Was that when WWE was still taped? That Bishoff /Tony Shiovanne spoiled it on WCW?

Yup.

Also the same night as the fingerpoke of doom.

Yes, WCW was making fun of the WWF's title change on the same night that they themselves had their Heavyweight Champion literally lay down for Hulk Hogan.

The finger poke of doom and Foley winning on the same night really was the biggest night of the monday night wars. WWF never looked back after that night.

I'm really starting to believe that Bill is UltraMantis Black. I wish he was. Remember talking to him on Myspace years ago about the FirePro updates that had CHIKARA data on them. hahah nerd memories over :(

Meanwhile in Japan (again)...

You sir have given me the greatest compliment I have ever received. I fear I'm not devious enough to be Ultra Mantis Black. I wish I was to though. I don't think I ever talkef fire pro on myspace, might have been another Bill, but that CHIKARA data ruled. Nerd memories are awesome!

He's awesome! That year (or two) with the Neo Solar Temple and Hydra were comedy gold!

An update on FCW people who worked the main roster last month

Several top WWE developmental talents recently worked tours for the main WWE roster.
I was told that FCW champion Leo Kruger was given solid marks for his pre-match mic work, putting himself over as the top African athlete while working heel. The feeling was that he needs to project more in the ring to connect with the audience but his look was very good.

Seth Rollins was given high marks for his work inside the ring. Rollins was praised a lot for matches he had with Tyson Kidd on the road and for his selling as a babyface.

Dean Ambrose was viewed quite highly by management, both in how he worked, how he conducted himself backstage and with his pre-match mic work. The talk was that if the company could find the right role for him, his gravely voice and delivery could translate well.

13 years ago today Mick Foley won his first world title. This is still my favorite Raw memory ever. Listen to that pop when Austin comes out and then Foley wins.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-N2MnuwlXw&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Probably my favorite pop ever. So fucking good!

So good, nothing like an emotional title win, that and Foley's one of my favourites. Also Michael Cole is pretty good on commentary for this moment, usually he is the killer of big moments.

Exactly. Cole isn't bad, it's just the character they're making him play right now is fucking stupid.

MPW BRITISH COMMONWEALTH JUNIOR HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH;

IWGP Jr. HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH;

08. Great Sasuke (c) vs Black Tiger (Eddie Guerrero)

Classic New Japan show here from '96 - this was just two months before the J-Crown title was formed, and on this show all 8 belts that make up the J-Crown were defended by their respective owners. The first awesome match on the card sees Shinjiro Ohtani & Kazushi Sakuraba compete for the vacant UWA title in an excellent UWFi style match, lots of awesome submissions and transitions, great work from both guys and the least Juniors-style match here. Next, Super Delfin defending CMLL World Welterweight Title against TAKA Michinoku nearly stole the show, both guys work full speed throughout and it's an excellent display of the puroresu-lucha style common to M-Pro. Both guys are incredibly well versed with each other, so while it's not the most technical or well thought out matchup, it's still a ton of fun. Meltzer gave this one 4 *'s.

Now, the real show stealer was the semi-main event as Dick Togo defended the MPW title against Jushin 'Thunder' Liger in an amazing match that saw Togo, the heel, essentially playing a babyface role as Liger just utterly dissects him, working over the arm brilliantly while Togo's excellent selling easily gains him sympathy from the fans, who pop huge when he makes his comeback. Meltzer gave this one 4.5 *'s, a real match of the year candidate for 1996. That just leaves the main event, which sees Great Sasuke defend his title against Eddie Guerrero under the Black Tiger mask. This is a strange match that starts out with a whole lot of mat work from Eddie on Sasuke's arm, before breaking down into a sprint for the last 5 minutes or so. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but Togo/Liger would've been a much more appropriate main event.

The aftermath of this show sees Liger challenge all the other title holders to a four night tournament which took place during the annual G1 Climax and where the titles defended on the show above would be unified to form the J-Crown Octuple Unified Championship.

In a story that has surfaced online WWE Champion CM Punk is scheduled to get the January 28th ‘Raw’ house show in Evansville, Indiana off in order to appear at the UFC on FOX 2 event in the corner of Chael Sonnen. Dave Meltzer confirmed the story with Sonnen, who fights Mark Munoz on that card in a middleweight bout. The card takes place in Punk’s hometown of Chicago, Illinois and takes place the night before the ‘Royal Rumble’.

That going to be hilarious. Its great exposure for WWE to have Punk there, but shows that WWE doesn't consider UFC a threat.

Cole still isn't very good. He's better with heel guys beside him to keep him in line, aka heel Lawler or JBL.

He was fine both with heel Tazz and face tazz. It's Cole's character that's the problem. It was fine on NXT but it's been turned up 10 notches on RAW and ruins the product.

That going hilarious. Its great exposure for WWE to have Punk there, but shows that WWE doesn't consider UFC a threat.

If it wasn't a show on Fox and just a regular PPV fight then they may have felt differently. Either way it's going to be two of the greatest men in the world

Apparently Frankman has been banned. How will we make up for the loss of insightful non sequiturs and entrance theme lyrics?

I'm not sure why he hasn't been wrestling but I miss seeing him CHIKARA. I dont think he's gone anywhere else, but what I wouldn't give for him to return in love with kelly kelly.
I thought that everyone was convinced Hydra became Dieter VonSteigerwalt?
Frankman apparently got banned for posting a pirated link in a Sailor Moon thread.
