Supposedly, WWE held internal discussions this week about ending Michael Cole's heel character on commentary. Rating trends indicate that all segments that spotlight babyfaces going from the main event on down see either ratings losses or no substantial gains, while segments that spotlight heels see ratings increases. Some brave ones in the company have finally suggested to Vince that it may not be an issue of the babyface talent, but Michael Cole's commentary that is causing fans to tune out in large numbers. It was pointed out that Cole consistently buries babyface talent by pointing out legitimate flaws that could affect their perception to fans and also, his gimmick takes away focus from matches. Former Intercontinental Champion Lance Storm critcized the company after this week's Raw for similar reasons, saying, "Advice to WWE. Stop having everyone point out each other's flaws, especially legit ones. Why is everyone burying the talent and the product?"

It's always been considered taboo to criticize Cole's character, since Vince McMahon is a huge fan of it. Vince is the author of just about everything thing Cole says on TV that's not related to the match in the ring. No one is putting any heat on Cole because everyone understands he's just doing what Vince tells him to do.

I'm hoping ex-DGUSA commentator Rob Naylor does well - he made his debut ring announcing for FCW a few weeks back and although he looked scared shitless, he has two clear advantages over Cole; one, he can actually call a match move-for-move and two, he actually sounds genuinely excited about the product he's commentating on.

It's like people calling Orton having great matches, people have been grown to accept mediocrity and talk as if it's something above average.
 
The Raw Ratings are in and the rating was 2.93.

Raw averaged 4.46 million viewers overall. Raw's first hour averaged 4.33 million viewers and the second hour increased to an average of 4.59 million viewers, the most second hour viewers since November 21, the night after Survivor Series.

That my biggest issue with Cole, he sounds fake. Always has. I've NEVER liked him on the table. It's insane that the company has both JR and Joey Styles under contract, and puts Michael Cole on every show.

I'm not gonna crap on Orton right now. I'm up and down with my opinion on the guy all the time, but he's been working hard this year. Despite my dislike of his "viper" mannerisms, and how he feels obligated to get every one of his moves into every match no matter how convoluted the setup, they guy's solid.
