Japanese version works fine with the SIM card removed, or with your own SIM card in (just says 'invalid SIM' but the vita doesn't stop working or anything), or with 'mobile network' switched off in settings.

Plus of course the prepaid plan with docomo can expire and you have no requirement to renew it.

So its fine.

I've turned my mobile network off for now, just in case polling for a signal uses up the battery a little bit. Can't use it yet in the UK so no point having it switched on.

I really should update the OP to include things, but why waste effort on a dead platform?

If those in Japan/Import-GAF have their Vita writeup somewhere in here PM me the link so I can edit things.

yeah i give up, i searched all around the web and there is no site that is selling the vita for a normal price, its all 500 dollars or more.

which is bullshit btw, why the fuck are they selling it for more than the price sony announced.

ill just wait a month and a half i guess.

im glad i have skyrim and arkham city on my pc

It would still lack the GPS stuff. But for me, the 3G stuff is all about accessability, and not having to rely on WiFi connection or use a phone.

Buying portable chargers for both Vita and my phone will benefit my wallet in a longer run than paying for 3G. Besides I got my phone for gps.

My friend bought a 20GB PS3 at launch, because he said the extra ports and WiFi were useless. Then, Ad-hoc Party/Remote Play came out.

Yeah, he regretted his decision.

Yeah, no + on the Vita yet.

If Sony were smart, they'd offer 10% off of every Vita game for Plus subscribers, offer a choice of 2 free PSP games when you register your plus account on Vita and then have regular, decent sales on PSP games, PS1 games and Minis. That would certainly keep me subscribing and I'd definitely go entirely digital with a plan like that.

?
but nowadays people have a smartphone that can tender 3g network to other devices.
His decisions make more sense than to spend more money on data plan each month.

GPS.

Not all games will use it, but some definitely will.

Hmm so it will be like dsi to ds?
only some games uses the camera so their games will sell to the most users i guess.

I am not planing to buy 3g too , do not think there willl be a killer GPS game and i will have my phone for the 3g network. :D

In what way?

Looks ok and works like any smartphone browser, but supports shit, nothing, zip, nada, so why even use it in it's current state. Tried uploading files in gmail, does not work. Dropbox upload did not work, for me. Youtube videos don't work. HTML5 score for this was bad.
That is Vita browser for me in a nutshell. Needs an update.

Seconapp neogaf works fine though.

How good is Uncharted: Golden Abyss?

There is an official thread for it somewhere and comments in this thread too, but I fucking love it! It is Uncharted 1 on a handheld, simple as that. Some simpler graphics here and there, but same atmosphere, nice music & sound effects, solid new shooting mechanism with motion controls and nice little other touchscreen thingies. Some touchscreen stuff becomes a bit repetitive later on or is not really better than button mashing would be (fighting swipes) but most of the stuff works. Location variety is lacking compared to U2&3 but looks goddamn cool in your hands. I am now a true fanboy of Golden Abyss and I think many who loved U1 will love this as much.

Welp, i got a PS Vita from my wife as a late x-mas present, along with uncharted, an 8gb memory card and a screen protector. No wonder my presents on x-mas day were kind of skimpy lol.

Happy about it but not entirely thrilled as i remember posting about how i would wait for a price drop before purchasing one due to the one account per vita situation, ah well.

First impressions:

The PS Vita is big. Plain and simple big. In my opinion it completely dwarfs the 3DS i have. This makes for a good thing as it seriously helps with immersion. Dat OLED screen is indeed very kick-ass except for blotchiness on dark screens. Hopefully this is not an issue with my unit specifically but with OLED tech. I regret putting the screen protector on, its giving the screen a "filtered" look, so i am be looking at taking that shit off. Battery life seems to be very good. Played for 2 hours on 60% brightness and seemed to still have 80% left.

