Can someone explain how to get demos from the Japanese store working while I'm logged into a US account? Id have to download them directly from the store of that makes any difference (don't have a PS3 nearby). And I only have one memory card, formatted to US (but don't mind buying another if it makes things simpler)

Are people experiencing a lot of freezes? I got my import vita today in Australia. I have had 8 hard freezes in an hour. 3 whilst updating location in near, 3 when trying to play ridge racer Demo and 2 in the camera app turning on location services :/

Am I supposed to be able to update my NEAR location?

Haven't gotten any freezes on the Vita itself and I've logged at least 20 hours on it . My PS3 did freeze once with the Vita connected though.

Have you updated to the 1.51 firmware yet? No freezes as well.

Yep. Had to update before I could sign into PSN! It seems like anything with location services is making it crash.

Is yours a WIFI only version? I suggest re-doing your wifi connection settings and see what's the wifi strength?

If you bought the 3G version, dont use the SIM card first check whether it's the WIFI or your mobile network APN configuration is giving you the issue.

Same happens with Mario and Mario Kart, for sure. Oh, wait!
Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 aren't multiplatform though. If people could have bought them for the Wii, they'd have no reason to buy a 3DS.

Will people to give up their existing online community to buy a whole new platform to play the exact same CoD they could be playing on their existing console with their existing friends? Probably not.

The only hope it has is if they make it cross-platform with the PS3 version.

Okay. I have a feeling that it may have been due to one of my PSN downloads failing. Ridge Racer worked fine now. Will try NEAR

I can't use near, probably because of the firewall I'm behind (dorm network). Fails to get location every time.

I have had two freezes in the the first week of use, but not after that. Near does not work at my home, but at university it works just fine.

To Saint Ajola and jkh13. That's very strange. Well my temps here are either 22 degrees (aircon) or 25-30 degrees C, I dont see the issue but I have a screen protector appiled, not sure whether this would help?

Are you experiencing this? http://jin115.com/archives/51833906.html I can't read Japanese but this was the closest thing I could find.

Yep, same thing. The blotches can only be seen in a completely dark environment though. Some of the posts at that link claims it could be image retention but this is definitely an OLED manufacturing issue.

Here is what my screen looks like displaying a fully black image when it is completely dark. F/8, 8 seconds exposure, ISO 1600.

Has anyone that has got a vita NOT got the problem?
None so far(knocking wood and all).

Sorry, from previous messages I thought you got it to work already.
Simple steps:
- Set your Vita to Japan account. Copy from PS3 or download directly.
- Reset Hardware - Say "NO" when it asks to Deactivate device and Format memory card.
- When machine reboots, setup your Network&US PSN on initial screens (don't skip any of it).

That's it - you now have US account with Japanese content on the memory card (for me most demos work - but two didn't - Little Deviants and Dungeon Hunter).

Hey guys, I'm stuck in Uncharted Golden Abyss, Chapter 29. Could someone help me with this puzzle I seem to be failing at hardcore?

It's the Amulet of God 'Match the faces of the Gods' part. The puzzle is vague as hell and when I use the eye icon to look at the wall, I have no idea what I'm supposed to be looking for. The faces don't really match anything on the wheels I'm supposed to spin. Every now and then Chase says that I matched one, but I have no idea which one and what I should do from there. If I move the circles, whichever one I had right will be wrong again. This is bugging the hell out of me cause I know it's probably something stupidly simple. Help?

Same happens with Mario and Mario Kart, for sure. Oh, wait!

They didn't have proper graphics, controls or multiplayer. Things that can be fixed only in Vita, right now.
Both Mario 3DL and MK 7 are new "mainline" games. I don't think we'll be getting that with something CoD on PSV. They are also exclusive to 3DS. As was mentioned before, cross-platform is the only way for the existing CoD userbase to migrate in big numbers. Otherwise you'll have to catch a new audience.

Since you have brought this up: How can multiplayer and controls only be fixed on PSV? No one is holding Activision from implementing full fledged multi on 3DS (you don't want to play an online FPS over 3G anyway) and with the frankenstick they'd also have the possibilities of dual analogue emulation. Seeing that port assuming is fine I guess we can safely assume that CoD PSV will be ported to 3DS seeing that they managed to dumb down the gfx of CoD to Wii, which is at a bigger disadvantage in comparison to PS360 as is 3DS to PSV.

Hm, is it visible when you are watching a dark picture as well or only when it's fully black? If it's the latter it'd not be a big concern to me.

No apperently it happens with all OLEDs and is just an limitation of the technology.

Are you spinning the hair as well? There are three sections to spin, make sure you spin the top one and then the game will tell you once your have them matched.

