilty Crown
Most of you seemed to have dropped the show already but holy shit show seems to be getting good now.

I know it's been said it's going to be a 2-part show so ~12-12 or ~24-24?

I don't think most people have dropped it yet. Everybody just hates it and continues to watch it to hate on it some more. Which reminds me...

Guilty Crown 10

Man this show continues to get dumber and dumber. I also continue to hate all the characters more and more every episode.
If Gai was sane he would have shot Shu first chance he got after he deserted and risked everyone's lives like that.

Mawaru Penguindrum 24: On the one hand, SYMBOLISM PORN. On the other hand, that was just beautiful visually, aurally, and thematically. I don't think I can write a coherent piece on why this is the perfect ending to the show though; it's just the kind of resolution I wasn't expecting, but the one that the Takakura family needed.

Mawaru Penguindrum fin: Similarly, I don't wanna comment on the show more profoundly upon another rewatch, but if I had to give it a rating right now it would be "masterpiece". There are plot holes everywhere, but the character drama, ranging from the whimsical to serious and sometimes stopping on the farcical, had me engaged even when there were obvious budget issues. The end product was indeed greater than the sum of all its elements in this instance.

P.S. Nice to see Ikuhara has left his "men are dipshits" phase behind.

Penguin Drum END

Quite an ending. It really ends in a way that keeps with how the show was presented throughout. Loved the visuals, and I thought they brought home the overall themes of the show very well with the conclusion. There are a number of plot elements left mostly unexplained, and while that in itself is really a problem given the nature of the show, it still leaves me not understanding the significance of certain parts of the show. The flair for metaphor and symbolism went over my head a bit at times, or at least it was difficult for me to tie it into the overall narrative, so I feel like this is a good show to re-watch in the near future I can grasp the stuff I missed.

More like Lain handled it much better, I was never very content with the way it was executed in Madoka, personally.

Anyways, I'm content with this ending.

TOxA site is go! PV is here

Edit:

Animation production: SILVER LINK
Director: Shin Oonuma
Series Composition: Katsuhiko Takayama
Character design and animation director: Yukiko Ban

The manga was okay so I'll probably follow this.

The last time Bones did a Eureka Seven thing, we got Eureka Seven.

It's about time they finally returned to the series.

This is the truth.

I'm literally spasming over here after I heard the news. I was not ready for this. Please god for all things good announce the original staff is returning. HD Eureka and HD sky mech fights? Oh GOD YES.

I DEMAND 50 episodes to make up for the stain that is Xam'd.

Details for KyoAni's new show have been revealed:

bg.jpg

Director: Yasuhiro Takemoto (FMP series, Lucky Star)
Script: Shoji Gatoh (FMP series, Druaga series)
Character Design: Futoshi Nishiya (Nichijou)

Good art, as expected of modern KyoAni.

Will watch. Hopefully while Gatoh is working there he can convince someone to make the rest of FMP.

Overall today has been a god tier day with return of Eureka 7. Mother of god that was left field.

Guilty Crown 11

I don't know why I keep watching this. Its like the Maury Show of anime. That being said, anything mediocre after last week's traveshamockery would've been a step up. It looks like things are on a good track though.

Absolutely. Seeing that Penguin Drum ending within 8 months of
Madoka's
ending removed the impact I assume Ikuhara wanted the viewer to experience.

The biggest failure of the original E7 is that it was 50 episodes and they pretty much had enough story for 25 or so. I'm not likely to watch this sequel series on principle, because the original E7 wasted almost as much time as Blood+ did, but I'll laugh if it's another 50 episodes. Like I said before: How about no.

PenDrum 24.

Love right to the bitter end. Fabulous max, show of the year, still in tears, never be coherent again!

Honestly, I still preferred the show when it was the Ringo show. Talk about a waste of a character.

