PS Vita US Launch Details (Launch Games, Accessory Pricing)

Makes me wonder if they're struggling to produce these in high quantities, or just didn't expect them to be very popular so didn't produce many. Also absent from the EU release as far as I can gather.

maybe they know the sale price for this memory card is too high so they try to keep a low quantity

I actually would have considered Monster Hunter (never played one before) for the Vita because it seems like a game that would play better with twin analogues. Maybe I'll look towards the 3DS one down the line, assuming the rumoured redesign appears (not interested in the franken-stick thanks!), and that a Vita version doesn't seem likely.

I never played one either but I would if it was released on Vita.
I'm also not interested in the claw!

Whilst I am sad about there not being a PSV developed MH, I am extremely pumped for playing MHFU with dual analogs. As silly as it may sound, I find playing with the claw so uncomfortable and clunky that it really hurt my enjoyment of the game.

First there is no rumored 3DS redesign, that's just speculation, hardly a rumor; it has been said multiple times that the battery would suffer more than it's suffering now and R2/L2 buttons are basically impossible to add if you want to keep the device portable. We could speculate that Nintendo may release a 3DS XL Hardlycore edition of the handheld that may include the Frankenstick, but that is not a rumor, it's a theory based on nothing.

Second, I can't even begin to understand why would you prefer playing on a VITA than on a 3DS with Frankenstick, from a comfortable standpoint. You should realize that the VITA lacks the R2/L2 buttons, and no, the back touchscreen is not an acceptable replacement, in fact, there is no game that mimics those buttons on the back touchscreen (that I'm aware of, maybe someone thought it might be a good idea, but all I've seen is replacing those buttons on the front touch screen, probably because of accidental pushes of the bts).

Also you have the ergonomics to take account off, the Frankenstick is infinitely more comfortable to hold than the VITA or 3DS.

Last, you may say that you prefer the VITA analog sticks because, you know, they are analog, but maybe you don't realize that the camera of MH games is digital and not analog, so you don't benefit from the extended movement of the stick, maybe in new games from that series, that will change, but as of now, there is really no benefit in having analogs, I'm willing to bet that the game will be more comfortable to play without the Frankenstick, using the on screen camera; just like MH Tri Wii was more comfortable to play with the Wiimote+nunchuck. The Frankenstick was made because of MH, but that doesn't mean it plays better with it, it's something to please older fans of the series.

I also don't agree with your "oh, this game is popular, I must play it" attitude. MH is not Angry Birds, it's a game that's good when played with friends and better locally, it's demanding of your time, it's difficult, it's difficult to begin, etc. Maybe you should look for a cheaper way to play a game in the series to understand if it appeals to you or not, the game has been released in most platforms anyway (PS2, Wii, PS3 (jp only), Xbox 360 (MMORPG), PC (MMORPG), PSP, 3DS even iOS has one (spinoff), DS and VITA are forever alone).

It seems like most developers are taking the wait and see approach which is pretty much a catch 22. It'll definitely be up to Sony to produce significant content unless most developers just start porting PS3 games.

I feel like one of the main reasons Monster Hunter moved to the 3DS is so Capcom can just reuse their standard definition textures. I think if Monster Hunter was on the PS3/360, we would have gotten it on the Vita. Though I guess the Vita could still probably get a Monster Hunter Portable 4th or whatever.

It's a pretty stupid thing to keep the graphics in the standard definition-era since it will limit Capcom's use of those assets in the future. If Capcom had gone HD they'd have sales from the PS3/360/Wii U/PC versions, even more with the Vita version, and easy to port content to make more iOS/Android spinoffs. By going 3DS they're taking on older hardware that has been eclipsed by every platform out there, so porting over assets from a 3DS game will not look very good.

But hey, this is Capcom
and Nintendo money hats
for you.

How is "the data rates will be the same as we charge for other 3G enabled devices" not believable? What makes you think it will be anything different?
No ones saying that it isn't believable, but it is in no way official. I also wouldn't be surprised if it is more on par with what the Japan plans are. Prepaid makes a lot more sense with a video game system, that a lot of people under the age of 18 will have.

Also, half the time those retail employees find out about stuff after we do.

It's stupid in the long run, sure. But companies and shareholders only look to the present in terms of profits and sales. They'll not only make much more money than they're spending on developing, but they can make it much faster than if they were to redo everything in HD.

I'm still fully expecting a MH game on the Vita though. It may not be anytime soon but I don't doubt for a second that one isn't being made or planned on being made.

Who says that it wouldnt be prepaid?

The ipad data plan is prepaid and the vita one will 100% be as well.

I don't think the Japanese hourly plans are unique to the Vita in Japan. I highly doubt AT&T will be trying new business models with the Vita and will stick with the one they already have.

According to AT&T's site, iPad data plans are not prepaid anymore; they're postpaid.

