Why would they even bring over Code freaking Geass novels? Not only are they utter shit, but there's much better novels they can adapt like DaiDen.

About the only smart thing english LN publishers did was bringing over Spice and Wolf

"Three series that were announced last year, including Turn A Gundam, My Ordinary Life (Nichijō) and Gosick, will not be released and their rights will revert back to their licensors."

So, someone else could pick them up again.

Also, more relevant portion of the interview:
But the broader reasons are quite clear from the outside. The physical anime business in North America has shrunk substantially over the last five years, and shows no sign of returning to its former glory. "A couple of times we were hit with huge returns, and the financial result was pretty bad," Iyadomi admits. Still, he believes the division might have been able to keep going for a few more years, had the SBU allowed it.

"The pricing range for our products kept dropping in Western countries, and people tended only to buy sets with very reasonable prices, which we understand is what fans want, but it lead us to a different strategy than what Japanese licensors wanted," he remarked. "So we always had a problem [with licensors wanting something different than what consumers wanted]."
Surprise surprise, licensors don't like it when we can buy 24 episodes for <$30.

Only one thing is clear: the role of a distributor for anime in North America is changing, and some well-equipped licensors can now cut them out of the process entirely, if they choose. Japanese publishers can now create Blu-rays with English subtitles, ready to import to English speakers worldwide. While those won't sell as many copies as American-produced discs, the higher price point and lack of middleman can still result in a decent amount of revenue with little additional cost. Bandai Visual Japan recently discovered this for themselves with their release of Gundam Unicorn. "They found the results pretty good, and that's how I think they would like to move forwards," Iyadomi says.

I believe Monty Python is in order.

What about the online distribution? Take Crunchyroll for example, $60 a year for unlimited access to their entire library. That is a steal and I can't see the Japanese licensors liking that either.

At the moment Crunchyroll have to remove some show when the DVDs get released.

In the future I expect "Fairy Tail" model will become the standard where the episode is only available for one month.

Late to the thread, but yay for more Natsume. Nothing else looks very appealing at all. When are we getting more "certain scientific" or "certain magical"?

Then you're deluding yourself into thinking that tsundere bromance is not the epitome of male expression.

Aren't we, dear reader, rather than these cynically brilliant postmodern creators, the real perverts???

...no
.
Clearly you are, or why else would you still be watching?

I can't remember, have you seen Utena yet? If so then you, too, can join my exclusive club of nakamas.

Limited time offer only.

I could lie right now and weasel my way into the elite group of Icarus Nakama-hood, but I sadly have not.

It is on my "What the fuck is wrong with you? Why haven't you watch this yet?" List. So maybe I could get "Pending membership verification" on my application?

Thats just how cats speak in Japan. :D

Foreign cats and their crazy ways.
I'm sorry what!? All it is, is showing that there's more to him than just being a pervert, where the heck is the sexisim in that? It'd be more sexist if the one guy was absolutely useless surrounded by nothing but girls who get shit done and being anything other than an overt pervert with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.
If you know it's a bad idea, then why bring it up?
All these posts whining about there being too many posts are only contributing to the problem!

It's certainly not how you slay a beast.

Slam Dunk 67: Hahaha this reminds me of the opening to the last match in Space Jam.

Slam Dunk 68: The score is only 2-2 after twenty minutes of animu time. I need me some Gunbuster to explain all this.
ESPECIALLY UTENA
what the hell is wrong with you
I still want a pet tampire.
Those are a big responsibility. Are you sure you will be able to feed it properly?
Show of the Winter boils down to this and Area no Kishi.
Man, how does AnimeGAF deal with no sleep? o_o I'm getting old...
Animu is a worldwide phenomenon. It makes sense that people in different time zones partake on it!
Mawaru Penguindrum End

I loved it.
Truly one of my nakama.

That's pretty much the heart of the matter, isn't it? I suppose when Japanese licensors know how much the Japanese market will pay for the release (usually a silly amount of money) it's presumably quite distressing how competitively DVD's/BD's etc are priced in America.
Bakemonogatari 3

Well, that was retarded.

I believe I have gotten to the loli snail. Wish me luck, everyone.

That arc certainly drags uncomfortably, and the character is focuses on doesn't help much either.

Night on the Galactic Railroad > Angel's Egg.

Kon is a fun series.
It is light hearted, cute as fuck and has great music.
I really dont understand why it gets so much hate.

If only we all had :cajun mindsets, animu fandom would reach a better place. ~sniff

This is a spoiler. I repeat this is a spoiler and you will burst into flames if you click it.

Am I a bad person for laughing out loud at this?

But how much time did you spend researching that essay by staring at Senjougahara's underwear?
Well, images had to be acquired somewhere. If you're going to talk about fanservice, and frankly it's a valid a topic is any other, then you have to get down into the dirt. I was partially inspired by the rather serious book The Erotic Anime Movie Guide by Helen McCarthy. Of course, she goes into far more detail about the history of such practices than I did. Then again, she has been writing about anime since 1991.

Of course, I also talk about the episode as a whole, not just it's ridiculously self-indulgent beginning.

I love the reaction from Belldandy. I hope she is impressed with what she saw.

But what a cruel punishment to turn Keiichi into a CG-bike. That's not elecrifying!

Btw icarus, as much as I enjoy watching you suffer through Bake, I think you'll like the broadcast ending, because it was competently executed.

Speaking of Senjougahara, she's totally ruthless against Araragi in the novel. Compared to the anime, it's on a whole other level. Here's a taste: http://www.baka-tsuki.org/project/index.php?title=Bakemonogatari/Bakemonogatari/Mayoi_Snail/002

They really need to translate more bakemono rather than crap like Infinite Stratos

The Infinite Stratos light novel is so bad. So fucking bad. I mean I thought it was the poor translations that messed up the flow or something, but no. The content itself was terrible.

Yup, I could only barely get through the first volume. Goddamn terrible.

Eh, episode 3 is pretty bad, but episode 4 is better and episode 5 is really good. Obviously YMMV but that's probably the worst this show gets.

I don't know, original snake girl arc with original animation is pretty terrible. Well, the final episode of that arc anyway.

Keep in mind I never saw the broadcast version so I have no point of reference to dispute that. I'll just take your word for it then :P

I must be the only person who didn't find Bakemonogatari 3 terrible, if weaker than the first arc and without the stand-out moments of the next two episodes. The conversation with Senjougahara was rather entertaining.

It's quite easy to imagine, actually. Just imagine if there was only about 1 minute of animation in the episode and everything else was stills and from a distance.
