Well, that's true for other shows besides Sailor Moon. Mazinkaiser has an episode titled 'Kouji Kabuto Dies in Magma!'. Yeah.

Still, nothing will ever top Dirty Pair episode titles. Here's a small selection:

"Do Lovely Angels Like Chest Hair?"
"Pursuit Has The Smell Of Cheesecake And Death"
"Hire Us! Better To Get Good-Looking Bodyguards"
"Gotta Do It! Love Is A Woman's Detonator"

Have you seen the titles of DEARS episodes or even Galaxy Angel?

Bandai Entertainment is done with anime.

Bandai Entertainment, the subsidiary of Namco Bandai Holdings (USA) that handles anime and manga in North America, will stop offering new DVD, Blu-ray Disc, and manga releases next month. It will continue to distribute in its existing catalog lineup, but it will no longer produce and distribute new releases as of this February.

Instead, Bandai Entertainment will focus on licensing rights to other companies, particularly in digital distribution, broadcast, and merchandising. The company will be restructured as a result, and most of its contractors and three of its five fulltime staff members will be laid off. ANN will publish an interview with Bandai Entertainment President and CEO Ken Iyadomi on Tuesday.

The following releases have been cancelled:
Anime DVD/Blu-ray Disc

Gosick
Nichijō
Turn A Gundam

Manga

Code Geass: Renya (Code Geass: Shikkoku no Renya)
Gurren Lagann volume 7
Kannagi volumes 4-6
Lucky Star Boo Boo Kagaboo (spinoff by Eretto)
Mobile Suit Gundam 00I
Tales of the Abyss: Jade's Secret Memories volumes 1 and 2

Nooooooooooooooooo :(

Moe isn't really a genre, so I don't think you can simply 'combine it' with a genre or style. You can take an emphasis on certain character types and designs and then meld that with a genre, which is an approach that a variety of shows have certainly taken.

Indeed. But that's not answering my question. If Evangelion were made today, would people be saying that Rei, Asuka etc. were moe characters, and that therefore it was infusing "moe" into mecha to have them in such a show? Or Ruri in Nadesico?

I suppose that Unknown's original point is that Xenoglossia, SoraKake, IS etc. are about the girls, who just happen to pilot mecha. Whereas the other examples just happen to have characters that one might consider "moe", but the emphasis is on other things.

Anime DVD/Blu-ray Disc

Turn A Gundam

Oh, bum! I never expected it to get released - I'd actually forgotten it was licensed - but I still lived in hope. Still need to watch more than the first episode.

Yes, yes you should as it looks like there's no point in waiting around any longer.

Well, it's completely it's extremely difficult to imagine the response of a theoretical audience, but I don't think so. At the very least Asuka actually gets some character development.

Moreover, as Evangelion popularised many of the character types that would then go on to be hugely popular it's difficult to think of how people would respond to these 'character originators'. I suppose that, theoretically, they might seem derivative.

Sengoku Basara: The Last Party -

All the best parts about the series - the bombastic, very gay, exceedingly flamboyant clashes between historical-warlords-turned-videogame-characters - tuned up even higher and with better production. Fucking amazing. Now this is a goddamn anime. The second half of the movie is pretty much just nonstop in your face fucking action, and overall it's silly, humorous, and thoroughly badass.

It's fucking Sengoku Basara so the writing has its faults (example: about ten minutes could easily be trimmed out of the first half of the movie, due to it being nothing but rather dull exposition), but who the fuck cares, it's fucking Sengoku Basara.

Honestly I think even people who didn't buy into the manliness of the TV series could watch this and enjoy themselves, although they'd miss out on all the subtle (lol) interplay between the characters, who you are assumed to already know about.

God dammit, I forgot about this. Definitely need to put my guns on.

Wait, you're kidding right?
No, the US BDs of K-ON really had 192kbps AC3 audio for both language tracks. Unacceptable. And disappointing, because I really really wanted to buy them. But I don't support substandard efforts.

The JP DVDs really actually did have far superior audio quality to the Blu-rays we got here. No joke.

Wow, that's some serious trolling. I mean, it wouldn't be the first (or last) time that a release was screwed up, but I'd assume something as popular as K-On would get good treatment. I guess they defeated reverse importation though!

Releasing K-ON! as volume releases instead of a box set was a dumb move. And what I heard of the dub was terrible.

It's actually quite interesting how many companies make bad business decisions (sometimes the same decisions that other companies that eventually collapsed also tried) and then go on to shut down, shrink or otherwise become irrelevant. I understand that it's a tough market and all, but damn.

