Romance-centred plots work because of the chemistry between the individuals. The moment you introduce a bajillion vertices to the love polygon you have to focus almost exclusively on the sexual/superficial elements of the relationship. It comes across as artificial because of the bare-bones execution.
Somebody may have made it work before, but I certainly don't know of such instance.
This makes me realise, are G-strings taboo in Japan or something?

As I've said, the expectations are low and are accepted as is. Until there is a bigger demand for more than that, what you're witnessing is the acceptance of manufactured romance in what is already a very derivative genre.
In truth, what you've said becomes a bigger truth as the bigger fanbase is the comedy and fanservice offered. I just disagree those seeking romance are minuscule in comparison.

I think I had the same feelings during those episodes too but fortunately bored feelings didnt last long.
Yukiatsu ended up being my favorite character over time

In this show, every fight is a Bra and Panties fight. Nevertheless, the fights between Aika and Rie and the Commander were enjoyable, as was President Awesome's drunken karaoke brawl sequence.
The lack of bishie mad scientisto and his psycho imouto in this arc really hurts it story-wise. Yeah, there actually was something of a story in the first "season" of episodes 1-4. Without a story to balance out the shameless fanservice, the whole second "season" manages to feel rather desultory rather than glamorous. Well, I guess I'll finish off the original series at least.
After that, there's Aika R-16 Virgin Mission, which is 3 episodes when Aika was 16. The fanservice is just plain funny when Aika's supposed to be 26 years old. At 16, it's probably going to feel a bit dirty. Just a bit, not very much, I've been watching anime far too long to feel that dirty about that kind of thing anymore, especially since everyone always looks the same age in anime.
Then there's Aika Zero, which was made in 2009 and that I suspect will actually have a natively 16:9 aspect ratio and be in HD. I can enjoy my last round of shameless fanservice in 1080p. Hooray for technology's inexorable forward march!

This whole thing started because you guys were trying to tell me that there was a lot of fanservice in Rinne no Lagrange. Well, now that I've seen The Original Super Pantsu Show, I can safely say that there isn't a lot of fanservice in RnL compared to this. The problem is, this show basically set the bar for maximum fanservice, if I actually counted the number of times I saw pantsu I would definitely easily double or triple the count of times I saw pantsu in Ikkitousen. That's a lot of pantsu.
Anyways, I saw lots of pantsu. I saw pantsu from almost every angle it is possible to see pantsu. I also saw boobs from many angles. It is possible that I will never again be able to say that a show has a lot of fanservice compared to Agent Aika, because there isn't one.
I need a break from seeing pantsu and boobs. Once you've seen this many, they tend to lose their enjoyment factor. I need to pace myself and watch fewer pantsu and boobs at once instead of marathoning my way through. I'll pick up Aika R-16 tomorrow I guess.

Well they're pretty funny dubbed but it's more of a communal experience so watching it solo might not work.
Well if you are going to brave those shows, then dubs are the only way to go. Enhances the experience ten fold.