No. E7 wasn't just about the main narrative but the world and characters (all of which tie together). The early episodes especially among the Gekko established the characters, most of whom played vital parts in the series. Later episodes expanded the scope, especially the middle ones, and showed the state the world was in and gave some backstory. The major ones that could have been trimmed were probably the ones with Eureka and Renton on the 'new' planet but those also had a purpose in that they were trying to show the emotional strain the couple were under.

Xam'd was shit because of the rushed pacing due to the limited number of episodes. They tried way too many plot points and had way too few episodes to pull it off. They didn't have the time necessary to fully articulate what they wanted to accomplish with certain story lines.

Guilty Crown 11

Show is so much more entertaining when Shu isn't being complete shit.

I will miss Dan. He seemed like a good guy.

Saint Seiya 4-6

Shiryu is a boss. Dude can punch waterfalls to make them flow up!

Is it just me, or does this and Fist of the North Star have a few IDENTICAL tracks? Maybe it's an 80s anime thing.

E7 would have been far better paced as a ~30 episode show.

Who knows. Honestly I think the pacing is fine as it is, even though it's on the slow side. There certainly are a few episodes that could have been reduced but that can be said for many series with shorter episode counts.

Penguin Drum END

.....I was actually right with my crackpot theory on the use of penguins in the show. Lol, I definitely don't think I reached it in the quickest of manner's, and am wondering what the hell kind of logic jumps I was making there, but the actual intent was on the mark in the end.

As for the show itself, I dropped it around 12 because it was by that point that I begun to realize that I didn't at all care for the characters enough to weather the heavy handed philosophizing, but all of your posts here did make me want to see how it ended. That said, the use of music was incredible in moments, but those flashbacks, they broke all flow/tension, and the constant deus ex machinas,
and with that the ending itself,
as figurative as they were supposed to be at times, were as silly here as they were in the beginning.

It's not a show that I ended up enjoying, really, but it was a risk taken that I applaud, appreciate, and is something I would like to see more producer people do: take some damn risks.

Penguindrum 24
Not bad at all. I actually didn't see that particular ending coming, so that's nice.

On the series as a whole, I appreciate how it takes fairly simple themes, and then it examines them in the most overcomplicated way it can. I think that keeps the show grounded while still making it fun to think about.

Overall, a good watch. The show had its ups and downs, and there were times when I considered dropping it, but I eventually got wrapped up into the story and mostly enjoyed it. I wouldn't say that it "saved" anime, but if more anime tried as hard as Penguindrum, I think we'd be in a good place. Yeah, I'll say Penguindrum tried pretty hard to be something meaningful. I haven't decided yet if it succeeded (I think I'll need a second watching to decide if it came together as a masterpiece of fell apart into a big mess), but it tried, and I appreciate it for that.

Hyouga > Ikki > Shiryu > Shun >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Seiya

Quoteing the truth right here.

The arcs I remember liking are the dark saints arc, golden saints arc and the snow mountain one can't remember what’s it called.

Everyone has there own complex

shun = brother complex

hyouga = mother complex

Shiryu = stripper complex (he just can't help get naked)

Seiya = masochist( getting beats only heats up his raging riseing comos)

Ikki = the wolverine like bad boy tsundere of the show

Not playing TOR is probably the better choice imo.

/ignores years of past WoW subscriptions

I just have a bad habit of always needing a regular fix of something between playing newer games... So I quit WoW and went into TOR... When I play, I watch anime on one screen (I have it split to output to my TV and secondary monitor) while I MMO on my second monitor.

Multi-tasking ftw. I usually had a podcast on if I wasn't on skype or vent.

Yeah, I miss Ringo Drum. She never did go anywhere.