Well, it's not like there aren't any companies growing to take their place. NISA is getting pretty active these days and they seem to be doing good with their business as their premium boxsets keep selling out. Sentai is also licensing tons of stuff these days too.

This is actually great news, means someone competent might get any license of theirs. Bandai was ok about a decade ago but they must have laid everyone off from that era as they're fucking idiots now.

When you see these companies making obviously poor decisions that will come back to bite them, you have to wonder how so many idiots were able to get into positions of power. Then again, it's easy to be an armchair analyst.

Motherfucker. So, where're down to Funi, Sentai, NISA and Media Blasters. I hope this means that they'll have Funi or Sentai take care of their stuff now.
You left out Discotek and Nozomi! I think Animeigo's out, haven't seen them grab an anime in years.

Uh, these character's have some really 'suspension of disbelief' shattering discussions. For example, in this episode
Haruka has just returned from being kidnapped and brought to the future in an alternate dimension where the human race is forced to live underground and where she was nearly made into a weapon. From this experience she shows no apparent trauma or concern. Her companion this episode is Yu, who has witnessed the robed-knights fly around and do battle with what looks like magical weapons. He should have lots of questions for her involving where she has been, who she was with and what the HELL is going on to space and time.

Instead they talk about what a bitch his mum is and never bring up anything important. It's kind of like, when they're in the 'normal' world it's all about being a kid and growing up and then in the 'other world' it's all about serious issues and never shall the twain meet. I mean, sometimes they do, but the link between them is not particularly 'smooth'.

Weird. This is exactly the kind of problem that Red Garden got around by having characters written in a believable manner. They dealt with their situation in a far more understandable way by having them actively react to it and discuss it among themselves.

They do that in like every anime. It's like no-one in the Japanese Animation business knows how to write a story where different characters know different things and disseminate that info in a believable way. It was the same in Asura Cryin's, main kid gets attacked by a magic wielding girl and robots that come out of the darkness, these are people from his school doing it by the way and heads to school like normal the next day, he's got no questions just wants to finish his homework and start fixing his home up or some shit. It's like this in everything. It's fucking maddening.

No!

192kbps lossy audio on a Blu-ray is atrocious. Their K-ON BDs were unacceptable. Even the JP DVDs had 1536kbps lossless audio.
Wait, really?

Unicorn is Bandai Visual, not Bandai Entertainment.

Sorry, you're still screwed!
How the fuck is Bandai Visual still functional then? *wikipedia* Oh, they publish directly out of Japan. That explains the shit pricing.

Fate Prototype

I can't understand shit.lol But from the looks of things its very interesting and it makes me wonder how things would have turned out with all the original ideas instead of the one we got.

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Ep.35

Doesn't matter because next episode is the important one; However, it did feature the sadest rendition of C'est la vie so far...

Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Ep.36
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, AVOID EPISODE TITLES!

What did I just witness? When did this show go from camp to full on badass?
They actually had a super power fight sans-cartwheels and with explosions galore!

The beginning of the episode had me a little unimpressed mainly because SOMEONE had hyped it up for me. It was later that everything paid off with the appearance of
mother fucking Princess Serenity/Princess Sailor Moon! I know that it was a unlock-your-inner-powers type scene but I couldn't help but get into it and awe in the glory of the princess.
They had only just set up the whole relationship (stalking) between Beryl and Mamoru the previous episode, so for it to go this far so quickly was actually welcome due to the show not always being the quickest in getting to major plot points.
The whole thing was emotionally exhausting.

The episode was littered with amazing reaction shots (real mamoru edited out to avoid spoilers)

Also,
NO ONE GAVE A SHIT ABOUT NEPHRITE DYING!

My more accurate feelings were seen on IRC, but that won't be shown here.

Clearly these folks were having far too much fun. That shouldn't be allowed in area as dull as episode naming!
I'll add to the Gintama list:

"Stress Makes You Bald, but It's Stressful to Avoid Stress, so You End Up Stressed Out Anyway, so in the End There's Nothing You Can Do"
"Don't Complain About Your Job at Home, Do It Somewhere Else"
"The Best Makeup for Women Is Their Smiles"
"When You're Too Absorbed in Counting Sheep, You End Up Not Sleeping Well"
"The More Delicious the Food, the Nastier It Is When It Goes Bad"
"Those Who Stand On Four-Legs Are Beasts, and Those Who Stand on Two-Legs, Guts and Glory, Are Men"
"Zip Up Your Fly Nice and Slowly"
"The Other Side of The Other Side of The Other Side Would Be The Other Side"

hey guys. I'm not that familiar with anime other than the super mainstream stuff like lupin and vampire hunter d. anyway, I just started watching trigun and am completely loving it. what are some good recommendations?
