Nisekoi

Apparently it's a universal trait that transcends country lines wheregirls act like blithering idiots just by being touched by a male. Why did I pick this up?

Claymore:

People with poor memory shouldn't really read monthly mangas as soon as they are out and instead just read them in huge blocks, it just make the manga less appealing or look bad to other people. I have no problem understanding this manga and D.Gray-Man, so am always surprised that people can't follow the story's progress.

It bothered me at first when I would see these type of posts every month for Claymore but honestly I can't blame people for not remembering. There just isn't anything important going on month to month right now to make each chapter "memorable". The endless battles, the "expendable" Claymore characters all looking similar with different hair styles/facial features, and the bi-weekly pacing doesn't help either.

I know what Miria meant and Clare's half awakening during the war in the north. I was confused b/c they were acting all surprised all of sudden as if Clare's transformation was something extra ordinary compared all the fights they had since with other girls with different fighting techniques and awakened abilities.

Funny how you go out of your way to explain by including pictures and all only to put insult at the end.

the only thing that comes to mind when i see Claymore is the fact that its done by the Angel Densetsu author and myself still being surprised by that info :P

lol you're a good man for getting someone to read OP, everybody should enjoy that series. Anywho here's my brief recap for now:

Luffy said:
I've set myself to become the king of the pirates... and if I die trying... then at least i tried!

This has got to be by far my favorite quote in all of One Piece. This quote will remain with me until I die, because I can't get enough of this. Luffy says this to Coby after Coby tells him its impossible to be King of Pirates. I was expecting Luffy to give the cliched "don't worry... I will become the King of pirates (insert shit eating grin) but no...!?! Luffy's goal is to become king of the pirates, and if he fails thats ok at least he's tried. Holy shit, what a character.

-The introductory chapters were pretty interesting. Which is surprising, since i'm the type of person to hate how a story starts.
-The early arcs were really good, especially the arcs concerning Sanji (Don Krieg) & Nami (Arlong)
-Sanji's flashback with Zef was really good, and his stubborn obsession with feeding someone who's hungry (even a criminal) is well supported by his previous character development.
-Nami pleading for help was one of the most touching scenes in OP. Luffy destroying Arlong parc and defeating Arlong was the perfect way to close the arc.
-There are less words on screen, meaning its easier to read the chapters. Conversely this also means they're shorter by default.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XFdW3esx10&list=LL4ExUuvYF3oSI73-O1cgnVw&index=22&feature=plpp_video (this video basically sums up my thoughts on Arlong park) Its by far my favorite arc during part I
-Speaking of Arlong, he's a really fucked up villain, like holy this guy is the devil.
-I think I like Oda's old designs for his characters better than his new ones (the new ones are still good) and this just isn't my nostalgia speaking. Back when female character designs were more distinct (and before every female had huge boobs)
- <3 Tashigi

The strawhats (then and now) are surprisingly intact. Apart from Nami, they barely change in appearance (before the timeskip) and they're personalities are static (this is a good thing.)

So all in all, re-reading One Piece was a great idea, its such a goddamn good manga so you'll never get bored of reading it.

So, um, 2011. Gonna end in an hour and a half here. Anyone wanna do a "best of" kinda thing? Just including things you started this year. It'll help pass time in the Jump drought!

2011 was the worst year of my life and all that but I still read a lot. My picks:

Cage of Eden
Lots of exclamation marks. That's about the best I can do to express myself here.

Hayate the Combat Gigolo
Godspeed, Hayate. You are the best thing.

Vinland Saga
Oh. Wait, what. But yeah. Yeah.

Buyuden
As far as sports go, between this and Karate Shoukoushi.. this one is pineapples with honey and lemon. Karate would be coconut-ish, y'know? Whatever!

I wasn't really sure if I started Blood Lad, Esprit or Shingeki no Kyojin this year, so that's that (I would totally put 'em there). Magico is a honorable mention because the powers are all sex and the ritual system is really fun.

As far as my memory goes, here's the full list of everything I started this year (I think), not including stuff I didn't like:
Eden, Hayate, Vinland, Buyuden, Magico, Karate
To Love Ru
Shaman King
Fukashigi Philia
Harisugawa
Nisekoi
Gamaran
EX Young Castaways
Kurogane
Domina no Do
Kannagi
Re:Birth

Silver Spoon is my best new series of the year. Beelzebub is easily the best comedy of the year for me.

TWGOK is the best TWGOK of 2011.

Cage of Eden was some good stuff. Not sure what it was best in. Best in boobs I guess. Karate Shoukoushi Kohinata Minoru for best manga with a long-ass name.

