I've always thought that you could build a pretty substantial profile of an individual just based on what they willingly divulge on internet forums. For myself on gaf alone... apart from just recently showing my face, if someone went through my posts they could learn a lot about me. But yeah, I fully expect to see my face used in promo material for a sketchy dating site or something.
Anyone get the feeling that this is what gaf gold must feel like? I like it.
Also, I could only imagine if I was a female on this forum finding out there are so many girl-gaffers hanging around, must be nice.
Yeah, i'm not sure. This will either propel NeoGAF into Facebook levels or destroy it.There are definitely more on gaf than I was led to believe, and I'm glad. Everyone warned me about this crazy place, but it's been fun/civil so far. Meeting lots of cool people.
As for posting stuff, someone earlier (or Opiate?) suggested that having our real pics might lead to more cordial and well-thought out posting. They were both right and wrong.

It's not the problem of accountability that bothers me so much, it's just that I feel kind of uncomfortable looking at myself for extended amounts of time. I don't want to see my face multiple times in one thread.
The "post your pics!" thread was more than enough for me.
I personally think that removing anonymity tends to affect your responses to any given poster, moreso than an existing reputation would. If it makes people polite, it's great, but it could also come with certain posters' contributions being (de)valued because of their physical appearance.
It's a fun thread and I'm not trying to drape a wet blanket on it, mind you.

It is really nice to see more girls and it's particularly hilarious in topics specifically about women issues and all these guy avatars. Just gotta laugh.
I'll admit that I used to lurk way way more before Devolution started posting. I'd write up these posts in response to some of the terrible sexist shit people would say and then I'd just never post them because it felt so lonely. But then Devolution started posting everything I was thinking and now I'm kind of a Devolution fangirl. I don't mean to be a creep, Devolution.
And yeah, posting in the Gaming side is kind of weird now or in a thread where there aren't that many people with real avatars...

I have overestimated Creepy-Gaf.
Other horrible unmoderated poisonous forums I used to frequent before Gaf were mostly people using real pictures so I'm pretty used to posting a long side my own face. But I never did with Gaf cause it took my like a year to be approved by this forum and I value it greatly and didn't want to bring my bad habits from others along with me. It always seemed to be more about the discussion than the poster on Gaf which I like.
