Good shows means everyone has to wait a week before they have something new to talk about. Bad shows means people are free to watch whatever and whenever.

Okay, watched this now. I have to concede that it must really boil down to the show's restoration. Either way, it's still true that older shows clean up for HD MUCH MUCH MUCH better than the early generation of CG colored, digital anime.
Anime doesn't really get "restored", because anime companies are cheap. What matters is the age of the telecine, the quality of equipment used (a telecine being new doesn't count for shit if it's done on aged equipment!), and where it was taken from (OCN, interpositive, internegative, or a random print several generations removed from the OCN that they had lying around, etc) and what sort of film the show was shot on (16mm vs 35mm)

What is OCN?

Good in the sense of being very well made, but ultimately silly, trash.

At least it's well made silly trash, unlike most Shaft "Shinbo" shows, which are just silly trash!

Disclaimer: it may still turn out to be a Shaftish show, we don't know yet if the staff blew up all their load in the first episode.

At this rate Gothicmade will actually come out before Despera.
Man, at least they made available for purchase a Gothicmade t-shirt, bag and key-chain at this past Comiket 81 (http://comptiq.com/comike81/indexgot.html)... wow!

Sad situation, really, because otherwise I would have been so excited for the future Aim for the Top 2! Diebuster Blu-ray release...

Mayo Chiki! 02:

Watching hundreds of episodes of animé through a long period of time can change Baka Gaijin. People are first astonished by the myriad of fetishes the medium provides: panty shots, side boobs, tsundere, kuudere, yandere, meganekko, nekomimi, etc. After a while, such elements become irrelevant to one's enjoyment of Japanese cartoons. And then, if one dares to venture further, it is possible to discover that the fanservice does not have to be detrimental to a show's quality. One may become able to enjoy that fanservice.

This is my story. I'm afraid to declare that I've long left the point of No Return behind me. Mayo Chiki! is, simply put, genius in animé form. It plays to every fetish I could possibly think of and it does it in style. It may even be a didactic piece on the nature of inter-gender relationships, for it teaches us that the quickest way to make a girl fall in love with you is to do humiliating and emasculating things for her sake.

Truly the voice of our generation.
I have a confession to make. I am... actually... CG. :(
But you feel so real.

I went through this myself when I watched Mayo Chiki. I originally stopped watched, but after a few weeks resumed and found myself enjoying it as it played to nearly every fetish. Well, that and Eri Kitamura <3

I dub this post "Dr. AnimeLove, or how I stopped worrying and learned to love the moe"

Char > Subaru.

Anyhoo, seems like Natsume is starting off with another arc... which is strange, because I was almost hoping for more episodic stories full of ghost moe and suggestive BL.

I like that Cajunator and Jexhius take their time to reply to most of the posts, you'll rarely see a potential discussion turned away in this thread <3

Well put. Mayo Chiki! is one of those shows where fanservice feels so natural rather than forced. The quality of the show drops a bit near the end but it's still great. Oh, and it helps that the main character isn't a pansy nor does he spit embarrassing lines.

You might as well make it comprehensive:

- Opening shot is on Madoka’s ass.
- Madoka strips down to swimsuit for more fanservice.
- Madoka still in swimsuit at school even though she could have changed.
- Sexual abuse sensei.
- Ass shot in classroom scene.
- Tennis fanservice .
- Skirt drop/clothes removal coupled with camera panning over body slowly.
- ‘Panties off’ and 'inspection'.
- Shower scene with shots on breasts and ass.
- Rei’s uniform every time its on screen.
- Special ass shot of Rei’s uniform.

I see you've expanded your reaches from What's in a panty-shot?.

Eh, that required work and writing and maybe even thinking. This is just a list based off of observation, so it just required a little bit of time. The show is extremely overt, so it's hard to miss.

More than a bit. It gets to be incredibly bland and directionless after the first few episodes. I don't think there's a lot of understanding of the fanservice or fetishes on display, they're more just thrown in and don't have much done with them.

