The shorter engage is far more important than the shorter throw.

Ahhh, yes, that makes perfect sense. The HRAP was my first stick, so I'm not an expert, but yeah, looking at what the two terms means, short engage is exactly what I need to help my loli's avoid the bullet hell.

ASOTY for me is the eightarc Fusion line. You get the excellent out of the box features of the Qanba Q4, dual-modded and felt bottom, without the tackiness of the art and handle. Plus, the Fusion-Ivory is absolutely gorgeous!

That's hot. It also doesn't have a start button to the right of the other buttons, which is another thing I nitpick about my Q4RAF.

Why do some of these sticks have turbo? Is there a real use for it? I never even used turbo on my NES advantage.

If I end up opening the VX-SA for any reason I think I'll just disengage them or something, I wish I could "lock" them or something.

Just picked up a HRAP VX-SA. Had a chance to get one locally rather then all the online nonsense and I just couldn't pass it up. Sorry Markman, you guys make beautiful products, but for $140 I couldn't pass this up, I love the look of the HORI's.

This thing is GORGEOUS!!! Def a bargain compared to my HRAP EX (which I got BEFORE SF4 genre revitalization, and they were impossible to get) which I paid MORE for, and it had crap Hori buttons that I had to replace.

I love the size and feel and look of this stick, I'm so happy.

Question. I'm thinking about turning the old HRAP EX into a SHMUP stick. Can I just modify the gate for less throw, or would I be much better off changing out the JLF completely to a different joystick?

No need to apologize. Glad you got a quality arcade stick ;)

And to answer your other question. I'd drop in a Seimitsu stick.

MarkMan, are there going to be restocks of the TE-S sticks or were they supposed to be a limited edition?

Which TE-S sticks?

hmmm

I guess I'll wait for amazon to get the SC5 TEs for dat $4 one day shipping

In rare cases there might be a shooting game you might want to use autofire for. That's the only real application I can think of, and most modern STG lt you toggle autofire without the need for turbo using the control configuration anyway.

The SCV sticks are up on amazon now and will be shipping soon.

Also, I know about the whole turbo thing. And the story will probably bore you guys lol.

have a friend that has a TE ps3 and he wants to dual mod it. I remember I had a gaffer dual mod my stick on here. I think his name was akuma001, is that correct?

It's more difficult to do than dual-modding a 360 stick, to be honest. akuma001 would definitely be able to help. There's also the stick modding region thread on SRK if you want to find someone in your area to do it.

I agree. It's almost perfect. I have just one minor nitpick. The buttons and stick are a little too far left of center. It's a bit awkward having to angle your right hand in compared to almost every other stick, including their ISO sticks. The leftmost buttons are usually lined up with the center screw on others.

Well, that and that the Ebony version looks better all black instead of w/ white buttons and stick.

There's no denying the EightArcs look real nice, but personally I'm not sure if it's worth paying the $35 extra over the standard Q4. And I actually like how this looks, but I might be in the minority here:

2011811174921632__52263_zoom.jpg

Not as nice as the EightArc but still nice, and $35 less.

Regarding the Eightarcs, the advantage or cost mark up is because of the start button being relocated to a miniaturized button on the top right console, felt bottom and discarding the handle.

I didn't mind paying that premium. I think the standard Qanbas are great, but the start button placement is illogical. If you're in a tournament, I can see occasionally mistakenly hitting it. And I don't have the time or patience to jerryrig a solution.

I just wish the Eightarcs used the same wooden casing as their system specific sticks.

You could install one of Toodles' Cthulhu boards, then. Assuming the internals of the Tatscap stick are the same as the SE, there should be a couple of pegs with holes you can use to mount the Cthulhu pretty easily. If you carefully slice off and separate the wires leading to the built-in Wii PCB (keep track of which wire connects to which button/direction!), you can strip them a little and use them with the Cthulhu's screw connectors. If you add a spare piece of wire between GND and Home terminals, you can get a Home button by pressing Start and Select together.

It's a bit more work, but you can keep using the controller you're used to, and it's probably still cheaper (even including an evening's labor) than buying a brand new one. And if you spend the couple extra bucks on an MC Cthulhu, you leave the door open to making your controller compatible with older systems as well. 360 is still a total pain, though.

So this is easy to do? The TvC stick's wires are all color coded, so I would just cut them free of the Wii PCB and screw them into the right Cthulu connectors? What about the USB wire, the jack on the Cthulu would not be flush with the outside of the stick so the wire would just stick out from inside the case?

The black and white Super Street Fighter 4 TE-S sticks for PS3. The Gameshark store and Amazon are out of stock.

We probably won't be making more of the TE-S ones for PS3. They are currently only available in Japan. We'll have other PS3 sticks out eventually though.

What's up with the hate for the Start button being on the face? I've been bashing my VLX premium for months and I have never hit that button using Blanka and Honda doing hands and electricity. MIGHT be an issue with Gen players, but nobody plays Gen unless you all do.

Can't wait until the SC5 TE ships. I'm excited cuz of aesthetic mod value. And a different button layout would be neat.

still i can see why. i have a vlx also its no problem but the qanba looks a lot closer in comparison.

I own both the VLX and Qanba. While the Qanba start button is definitely closer I've never had any problems accidentally pressing the start button nor has anyone who asked me to use it. I really don't think it will be an issue unless you're hands spaz out that much while playing.

MarkMan, please check your PMs. Long running game convention in the midwest would like to approach MadCatz about getting in on our fighting game tournaments this year.

