Ring of Honor and Chikara could never have gotten started under the territory days. While it seemed like they were separate territories, the owners acted as a cartel and would send their top guys as mercenaries basically to one of the other territories to squash out any new promotions trying to establish themselves.

Not true at all. What would happen is you would have guys like Andre the Giant who had to disappear for months at a time to stay hot in the business, so they would travel to different regions of the United States to groups of people that haven't seen the wrestler before or for a long time. That way the wrestler would stay hot and improve business for all people involved.

It used to be a privilege to have the NWA send Ric Flair to your territory. Now he embarrasses you so much that you leave him stranded on the road, forced to beg his fellow rasslers to lend him money for a ticket home.

Yeah, but then you plan a match for 2 years and 2 weeks before the match you realize one of the wrestlers can't bump due to all the back surgeries they've had, so you tell Flair not to get shoulder surgery so he can come back and injure himself further for a paycheck to take bumps for the other wrestler who knew he couldn't wrestle, but wanted to be put over as the main guy on tv for the previous 2 years since coming into the company.

In what universe is Undertaker vs Triple H match of the year and CM Punk vs John Cena #2?

the universe where Triple H tells them to put his match at number one or he'll fire them all and let the broom make the website.

also the universe where the Undertaker comes back on Raw this Monday, so they bury the rest of their year to restart the HHH/Taker feud before HHH breaks the streak.

Vince is gonna do some insane shit once his network flops in 2012 and isn't Linda running for senate again in 2012?

It's widely accepted that if the WWE Network fails, the company is done. They're going into debt to start the Network and if it fails, WWE is kaput.

This is pretty much the most important investment Vince has ever made since the first WrestleMania and not enough people are talking about the potential damage this could cause if it fails.

The real question is whether Cena will buy the company back into safety and become the savior of the E' as we know it.

I just fantasy booked a companies chance of survival.

Exactly. And that's why it needs as many providers as possible. Because even the most causal fan will pay 10 dollars a months for the product they offer.

Be negative all you want, but I think the WWE Network can be a huge success. Who wouldn't pay a small fee for access to classic and new WWE.

Think of the possibilities too. What if WWE Network became a HUB for all other indie federations to air their programing; including Ring of Honor.

I think that's a great idea, but Vince's own ego will stop it from ever happening. If he doesn't make it, then he doesn't care.

Y... you're kidding right?

Maybe I just haven't been paying attention. Are they moving Raw and Smackdown to the WWE Network?

Do subscribers get to watch PPVs for free? What is the content that is going to pull all these wrestling fans to pay for this one channel?

Isn't Vince too much of a control freak for that? He'd want to change everything not just the production level of these indie shows.

Aren't they trying to get on a channel bundle that people aleady pay for(like the same one as ESPN) or something?

I really hope so, because I won't go out of my way to subscribe to this network, just to hope some old matches I want to see pop up.

The everything archived and you choose what you watch idea sounds great however.

Take me for example. I have only been watching modern WWE for one year literally. If I didn't get cable for free, I would easily change providers for whom ever carried WWE Network. That's just one guy's opinion, but I'm sure others, even casual fans, agree.

It really depends on how long of a commitment they want to put into the network. They are going to be bleeding money for atleast a few years. Ad rates will be abysmal and they are basically going to have to give the network away for free to get providers interested in having it join their channel listings. If you look at something like the NFL Network which is just now only having success after years and years or the recent Oprah network, which they had to give away free to providers for them to agree to air it and is considered a failure and has much higher demand than a WWE network, it will be very hard for WWE to succeed in this market. Classics on Demand is a failure and has been losing customers every month for the last few years and it will finally be shut down for good in the next few days. They are losing 2 revenue streams to start this thing up, the on demand channel and 8-9 of the yearly 13 ppvs, which will cause them to lose millions. The absolute earliest they could even hope to start turning a profit on this network is 2017 at best. Also, there really isn't that large of a group of people that want that much WWE content. Most people watch Raw and that is enough for them for the week.