Yes, they are contract-free, but you get charged according to your data usage at the end of your billing period. If you go over 2GB or 250MB (depending on the plan you select), you get charged overage fees.

In the past, iPad data plans were prepaid. The key difference was that you could buy 250MB or 2GB chunks, and when you ran out, the device would ask you if you wanted to purchase more at a reduced rate.

I hope the Vita will be prepaid, but I doubt it.

Plus credit checks can be required, which would be an issue for those under 18. A pure prepaid plan makes a lot more sense.

It's too bad that Vita doesn't have a built-in type adhoc party mode. That would have been fantastic and made it the best system to play MH on imo.

Yeah, that would have been perfect. Being able to play via 3G could have been pretty cool.

I wonder if Sony would be able to build upon the PSP emulator to include ad-hoc party...

I can't say for certain. But I believe that this is the case, yes.

What has my stating that I want to play MH anything to do with it being popular? Where have you gleaned the information that I like games like Angry Birds to the exclusion of all others? Or that I'm not prepared to put time into a game to get good at it?

I'm interested in the series because it seems like a game that I would enjoy, based on what I've read of it. I've never played the game because it doesn't exist for a platform that I play games on that I would be comfortable playing that kind of game on (closest game I can think of would be Phantasy Star PSP and I didn't like the way the game controlled).

I have no interest in attachments to portable devices, of any kind. If the speculated redesign doesn't happen I flat out won't be picking up a 3DS for games like this.

Unit 13, Uncharted, Resistance or Shinobido proof that is not necessary to have R2/L2 to have a full console game managed with Vita controls. You don't need R2/L2 buttons, or even L3/R3, because there are a lot of alternatives to fit the necessary keys in Vita.

Placing scope bar as a slide in the side of the screen, using contextual buttons on screen to focus camera or use secondary items, for example.

you can still use the psp version though right?
No, you probably can't use the ad-hoc party on the Vita. That's information from the Lord of Apocalypse Q&A - the question was if the game has online multiplayer and in the answer they stated you can use ad hoc party on the PSP, but can't on the Vita. In this case the game has 2 versions (Vita and PSP) so I'm not 100% sure if PSP games that you run through the built-in emulator won't work as well.

Funny how they have the memory card release date set for 1 week AFTER the Vita launch. 2 weeks after if you count the first edition bundle.

EDIT: Nvm, its changed to the 22nd. It was the 29th for me earlier >.>

US Boxart?

What difference do R2/L2 make to MH3G on the 3G?
PSP had R1/L1 only and that's all that was needed - with Vita mapping of the right stick i personally don't even want that either :D

(and i'm playing 3G without the frankenstick - don't miss it)

I also don't agree with your "oh, this game is popular, I must play it" attitude. MH is not Angry Birds, it's a game that's good when played with friends and better locally, it's demanding of your time, it's difficult, it's difficult to begin, etc

yup, when a western version of MH3G comes out i want to see everyone cheering the game on buy the game and give it a whirl (if they haven't already) - but i guarantee some people aren't ready for the hefty (and repeated) kick in the nuts the game delivers.

Box art will look better on the actual box (dat dpi), not blown up on your computer monitor.

Of course it's a joke.

Any indication what Lumines is gonna cost?

It's gonna be a day 1 launch game for me regardless (most likely), but I'm hoping it's more like $29.99 and not $49.99

I'm hoping the same thing, but it is bought regardless of the price. The first Lumines didn't leave my PSP for the first year that I owned it.

That makes as much since as Tetris Axis releasing at $45.

Whatever, day 1 for me.

Do we have any new vids on MLB '12 and confirmation that it is indeed Mar 6th release same as ps3?

I'm trading in $170 worth of games I'm not playing anymore which is going to take the sting out of the paunch price. I'm still torn on what memory card to get, but I'll be getting Lumines, Hot Shots Golf and Wipeout. It is funny to see all of the negativity regarding the system. The more I look at it, the more I want it. I'm going to have a lot of downtime this semester and the Vita will fill it nicely.

Well at least Lumines split the high and the low possible prices I guess

Day 1 for me so far is loooking like:

Vita Wifi - $249.99
32 GB mem stick - $99.99
Cradle - $19.99
Carrying Case - $19.99
Uncharted - $49.99
Lumines - $39.99
Wipeout - $29.99

Total: $506.93

Could possibly lower it by going with the 16GB mem card or finding a deal on some accessories.

What the fuck, amazon. Where are the memory cards

Ha! I was just looking for that as well and about to bitch about it here. I was about to place my order for the system and games, but I'll wait until they add the cards so that I can get it all shipped in one box.

I havent priced this out yet but I've already saved 300.00 towards all this. Of course all these games depends on reviews but this looks like the best launch lineup since the Dreamcast (I dropped 800.00 on that launch).