I spin all 3, and when one matches, she's like "You got one!" But I have no clue which one, or what I'm supposed to do next. If I move any of the three again, the one I matched won't be a match anymore right?

EDIT: Got it. I was clearly trying to do something completely different. Haha.

Thanks though!

Pick one of the faces in the reference and match it by rotating the three rings. From memory there is one with big lips that's easy to spot. I think Chase stops telling you when you matched something after the first time. Just focus on one of the faces.

Yes, this is true. Apparently other OLED devices have the same problem such as the Zune HD and the samsung Galaxy SII. It happens to all OLED screens.

Hm, is it visible when you are watching a dark picture as well or only when it's fully black? If it's the latter it'd not be a big concern to me.

It happens when a pixel is set to black. The OLED will turn off the pixel but due to the scanning of the pixels to switch them on or off, excess energy may result in the pixel being lit slightly, hence the blotches.

It is visible most notable in the Sony computer entertainment presents screen, the GA loading screen and the Gravity daze loading screen.

It's not visible with a dark picture but it is visible if the screen is mostly black like with the Uncharted GA loading screen.

I think you're misunderstanding your source. While it is currently impossible to manufacture an OLED screen with zero emission (even the darkest pixels are very faintly lit) it is most certainly possible to manufacture one which is evenly dark. Neither my Nexus One nor my Galaxy Nexus has blotchy screens for example.

Incidentally, the black levels on the Vita's screen is much better (where it wasn't marred by the blotchiness) than the Galaxy Nexus. The GN's screen looks almost like an LCD next to it!

Mine is the HK set and i don't see any OLED screen problems when displaying a black screen....

I was struggling to reproduce the issue so I assumed I didn't have it, but when I only had a black image on the screen and it was really, really dark, I could see a few black spots on the lower part of the screen. Impossible to see in normal lighting and very hard to see in a dark room.
Looks very different from the images you put here as I only have a few, but it depends on your screen I guess.

Took a photo from a black screen.

Has anyone that has got a vita NOT got the problem? To test all you have to do is display a nearly completely black screen (easiest way to do this is to take a photo in a room with not light) and view the screen in a dark room.

No issues here! The screen is perfect.

My screen is horrible. Probably worse than any posted here. Doesn't really matter at all but I'll regret importing if it's somehow been rectified for US launch but that's unlikely right?

Thanks for the answers guys. Doesn't sound too bad for me. Perfect would be better of course but seeing that they are already selling this thing at a loss I can't see them aiming for more rejects for the screens.

Hey JGaffers have you read This Destructoid Article?
He says that Minna no golf bought from PSN does not contain Online Pass code and that you have to buy it separately

Any JGaffer Bought the game on PSN? I think that the article is bullshit, the reviewer doesn't know if the game comes from PSN with or without Online Pass and supposes that it is not included...

Any Gaf info?

Thanks!

Last time I checked the store you could buy an online pass for 900 yen, if I remember correctly. So yes, apparently you do have to buy it separately.

wat

Is this true? If so, that's absolutely ridiculous.

That is absolute bullshit.
If you buy Minna no Golf on the PSN store, the online pass is AUTOMATICALLY included. When you go to the online pass item in the store it says you already own it. Destructoid is making shit up.

Like each DD you buy from PSN that have online pass (I only have Modnation Racers got from PSN Downtime that requires Online Pass and it didn't require me any code). I hope that for Vita Games is the same ^_^

I also thought I read that you could buy the online separately to save some money. Not sure since it hasn't been echoed a lot.

You can buy an online pass, that's for sure, but if you buy the game you actually don't need a pass because you can't resell it and there's no reason for dissuading resale of a game that you can't sell using "online pass method" :D

I wouldn't mind that actually, especially if that's in addition to the psn version already being cheaper. Not a fan of online for games outside of a few rare cases (like fighting games).

Is Everybodys Golf Vita as good as the PSP versions as far as unlockables go? I know it has some character customization in it but I was wondering if all that stuff was unlocked or if they are just basic color changes for the characters.

Of course tethering works - the vita just sees a WiFi hotspot. I've used it a few times with my android phone to get over the 20MB 3G download limit (I don't have access to normal WiFi at my wifes parents house)

Beautiful, so with only a wifi model, I can still be connected everywhere via a phone's wifi capability.

Just read this headline:
Research firm Media Create reports that sales of Sony's (SNE) PlayStation Vita plummeted after an initial two-day surge, with the firm only moving ~72K units the week before Christmas - marking a 75% W/W decline. Ongoing chatter about technical problems with the device may have contributed to the disappointing sales figures. Shares of SNE +1.2% premarket.

Is there a big problem with the devices?