Still not a big fan of the bubbles on the home screen, they are not symmetrical =(. And if you look somewhat close you can see jaggies lol. It is very snappy however. The right analog placement feels weird at the moment for me but hopefully i will get used to it. But with that said, this device fucking feels like a next gen handheld. IMO very much worth $250.

Uncharted GA impressions:

Dat graphics =D. Dat controls =(.

Seriously, i could not believe the graphics the Vita is able to pump out. Really feels like the first uncharted game on the PS3 but on a handheld. And this is a launch title. Gave me a mind fuck as how Sony Bend was able to pull it off. But the controls, my GOD! No two ways around it: shit. Luckily there has not been too much fire fights but aiming just sucks ass. I complained about aiming in UC3 before the patch but this seems much worse. Acceleration is wonky as shit and there seems to be slight input lag. Really bad indeed.

However i am very much liking the direction of the game. If the controls can be patched in it would turn this game from good to excellent. Another thing i dislike is the forced on touch screen, especially with the title screen... *facepalm*.

Alas, that are my impressions for now. Hopefully the Vita does not bomb, it has the potential to be an excellent system given its power and myriad of control inputs.

<impressions>

Nice impressions. It's a shame to hear about the control issues. I've seen vids on youtube where folks are trying to use the sticks to aim and it looks almost impossible to do so. They are really left to aim the reticle in the center of the screen and turn and straff to hit their targets. With a game that features so much shooting. You'd think the devs would have nailed the controls.
Is gyro aiming any better? It looks as awkward as hell moving the screen around your face to aim.

you can use both at the same time. So sticks to get close, then fine-tune with tilt. Works well, but sometimes you have to move it a little far, I'd have liked it to be a little more sensitive so I'm not waving it around so much.

I really repeat myself here but Gyro/motion/intu aim system in Uncharted is.a.must. If you don't use it, you will complain about the aiming definitely, because aiming with sticks is not precise and frustrating.
Use motion controls. It might be a bit hard for the first hour or two, but they will make the shooting *pulling a number from ass* 10 times better.

What? I thought awhile ago Sony said tethering would not be possible on the wi-fi model.

Connecting to a tether source is something that anything WiFi capable can do. All you're doing is connecting to a wireless network.

Being the tether source is another issue altogether, and that's probably what Sony meant. Pretty much all carriers have clauses prohibiting you from doing that with smart phones on normal plans.

I loved Uncharted on the Vita.

I found the smaller scale of Golden Abyss refreshing after the globe trotting and huge set pieces of UC2&3. Definitely feels more like UC1.

The added exploration elements to find the multitude of collectibles (which add backstory elements that flesh out the main plot) fit with the smaller scale, Tomb Raidery vibe of this game.

My solution to shitty aiming in combat was : Options > Aiming > Aim Assist : ON > Enjoy shoulder button tap lock-on goodness. Without this the sticks constantly overshoot in what I assume is an attempt to force you to use the gyro for fine aiming.

Writing and dialog is almost up to ND par, but it gets a bit verbose at times and the cinematics are a bit too numerous and long for my tastes. Other than that though it had the usual great Uncharted character banter.

I liked most of the use of touch in the game, and to my surprise I actually ended up using it a lot for clambering and melee. I liked the use of touch in the collectibles too. Didn't like the use of the gyro for aiming nor the return of the log balancing crap from Uncharted 1.

Visuals on that Vita screen are amazing.

Feels like a full console game, basically.

Gmail has mobile HTML version. Did you try it ?

The PS3 web browser scores 27 out of 100 on HTML4 support. But it supports Flash and YouTube. However it is prone to crash when JS is turned on.

Vita scores 45 on HTML5 tests. I can't remember if that HTML5 test is out of a total of 100 though. Someone can run the same tests on PS3 and PSP to compare.

If retailer are to truly cut the price of Vita in JP, makes me wonder how long before the same happens here.

Personally, I feel it's a great product for the price but what is not so great are the prices of storage units.

Also, who is "Nuclear Muffin"?
