I'm gonna buy the 3G, and probably never use that function, like my iPad 2.
me as well. i figure that at least i'll have that option should i want it in the future.

the main selling point of the 3g model was the gps support. there may be games that require gps that either don't play on the wifi only model or play better with the 3g model.

hm. rayman and lumines $40 each on newegg.

got to sort out my games now.

think i got my day 1 stuff now

Amazon

Hot Shots Golf
Touch My Katamari
3G/Wifi Vita

Newegg

32GB Vita Card
Lumines

Total: $540.

Not bad.

Why is anyone preordering games? There's a good chance there will be a sale during launch.

Don't know if this has been covered before, but on the canadian sonystyle website (link) the bundle seems to clearly indicate it is the 3G version. With a price of $299.99 CAD, that's the same price the 3G standalone will probably go for..

I sent an email asking for confirmation, so we'll see what happens

EDIT: way old but I finally got confirmation that the bundle on the store.sony.ca does NOT include the 3G version. I've asked them update the website to make this clear, we'll see if anything happens.

Does that cradle have a charger attached, or a pass-through for the standard USB charger?

pass through. plus a line out for audio. Doesn't come with a cable though.

I've ordered a cradle plus spare cable from Play-asia. Will use the standard charger + cradle for normal charging, and the spare cable for USB transfer.

Does the PS3 provide enough charge to charge it while its on? I wouldn't have thought so - it'll just have standard USB ports. So having a cradle connected to the PS3 is really only for syncing, and for that you use the vita for control so I'd prefer to have it in my hand.

I'd have liked for them to have a cradle with separate charge/sync ports, so I could have it connected to the mains for charging, and use it for syncing when my PS3 is on.

network operators need to start providing 'all in one' data packages, so you have have SIMs in multiple devices, all feeding off the same tariff. There are more and more 3G-enabled devices these days, and it seems crazy to have separate contracts for each.

Thanks, I'll probably get one for home (although it'll be with me at work during the day, would actually make more sense for me to have it here).

Yeah I'd love this as well. My Three iPhone contract is unlimited data anyway. As it stands I'm probably going to get the 3G model but not use the 3G, just tether to my phone.

For all their effort to make some huge impact with their launch line-up, I dont see a single game that interests me.

More worryingly, it seems that since they've put so much into their launch or launch window line-ups that they dont seem to have announced much for later on. I think the port/remake of Final Fantasy X is the only thing that I'd really like.

I was watching some videos on the Vita and I didn't realize how awesome the capabilities and features were, but after discovering it wont have shit for games, I think I'll be returning to Nintendo again for a handheld.

So, do you like games in general? Because really, your tastes have to be exceedingly narrow if you don't see a single game in the OP that interests you.

I have the official cradle and I think it feels a little cheap for the price I paid.

There'll be some unofficial alternatives on the market soon.

Is it all plastic? Does it have any weight to it? What makes it feel cheap to you?

I was thinking of picking one of these up as I use the cradle for my phone all the time.

On the note of cradles/stands - the pouch that comes in accessory pack doubles a surprisingly neat stand, it's actually first time I got an official pouch that I like.

Ok, there's games that 'interest' me, but none that I really want. I'm not like some of you guys who spend $1000's of dollars on gaming each year and accumulate huge backlogs of merely 'ok' or 'decent' games.

The closest thing to a 'must-have' on the Vita that I've heard of so far is Final Fantasy X and I've already played that a couple times on the PS2.

Its just not enough. I need 'must-own' games if I'm gonna plop down the investment for a new system. Especially a handheld that costs the same as a PS3 and has pretty much nothing announced for the future.

I think it looks okay but it's all plastic. The front is kind of a faux brushed steel. It doesn't have much weight to it and there's straight up two holes in it. The Vita sits on the connector and two plastic rails.

I'd say it's just functional.

Not my picture, but you can see what I mean from this back shot:

Another thing, you can operate the touch screen okay with it in the stand but pressing buttons moves the whole thing. Not great.

can't you just use your fingers resting gently on the back to stop it moving? I'm not sure you're supposed to be heavily using it while in the cradle anyway.

Although whenever I see a cradle I always start thinking of a chumby-type information screen. So eg when in the cradle and on AC power, don't switch the screen off and just show me info like notifications etc.

Yeah, you can always hold the back to stabilise it.

Your notifications idea would work fine but the auto sleep option only goes to 5 minutes. You can't just leave the Vita always on.

You'll be able to see the PS button light up (Wii style) when the screen is off though.

Pretty sure poster is waiting on either Madden, Grand Theft Auto or Akai Katana.
If I want to play Madden, I'll play a far superior version on a console. I do 98% of my handheld gaming at home.

I didn't like the DS version of GTA, but I admit I'd be pretty interested in a Vita-exclusive GTA game.

And I have on idea what Akai Katana is.

looks like vgp is carrying some of the accessories. They dont have the 32gb available though

Makes me wonder if they're struggling to produce these in high quantities, or just didn't expect them to be very popular so didn't produce many. Also absent from the EU release as far as I can gather.

Man, the closer we get to release, the less and less enthused I get. I was going to day 1 it back when I assumed there would be an Monster Hunter for it. After that fiasco, I still panned to get it but lately, more and more, I'm having second thoughts. Love the system itself...just worried about developer support.

It seems like most developers are taking the wait and see approach which is pretty much a catch 22. It'll definitely be up to Sony to produce significant content unless most developers just start porting PS3 games.

I feel like one of the main reasons Monster Hunter moved to the 3DS is so Capcom can just reuse their standard definition textures. I think if Monster Hunter was on the PS3/360, we would have gotten it on the Vita. Though I guess the Vita could still probably get a Monster Hunter Portable 4th or whatever.

Yeah that's what I've always thought is the reason for the switch to 3ds. Capcom would rather be lazy and continue to use old graphics. I'll probably end up preordering it anyway I guess. It will be great for my old MH games and hopefully it'll get some PS2 ports if nothing else.

I actually would have considered Monster Hunter (never played one before) for the Vita because it seems like a game that would play better with twin analogues. Maybe I'll look towards the 3DS one down the line, assuming the rumoured redesign appears (not interested in the franken-stick thanks!), and that a Vita version doesn't seem likely.