Truly the work of a feminist. It's okay to be a weakling as long as you have good intentions. Stronger and more important women around you will protect you and finish your unfinished business for your useless dick-stick body! And don't forget to pleasure every one of their wanton desires even if they put you in life-threatening danger!

Girl Power!

I agree, but they don't come out very forced for a shounen-romance-harem. I don't feel the need to cringe when there's fanservice and it all feels like part of the package rather than something tacked in.

But yeah, it does feel directionless from the middle to the end. Would've been great if it got 26 episodes.

How could I forget that Mayo Chiki is a 12 episode anime that lasts for 13 episodes? It's just so weird.

[Red Garden 10]

Look, characters reacting to situations in ways that vaguely make them seem human! Success!

This is one of those episodes where it doesn't look all cheap and awkward, hurrah. Featuring such success as:

Elaborate hair (that isn't animated):

2D Cars:

And lazy, unimaginative background art (at least all the characters have great hair):

So, uh, how would making it longer help?

They wouldn't need to compress a lot of the story. The anime ends in a shitty way (In the middle of volume 5 of the LN,
with a date with the blond chick.. who's barely important to the story
) and the story takes a more dramatic turn after that in the novels as well, so I think it could've been better.

So, uh, how would making it longer help?
Maybe with a few more chances they would have gotten out another couple of enjoyable episodes? I dunno.

There's clearly a larger story at play there but they just seem to notice that twelve episodes isn't really enough with all the fluff in the show, so they just kind of say "nuts to it, we'll just wrap things up incomplete here." At least more episodes would probably get more of that story told.

At least two episodes had the whole "trip into exploding clothes" thing but otherwise, yeah not as bad as the first episode implied.

Well, it's not like there aren't any companies growing to take their place. NISA is getting pretty active these days and they seem to be doing good with their business as their premium boxsets keep selling out. Sentai is also licensing tons of stuff these days too.

The companies in place now are pretty good although Sentai is super cheap.
I fear for the success of NISA due to the expensive way they package anime and how niche those particular shows are. Unfortunately i see the out within two years.
Motherfucker. So, where're down to Funi, Sentai, NISA and Media Blasters. I hope this means that they'll have Funi or Sentai take care of their stuff now.
Nozomi is pretty good and they have the success of rightstuf to help support it.

See the above link for newer stuff and here for older stuff. A short list of my personal recommendations for anyone to check out would be:

Baccano!
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (both seasons)
Haibane Renmei
Legend of the Galactic Heroes
Master Keaton
Millennium Actress
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket
Mushi-shi
Whisper of the Heart

This is a great list and no im not being sarcastic. Particularly pleased to see Millenium Actress on there.

Natsume Yujincho Shi 1

Nyanko-sensei! I'm kinda disappointed that it started out with an arc instead of an episodic episode as I usually find the latter to be more enjoyable. Saying that, the production values seem better than last seasons and the ED's as charming as usual. Most importantly though it's more Natsume, hell yes!

I was pretty bored of mayo chicken after two or so episodes.

I just looked this up later on. Probably the highlight of that show.

Yeah, Millenium Actress is one of the few anime that made me cry, not the "cheap trick to jerk tear" like Kanon.

Mawaru Penguindrum 10- END

I knew it, great setting, so-so plot, intentionally mixing the story element to be as confusing as possible to keep people interested, it is like last 2 episode of Evangelion TV show, except this take up last 12 episodes of the show.

Let's inserted as many plot twist as possible so no one can guess the ending! Oops, we don't know how to conclude the story due to all the plot twist we put in, so let's make a
memorable magic touching bittersweet
ending. Yes, I am sure somehow, someone in the internet will link all the plot together for us! I mean, if it works for Kanon, it will work for us too!

Well I guess it was not all that bad, I mean up to episode 15 I thought this would be one of the best anime ever. There are great character development, back-story, and fair motive for their action and behavior. Too bad everything just went downhill afterward, they tried too hard to make this standout as much as possible.

Guess I will try Tiger & Bunny next...

If you're looking for an anime that doesn't rapidly descend downhill after about episode 15 or so then Tiger & Bunny is pretty much the last anime you'd want to watch.
