Ugh, tell me about it. I have so many games lying around but I just can't be arsed and I haven't even finished Dark Souls yet even though I LOVED Demon's Souls like mad. :\

;_; My backlog scares me. Catherine, DA, Portal 2, Nier, FFXII... I'm dying to play Demon's Souls too. 2012: Year of Catching Up?

Man, that must suck to be working with your hobby so much it drains you of it :< Not that I wouldn't take a game translating position if I had the chance! I probably wouldn't be able to play any games I'd translated though. Too self-conscious.

Yeah. It's definitely fun to work the text in a game, but like anything, too much is bad for the overall desire to actually play. And, I did read on neo that you translate. Anything I've heard of? I'll bet you do freelance for Viz or TP back in the day. ;)

Don't remind me of my Backlog. I'm just starting to go through Gears of War 2.

Baby/kid week is something I could do
since I was much cuter as a kid.

I actually just found a bunch of pictures of me when I was a kid.

And since I don't wanna put my son on GAF, it'll be pictures of ME! Being all innocent and tubby.

I've got a backlog on every single console I own, including my phone :l Some games i buy day/week one, play 30 minutes of, only to never pick them up again. Hell, I bought a PSP for Peacewalker (even preordered PW) and only concluded that game's intro/tutorial, never picked it up again. You should definitely check out Catherine though, it's a really unique game with an interesting and mature plot.

Nothing I'd admit to! I work under pseudonyms, usually. It's only my personal work I'm happy to admit translating. Oh the things a translator has to do for money... at least I haven't had to pick up electronics manuals yet.

I'm a bit hesitant to play through timesinks like Skyrim and Dark Souls. I have the time to play now because I'm on break from college, but as soon as the semester starts for me again, I could see it becoming a problem. I've never been too great at balancing work and my hobbies >_<

Speaking of backlogs, anyone have a Backloggery? Here is my shame. I actually haven't updated since summer, so it is missing a few game purchases and game completions. I really need to get around to updating the thing.

RPGs? Yeah, you're not finishing them.

I totally go back and finish old RPGs. There are some on my list I don't plan on finishing though since they were unbearable.

And about half of my RPG list are half played. I'm just terrible about finishing them.

To me, the timesink of Dark Souls isn't so bad. I have no issue giving myself over to that game for however many months.

The problem is how uninterrupted play sessions of that game have to be. I have to block off an uninterrupted hour and that's unbelieveably difficult. If it's not work calling, it's my roommates doing things, or whatever.

Oh I see.

Well Vox needs to learn that waifu's don't magically fall out of the internet.

Then again, I'm not much better than Vox-Pop so I can't be too harsh on the lad.

You mean to tell me that's not how it works?!

That sounds horrifying. I put myself on hold and I'm not allowed to pick up anything else until I finish something. ANYTHING. Catherine I did play a bit of and I really like the theme/weirdness. I dislike Vincent intensely, however, and I enjoy it when he dies. Hard to beat a game game that way, though. :P

Backlog, pssshh. Steam infinite list of unplayed games says Hello.

You're in deeper than any of us, aren't you?

I pretty much gave up on my backlog. I'm never going to get through it.

I look at mine everyday and it looks back. O_O

Why so shy? Translation is definitely the bulk of the work, but usually there's an editor (like me) going over it, so any worries usually get cleaned up. But, yeah, I hear ya on the things we do for money. In lean years I copy-edited some strange stuff.

If you just put in 17 hours for the next 10 days you'll PROBABLY finish in time. ;)

I'm of the same opinion, I remember when I used to lament that games were getting shorter and shorter (Under 20 hours?Bah!) due to production costs, but now that seems like a blessing with how much I've got on my plate.
Nier can be really divisive (I know people who outright hate the game), but it was one of those "I will never play another game in my life quite like this" titles for me.
Totally agreed. That game was janky as fuck, but I enjoyed the variety it tossed at you, and the game was quite emotional. It was one of the few titles to ever actually make me genuinely feel something towards the plight of its characters. Killer twist as well.

I'm pretty sure Vox is a joke character.

12 or 13? If 12 that's a good six years or so LTTP. :lol

My backlog consists of 2010's novemember/holiday series of games. I still have to go through Uncharted 2, I just got the third for xmas. I blame a re-kindling of WoW interest, and now Swtor. I did manage to fit in Darksouls in there though, I have to say Goty right there. More of a time sink for me then Skyrim was.

It's not so much my own translation work that I'm embarrassed about, but the books that I've worked on that I'm embarrassed to admit translating! For example, I'm currently working on yaoi titles... when I'm not into it at all. I'd much prefer working on games or novels anyway, but there just aren't as many jobs available in those positions as there is for manga.

A week before the show aired HBO had the Iron Throne in select cities and you could come get your picture taken seated on the throne. The full pic is pretty sweet:

HOLY ADORABLENESS, BATMAN. Fucking awesome, gutshot.

I'm working, that's what. I'm so burnt out on games that when I come home I don't want anything to do with them, and by the time the weekend rolls around I'm too daunted to pick up the more intensive ones like DA. :/ Vicious cycle. I do like what I've heard/seen about it, though...

story of my life. story of my life.

oh, Jason is bringing the JENGA for our E3 outings.

I've basically given up on my backlog. 2012 is a new beginning. I'm only keeping a few games on my backlog. Stuff like Dragon Age and Baldurs Gate 2, you know, the short games

What can I say? I'm a world class procrastinator. (H.Procrastinator...?)

My solution to my backlog is watching other people's playthrough on youtube. It's practically the same thing.

I've done this before. It does soothe some of the non-playing anxiety.

Ahhh... haha. I see what you mean. I had to work on those too and stuff like Ikki Tousen. Hell, they had a tour going around the office one time (back when I worked for TP) and the group stopped right next to me and were looking over my should as I edited out typos during a page of some vigorous girl-on-girl scissoring. My face was so red. :P As for better titles, have you ever done hobby translating then shopped out your translation to companies?

First or second edition? I got the second edition hardcover a few weeks back...but I havent really flipped through it too much. Was it hidden in the book, or did I just luck out?

It was part of the packaging. It's the second edition trade paperback even though I asked for the third edition hardback :/

I hate looking at my backlog. I had a big Steam section named Backlog but after a while I just stopped adding games to it. Luckily I don't have much in the way of console game backlogs.

I buy too many games. The raichus in here won't appreciate it, but my copy of Pokemon Black is still sealed. I bought it in June or July, lol.