Hidan no Aria OVA - This is a recently released bonus episode. As usual for such things there are no plot developments worth mentioning, but it's a fun episode that anyone who was entertained by the series should also see. It's more of the same, basically, and it's as amusing now as ever. Bad Aria is such a silly show... :)

In this OVA, the cast goes on a Butei training camp trip to a hot springs resort. Expect fanservice in the first half, and a not-murder mystery story in the second half. The ending is ... weird ..., but the episode is good stuff overall. Some things of note -- in the first half, as usual most of the female cast's breasts seem to mysteriously grow in the bath. Also, things such as bars of soap, headphones, and rubber duckies are apparently bulletproof. Lucky thing... :p And finally, shooting at her classmates just because of that? Touchy, Aria... if not for the magic of animation this whole cast would have killed eachother long ago.

The mystery part is solid, and does a good job of slowly ramping up the creepiness from each incident to the next, until at the end...
just as a ghost hand reaches out and totally creeps out Aria and the MC, they ... wake up in the van again, just as they arrive in town. Though it's not really explained, apparently the whole episode was just a ghost-dream, and none of it actually happened. I didn't really see that coming, but I can say that I did find the fact that the town was totally empty, aside from the inn's owner, to be odd. The ending did explain that, but still, that was a strange ending to say the least.

And yeah, I know the show has had supernatural elements before of course, but the whole thing being a hallucination or something inflicted on them by ghosts? What a strange ending.
So yeah, watch it. It's more Bad Aria, just as it was before!

Bad Aria OVA

What?

No seriously, what?
What, it was too awesome for words? Or do you mean that ending? It was weird, yes.

It's a mystery, actually. Plot summary from the manga adaptation:
The story of Hyoka follows a boy named Hōtarō who is not assertive about getting involved, but was ordered by his older sister to join the classic literature club. In the club, he gets close to the truth about an incident, involving a female member's uncle, which happened 33 years ago. The "energy-saving" boy is joined by an inquisitive girl in this adolescent mystery.
Hmm, that doesn't give a great idea of what the show will be, no... is it harem? Drama? Romance? Comedy? Several of the above? Do we have any idea?

Of course, it's KyoAni so it'll be worth seeing what it is at least, and it'll surely be well animated, but yeah, what kind of series is it...

OK due to some reccomendation, I have watched 5 Episode of Chuyufuu (or however you want to spell it) and I like it. There are some good set piieces there that kind of connects everything in a more emotional way.

The only only thing that I don't like about it is the presentation is awful. The art work is up there as one of the most unpleasent artworks I have seen and the animation is very very simple. Not to mention the some of the facial propations are just odd. Another one is the way it induces its melodrama is quite cringe worthy.

The Karuta sport is one I have never heard about and its quite an intresting one. I am glad I have watched this

Thanks Anime-Gaf for this (although many of your reccomendation is a bit... off ;p)
I know it's been said already, but yeah, like most people here, I find Karuta, the game, quite dull. The other elements of the show make it good, but definitely not that...

Steroyd said:
Wow what a backwards looking opinion, I think it's the first time someone has called Karuta "interesting", from either in or outside of the series lol. I think it's supposed to be portrayed as a boring game with us being invested in the enthusiasm of the characters love for it, which actually works.

Now excuse me, I have to unbutton my shirt.
No, pretty much everyone else in the show thinks it's boring or at least outdated, but the main cast, or Chihaya at least, thinks it's great!

Guilty Crown

For some reason people seem to be disagreeing with you on that particular issue.

Why you guys hatin on xam'd?
Xam'd was awezom..

I do believe X'amd is a good show right up until episode 14. Then it really starts to go downhill because they clearly had no idea what was supposed to happen next so they just dropped in a lot of filler.

Penguin Drum 20-Finale

That went from 0 to WTF faster than most Ikuhara works.

Ending:
So basically, the 'curse' was the penguindrum, and was also the thing that let them escape the broiler? Bittersweet ending was bittersweet, instant I saw Himari's bear I knew what was coming.

No tears, but still very sad yet satisfying. Definitely going to require a second viewing to catch everything.

Penguin Drum Finale

Beautiful ending. Touched on all the theme running throughout the show in an incredibly stylish and poignant way. I'll definitely have to rewatch it soon.