Top Five Manga of 2011 for me (no order):
1.)History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi
2.)AIKI
3.)Deadman Wonderland
4.)Genshiken Nidaime
5.)One Piece

Top five most disappointing Manga of 2011 for me (on order):
1.) Naruto
2.) Unbalance X Unbalance
3.) Hajime no Ippo
4.) Gantz
5.) Bleach (this last arc got it on this list)

Surprise Hits of 2011 for me (no order):
1.) Kono S o, Mi yo!
2.) Girls Saurus DX
3.) Mathematical Girls
4.) Prison School
5.) Kagami no Kuni no Harisugawa

Have any new Girl Saurus DX chapters been released? That series is so damn funny. I remember once having a coughing fit after laughing so hard because of that comic.

Punpun, Hachifukujin, Anamorphosis no Meijuu, I Am A Hero, etc.

Too much of a chore. I wish I maintained a list somewhere. :(

That said Yumekui Merry definitely had the cutest interpanel ignores-space-and-time brofist ever.

Same here. After a while, even I started confusing the claymores and got a bit disinterested in the action. The only ones I can bring myself to care about is Raki, Priscilla and Claire. And whomever happens to be carrying two swords, since she's the only one with a distinct cool look and style.

I also want to know more about the war and the different lands, but there literally has been nothing stated on that in what feels like a year.

They need to cut the cast in half and contain more content per month to get my interest back. I'll sadly keep reading every month in hopes something cool happens, but so far it's just someone awakening every chapter and new fight after new fight.

Yes. There are too many Claymores entering and leaving, their faces are too similar making it easy to misidentify them, their personalities are too similar, and their "special moves" are all too similar. In other words, they seem like derivatives of each other.

Best Manga of 2011? Reminds me when I wrote for a site stating that it was Fairy Tail and received backlash. (which had the most plot advancement this year).

I guess mine would be something like
1. Fairy Tail
2. Lucky Dog 1 Blast - nice art and character design
3. ST&RS - unique and innovative characters, to space is a nice frontier for manga
4. Naruto - epic action this year, and Itachi returned.
5. Reborn - I love the writer and even though plot points can be rage inducing or predictable she keeps me hooked. Oh and Tsuna.

I started Psyren this year which is great. Interesting cast (Oboro, Ageha, Kabuto) and power dynamics.

Adaptations of No. 6, Guilty Crown, and End of Eternity were fun, though mainly because I was a huge fan of the source material. No. 6 was really good.

And lastly, in the actual physical english releases front, I reached chapter 60 something of Bakuman which is wonderful, probably would be my favorite none battle manga at this point in time, if I ignore Spiral.

Ultimo and Tegami Bachi were highly underrated this year.

Accel World - Art issues aside, this was a shounen that had more to it then battle scenes. You actually feel for the characters.
Cage of Eden - After losing interest due to weekly animal fights and boobs (not such a terrible combo though), CoE has really picked up for me.
Kono Oneesan wa Fiction - What seems like a really silly low-grade series became quite a nice little read.
Maoyuu Maou Yuusha - A Spice and Wolf type manga with godly art? I'm fucking there.

Downward Spiral
Bakuman
HSDK
Kimi no Iru Machi
Negima
Nozoki Ana
Pastel
Umi no Misaki

Did I miss the discussion on Oresama teacher?! I'm currently reading it and it seems more like a shounen than i expected (even directly referenced in the manga...). How many gaf regulars read shoujo anyway?
Not many. I believe I posted about Oresama Teacher once.

I read these shoujo currently:
Dengeki Daisy
Kaichou wa Maid-sama!
Kimi ni Todoke
Koi dano Ai dano
Oresama Teacher
Red-haired Snow White
Reimei no Arcana
Suki-tte Ii na yo
Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun (very soon I'm starting)
Watashi ni xx Shinasai!

Feel free to talk about them. Red-haired Snow White is one of the best of the bunch and is VERY shounen. Arcana is also closely shounen and some elements of Daisy.

Shit just got real. The tug of war game was awesome especially how this one dude made them win. It's also funny how these 7 people arent all dead yet. They probably will soon but I hope the boobs girl lives. I need my damn fanservice.

I'm not liking this dude holding the controller shit.

The scanlations are really weird for this manga. They released the first 2 as a batch and they kept adding new chapters weekly. Then they stopped around 6 and all the sudden 5 more chapters.

I haven't read much this year but I did read Kekkaishi, which finished earlier this year, and I gotta say its one of my all time favorite series.

clares transformation was pretty extraordinary.
Rigardo was faster than miria, clare sliced him into a million pieces before he could even react.

Clare was attacking across a courtyard and rigardo still couldn't step out of the way without being hit.

Yeah I liked it but it could have done with some trimming in the middle. Just really seemed to drag to me when they were swapping around between Yoshimori and Masamori.

I actually really liked the switching, thought seeing what both of them were doing and the connections were kinda cool.

I liked the expansion of what we knew of the world that came from following Masamori but i dunno I think it would could have had a better flow to it story progression wise.