So quick poll for the rest of you. I would like a nice TE but am not sure which one to get. I'd like a cool limited run like the Namco TE S, but I can't dual-mod anything unless its solderless. So basically, I need a 360 stick. How many limited editions have there been of these? I can only think of the BlazBlue and Femme Fatale. Have there been others? Do any of you feel it would be better to just get a standard TE and go with custom art? I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

For 360:

Femme Fatal
Blazblue White
San Diego CC
Chun-Li
Street Fighter X Tekken
Mad Catz Japan TE (kinda, sorta counts)

Think that is all of them...Evo Gold and Namco are PS3 only.

If you haven't stripped a wire before, you might want to practice on some spare before you cut them off the Wii PCB, but it's not a very tricky procedure. The Cthulhu jack won't be anywhere near the exit of your case, but that's fine, since you can leave the USB cord plugged into the Cthulhu inside the case for now. You should be able to remove the Wii cable from the case and route the USB cord through the hole it was originally in. Make a loop in the cord (not a tight knot, just a loop) near where it leaves the case if you want to prevent strain on the Cthulhu board.

This would be easier to explain if I had pictures on-hand. I'll find some later when I'm not at work.

Hmm. The only one I really dig on is that Namco TE S. But I'd have to send it somewhere to get modded. I guess a standard TE is where its at then.

Is there a FAQ where I can learn the differences between all the TE models? Rd 2, S, etc.? *nvm Found it at Shoryuken in the Tech forum*

I think the TEasy is solderless. You can drop that into most of the TE sticks. Isn't Toodles new Kitty boards also solderless mostly too?

Moofers, I'll reply soon. Sorry I don't GAF as much as I used to :(

Its cool! I'll settle for knowing you got the message for now. :D

And are my eyes playing tricks on me, or has the stick been moved more into the center on the SCV stick compared to previous TE models? Maybe its just the angle of the photo?

The stick and buttons are actually a bit farther apart since it uses the exact layout of the Namco Noir arcade cabinet.

Also, just in case you guys don't know about the SCV FightStick....

Authentic Japanese-style Joystick & Buttons

B006EJ38X2_scv_stick_x360_01.jpg

This competition-ready SOUL Edition FightStick uses high-quality Sanwa parts, the very same parts that are found in Japanese arcade cabinets. The Sanwa JLF is the standard in high-quality, tournament-grade FightSticks.

8-Button Layout with Multi-Speed Turbo Functionality

B006EJ38X2_scv_stick_x360_02.jpg

Eight Sanwa action buttons help ensure easy access to every strike, kick, guard and combo. Multi-speed Turbo functionality gives two distinct turbo speeds that can be mapped to any one of the action buttons on the FightStick, and these Turbo settings can be monitored on the control panel, and even disabled for tournament play.

Premium-Quality Components with Genuine Namco Noir Layout

The eight-button Namco Noir layout offers a comfortable, ergonomic control scheme, reminiscent of SEGA's classic Astro City configuration. Sanwa OBSF-30 action buttons respond with pinpoint accuracy and can withstand repeated use.

Controller Lock/Unlock Switch

A lock switch on the control panel provides the ability to lock out the use of Turbo functionality and prevents use of the Xbox Guide button. No more accidental pauses or automatic forfeitures in key moments during tournament matches!

3-Way Joystick Switch

A useful three-way switch provides the ability to navigate in-game menus and play games from other genres, including downloadable titles on Xbox LIVE. Easily switch between functionality for the left analog stick, right analog stick, or the default D-Pad setting.

Exclusive Translucent Casing with Blade-Inspired EDGE Bezel and Stainless Steel Screws

B006EJ38X2_scv_stick_x360_04.jpg

With a unique bezel which mimics the weapons used in SOULCALIBUR V, there's no mistaking this FightStick for any other. The translucent casing provides a glimpse into the controller's inner workings, and the stainless steel screws used on the control panel reinforce the sword-themed appearance while retaining their lustrous finish.

Heavy Metal Base

B006EJ38W8_fightstick_foot.jpg

This is no cheap plastic toy; the durable metal base increases the FightStick's weight for a solid, secure feel when draining your foe's life bar. Easily unscrew the rubber feet to securely mount the FightStick to a table or other solid surface.

13 FT USB Cable with Internal Storage

B006EJ38X2_scv_stick_x360_03.jpg

A 13-foot-long controller cable ensures maximum comfort no matter what your gaming setup is. Stash the cable in the internal storage compartment to keep your gaming weapon sleek and ready for travel.

Connects to the Console via Lag-Free USB

Proven in and out of tournament play at the highest levels, the best players from around the globe prefer the FightStick's high-quality wired USB connection over wireless controllers. From World Champion, Daigo “The Beast” Umehara of Team Mad Catz, to many of the top eight players from the EVOLUTION world finals, the Arcade FightStick: SOUL Edition is the obvious choice for casual and competitive gamers alike.

Has anyone used the UMVC3 Hori Stick? I see they have them on cross counter store and am tempted to pick one up but I have never used a hori stick only Mad Catz TE's.

Are they worth it? I have no doubt they are probably good sticks but it is a 150 bucks.

$150 is pretty standard for an all Sanwa stick. If you're used to a Mad Catz TE the V3-SA/VX-SA are similar.

The notable differences are the wrist/palm area rests on the Hori sticks differ from the Mad Catz ones. The Hori ones follow the feel/ergonomics/layout of the Vewlix arcade cabinet more closely.

The parts used are the same. The stick is lighter and the cable is shorter than the TE stick. Also, the stick is noticeably louder/more hollow due to the design. The Mad Catz TE sticks have a middle plastic part in the casing that helps to dampen the sound and reduce the hollow feeling.

Let me know if there are any other questions. I'm sort of a stick guy.

This is a valid argument. But as someone who personally never uses the seventh and eighth buttons, I can't see myself pressing the start button by accident.

Thanks for that information, it's extremely helpful and the price doesn't bother me at all because I expect to pay at least 150 for a TE version stick.
