I agree. I like today's animation and art more than the 90s. Not sure if good stories help the industry though. Good stories don't mean shit when the audience is bad.

In terms of quality, I mean. I do understand that the audience isn't really receptive to those kind of works at the moment and it's much safer to take the typical fanservice/moe route.

I wish we could get an eva-level anime again. Nothing has topped eva, in terms of quality and industry impact IMO.

A note on Gundam.

Over the past couple months I've been watching various Gundam series. Started with Zeta then followed it up with a ten year-ish anniversary rewatch of Wing. Currently I'm making my way through a rewatch of 00. I'm really tempted to buy Unicorn. This has been a lot of Gundam to absorb in such a short span of time.

Counting the original MSG and SEED/Destiny in the mix, I'd have to say my favourite has been 00. Some of the story elements of 00 delve a little farther into science fiction than the other Gundam series I've watched. To me, that is a plus. This may be why I prefer season 2 over season 1. Comparing 00 to SEED I find the pacing to be much better. While I don't believe SEED is bad it did drag things out, especially in the beginning.

Prince of Tennis is pretty much at its worst/best right now. The sequel will tell you right away if it's for you or not, and I would even claim it's not a requirement to watch the 1st series because of how insignificant and generic it was.

Ah ok, well I hope it'll impress but again no harm no foul.

Happy New Year's eve animeGAF or New Year's as it may be already for some of you maybe. Here's to a whole new year of anime slowly dying and taking us all with it! Cheers!

I love mechas in video games and live action shows but I fucken hate mecha animes or any animes with mecha in them(I like mecha parody) .

Thats kind of a shame. I'm really not a fan of mechs at all but a lot of shows arent primarily mech shows, they are mixes of many other elements and just happen to feature mechs on occasion, like Escaflowne.

Ever try "Full Metal Panic!"? While it has mecha I would not say they are the main focus of the series.

Rebuild of Evangelion Q: Quickening - Fall 2012
Rebuild of Evangelion: (Final) - 2013

:D

The delays are going to be amazing

Will it still be a delay when no one expected it to come out on time anyway?

Also,

I think that is my least favorite of the titles.

I only started watching Fullmetal Panic, because I was looking for Fullmetal Alchemist and accidentally stumbled upon that, and even then the only reason I kept at it was because of the school parts.

I think that was the first show with mecha's in it that I ever tolerated.

FLCL - ALL

Steroyd doesn't do acid trips, but if he did, it'd probably be like watching FLCL.

Ponyo

Basically, it's what would happen if cajunator was in charge of an anime adaptation of The Little Mermaid.

Wait, I'm sure I've seen this scene before.

2 seconds later:

It was like he read my mind, had me rolling for 2 minutes.

Steins;Gate 03-04:

Christina is shocked at what she witnesses in the lab, shattering her theories as Okarin declares his microwave is a time-machine. Hacking into the SERN database reveals some of the shocking secrets of their experiments, but the rest is in ancient programming code that only the IBN 5100 can decode. I'm pretty sure the part-timer knows more than she's letting on, and I wonder how Mayushii is going to factor into all of this, or why she follows Okarin around everywhere when she's not working.

In a weird sort of way, I get a very Captain Tylor vibe from Okarin. Which would make Christina his Yuriko by the looks of it.

The teens in highschool part is strictly comedy, FMP fumoffu, is strictly awesome comedy without any mecha's at all. ♥

I would have been able to watch it 1 year ago and maybe even like it, but I've long become sick and tired of highschool in anime.

Mecha animes aim to kill your brain cells, how else can you explain the stupid writing and the retarded shit that goes on in them.

mecha animes= brain poison

just to let you know air gear is also brain posion

Except the animation gets crappier with each new cycle. Is the mange the second series of events then?

Mange?

I'm guessing the original TV series was the first series of events, and the original movies were the second series of events. Both had totally different outcomes, but I'm guessing the "right" outcome hasn't occurred yet.

Damn typos.
So 2013 and 2014 for Funimation? Ah feels so far away, but Im ready. Maybe when they finish they can finally blu-ray remaster the tv series.
That's up to Gainax, and hopefully it's sooner rather than later. I hope by 2013 Funimation can make a deal with Matt Greenfield to direct the dubs for the last two films. The dubs for the first two films were rather subpar.

What do you mean by the "right" outcome?

In the TV series,
Shinji chooses to live in the world of imagination or whatever, and in EoE he chooses reality, right? So i'm kind of lost on what you're talking about

I put "right" in quotes for a reason. I have no clue what it is. The "right" outcome is whatever is in Anno's twisted mind as the proper outcome that ends the Groundhog Day cycle. Until that happens, it cycles over and over.

I fail to see how the writing in mecha anime is any worse than the writing in other anime out there. They provide a form of fictional entertainment.

I still haven't bothered with watching 2.whatever. I'm afraid that Anno is gonna rape my childhood.

Fuck this cartoon.

Slam Dunk 61: Massive animation improvement. It's like Toei actually got paid money! What the shit.

The new OP is gorgeous.

Slam Dunk 62 & Slam Dunk 63: more stuff

Ah, I see.
As long as its a proper asuka ending, I don't care :3

Also, i'm probably in the minority but
I didn't like TTGL

Lol I like seeing all the OP videos of anime from early 2000's and people are saying "this stuff is so much better than what we have now". but then I realize that these shows are still 11 years old. Goddamn.
The worst part about all those early 2000s animu is the use of CGI in the weirdest of places. Princess Tutu is guilty of this.
He does/is.
I haven't watched the second Gurren Lagann movie either because I'm afraid Imaishi is gonna rape my late teenage years!
Christ was I bored just now. Found a bunch of Penguindrum images, decided they looked nice for avatars. Figured maybe someone here would want one. If not, whatever, only took like a half hour or so.
