But what is the brighter picture? Evans said after the last game that the offense has no direction and the team doesn't know what is really expected from the offense. Tyreke has long been given a pass while others get blame. Hawes questioned things here and was traded. Casspi spoke up and was traded. I think Beno did as well.

This feels like Westphal's lockerrom revolt in Seattle, but with a lack of powerful veterans to organize it and carry it through.

Cousins has emotional outbursts, but that's good and bad. It's one thing to be a cancer that is a distraction to the team, but that cancer that is the team quietly accepting losing without emotion is very damaging as well. The players should be upset at the front office and coaching. It's a mess. The roster makes no sense, the players have learned nothing. Petrie talks about Cousins improving himself, but he is one of the few Kings that has. He's better on defense, he's in better shape and is causing chaos inside for the other team. He's just got one problem: finishing strong. Meanwhile, a guy like Tyreke is the same exact player he was as a rookie. Jason Thompson and Garcia still make dumb mistakes like a rookie might.

The most frustrating part is Westphal taking Cousins' anger and using it to try to save his job. If its true that it was an angry reply then I can't imagine anyone in the FO is dumb enough to take it seriously. They've already said they aren't trading him and didn't announce it as a trade demand to open offers, but to basically spite Cousins.

You ask maturity of him and yet you go about it in a petty way? The only reason you use the trade demand line in the PR if you aren't looking to trade him is try to turn people against him. What kind of shit is that?

Yeah that's what I don't get about this whole mess..

How hard is it to say 'suspended for conduct detrimental to the team'? The only purpose behind that press release was to make DMC look bad.

Is a public shaming of a player who it was reported last season felt he wasn't receiving equal treatment really going to help to bring him back on board? Seems more likely to just make him more angry and bitter.

Cousins is a hot head. Nobody wants to use the "C" word, but he's probably not the kind of guy others want to be around.

Westphal is out of his league in trying to coach this Kings team. Still he's right in suspending Cousins.

Cousins is tempting, too, but I fear he could do more damage than good on a young team like this.
 
I think Cousins would be fine playing with Rubio. I think most players would. You don't generally get disgruntled lockerrooms with pass wizard point guards running things.

But id get disgruntled, and the timberwolves players would get disgruntled, seeing Cousins shoot a terrible %, turn the ball over constantly and just play like a bonehead

Hell, we have like 4 players who already fit that description. We dont need another, even if he has a lot of 'upside'

Still waiting on AR's upside...

Yeah, I agree, Cousins is superfluous, it's going to take 5 years for him to eventually turn into a much lesser version of present day Zach Randolph.

One of the best things about Rubio is how his teammates genuinely like him, his game and his personality. It was very obvious yesterday, Mike Beasley just loves playing with him.

It was just flesh and fat. Im not saying it doesnt hurt and that I wouldnt have reacted the same way, but the doctor did a a good job as he didnt panic and was just like "shut it, gimme"

Thats the right call in that situation.

Uhh, because his efficiency is legendarily bad? Any player in the league can put up stats if you give them a million shots. Beasley and Al can score twenty points a game but are terrible and Cousins is far less efficient than those guys.

And it's also how he's played. He's playing like the same soft dumbass who every scout hated in high school (was rated as a fringe first-rounder coming out of high school). A guy who thinks he's really skilled from the perimeter but isn't effective at all from the perimeter.

I'm still not sold that Cousins plays on the perimeter because he actually thinks he's good out there but more because no one on his team can get him the ball with good position in the low post.

This is reinforced by his absurdly low assisted FG%(last year IIRC he had the lowest assisted % of all non PGs, and so far this season it has gone down, but thats a small sample size), and probably a large part of why he's so upset with the offense. Basically he gets the ball 15 feet out and is expected to beat his man in isolation, when that isn't his strength. His assisted % is highest on shots from 16-23 feet to show you where he typically is when he gets the ball. He doesn't get any easy baskets through the offense.

Not that this excuses him always going up soft for layups and trying to draw a foul instead of finishing strong, but it's an important piece of data.

Also, the mature, smart, rational thing to do would of course be to pass the ball right back when you get it in a position where you can't be effective, but he's not the first player to think that when someone passes them the ball they MUST do something with it..

This is all true and could explain some of it, but he shouldn't be trying to score 17 feet from the basket even if he gets the ball there and that's also bad decision making.

Yeah I agree 100% that he shouldn't be doing that, like I added he should just pass the ball back when he is way out on the perimeter. I just don't think it is because of some intrinsic softness or something, because he is dominating the glass so far this year.

What is also weird is that his is hitting 50% of his shots from 3-9 ft and from 10-15 ft, but only 36.4% of his shots at the rim. Small sample size again of course, so it's pretty meaningless, just thought it was odd. He is only hitting 18% of the 16-23 ft shots that we both agree he shouldn't be taking though.. ugh..

They are dead last in the league in assists, barely averaging 14, so it's hardly surprising, but it is still impressively bad. :D

Coincidentally they are also dead last in opponent's APG, which makes them even more impressively bad.

They give up 24.2 APG while only getting 14.2..
 
hmmm i kind of would like to see the cavs take a gamble on cousins. kyrie + cousins+ tristan would be a nice little core to have. byron could knock some sense into him too. but i doubt the kings actually trade him.

Cousins isn't at fault for his bad efficiency. At Kentucky he played around the basket exclusively and was the most efficient player in the nation. With the Kings the guards dominate the ball and only work it around the perimeter. So the only way a guy like Cousins can score is catching it from midrange and working his way to the basket.

Cousins isn't as dumb as guys are saying. He worked around the basket at Kentucky with no problems. This year he came in in much better shape even though there was a lockout and people thought he was going to be one of those guys that would come in overweight. Cousins looks like a guy that wants to play good ball more than anything else, which isn't happening in Sactown.

“He’s selfish,” one source close to the team said of Cousins. “He’s always angry or clowning. He needs to change. The Kings have been great about covering things up for him, and his agent has been protecting him.

“He’s always miserable. He acts like he’s entitled.”

Some players are disillusioned with the constant drain of Cousins’ tantrums, sulking and absence of professionalism. “He’s a bully, and they let him get away with it,” one source said. “No one wants to deal with the guy.”

Clearly ahead of him right now, and the guy is a compete headcase. The odds of him being the next bust are much higher than him being a top 3 C.

Pretty much every center in the league is clearly ahead of him right now, but I don't see why he couldn't pass all of those guys other than Dwight in two or three years if he reached his potential.
