Chihayafuru 4:
So, we're back to the present, and it seems like Chihaya has gotten a lot better. But, she's the only one who has so far. There were some nice moments, and the ending was well executed (if predictable). This show continues to tug at my heart, and I'm finding all of the characters really engaging.

Oh my.

I don't think the part I got to in the manga ever covered this stuff. Wow, lol.

That never happens in the manga. The movie was basically just the anime staff going insane and doing ridiculous shit like dinsoaurs being wiped out and people playing tennis on a sinking ship.

Not that the manga doesn't have some very ridiculous moments itself.

Sports + Shounen = Prince of Tennis.

It's true. Most other sports shounen titles don't have anything near this ridiculous, they actually try to stick to something like reality. I think the most ridiculous thing in Major were the 550 foot bomb broken bat home runs. But that dude was definitely juicing so I could see that being slightly possible.

My biggest pet peeve with any basketball anime though is that their shooting percentages are pretty much always like 95%. Nobody ever misses a shot unless the rebounding scene is of significance.

Honestly the more egregious thing in sports shonen for me was stuff in Eyeshield like having only like 11 guys total on the team or the power of black muscles.

im pretty sure that normally the outlandish effects in prince of tennis are purely symbolic
but then echizen plays while submerged under a wave of water on a ship and im not sure anymore

I stayed up all night play Katawa Shoujo too. It's cool.
Damn, not even Katawa Shoujo could get me to pull an all-nighter.

It's real. It's from the movie.

Here is the whole scene.
oh my god

The series isnt that bad. Its actually really rather good. and fucked up. and good.
AND FUCKED UP.
Hamdo in the dub was really fucking disturbing:

im surprised nobody giffed the nonsense that was the tennis match on the cruise ship

is that the one with underwater tennis where they fly off into the sky to have a battle of tidle wave vs fire tornado, I posted that once in summer thread but can't find on youtube anymore.

not sure about the gif but a youtube link was posted in the summer thread(or was it spring).

Well, we could always have a Negima girls ranking. Wait. No. Forget I fucking said that.
Evangeline > Zazie > Nodoka > Yue > Natsumi > Chachamaru > Setsuna > Chao > Mana > Ako > Akira > Haruna > Konoka > Makie > Ku Fei > Sayo > Chisame > Kaede > Satomi > Asuna > Ayaka > Kasumi > Madoka > Chizuru > Yuuna > Satsuki > Misora > Fumika > Misa > Sakurako > Fuuka

That was entirely your fault.

Everything about the car sequence is absolutely fabulous max.

I also love the blatant troll faces smothered across Touga and Akio's faces that everyone is completely oblivious to.

A shirtless Touga-senpai a day keeps the doctors at bay.
WHY IS IT SO WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE
It's real. It's from the movie.

That's totally a Final Fantasy VII homage at the beginning.

Uh... not really. The show still heavily relies on moe (not fanservice, but definitely moe). It's not your standard moes being moe or moeharemshit, but it's certainly still very deeply rooted in moe.

I did not feel strong moe vibes apart from the wide faces

Crazy.

Mana > everyone except our goddess and savior Evangeline Athanasia Kitty McDowell

It uses the moé for the shock value, but it has very little pandering of the like moé shows include.

New Prince of Tennis 1:
Well, it was a decent first episode. They got through more material from the manga then I expected (the first 3 chapters), but they did cut some stuff out. I would have preferred to have the scenes of everyone meeting up rather than that anime added scene of the coaches mentioning everyone from Seigaku's abilities and what not. Still, it's just awesome to have this series animated at long last, and Oni, Irie and Tokugawa all seem to be spot on casting wise. I can't wait to see some of the awesome matches from later in the series.

I would say not more than Sailor Moon.
I would. Sailor Moon is written for girls with an entirely different aesthetic and appeal. Madoka was written for male otaku and designed to appeal to them. It's not necessarily sexual, but the majority of the mechanics designed to impassion the audience for the characters are heavily based in moe principles. People who don't like moe might enjoy it more than other moe works, but that has nothing to do with whether or not it's moe.

I just have my qualms about it because of the paper-thin plot and characters. The style and mood is top notch though, so if you like that sort of thing, go for it.

Uchip, you wouldn't know what moe is if it danced naked in front of you and called you Onii-chan. :P

Madoka is one of the most coldly calculated pure otaku pandering works I've seen. I don't see how anyone can deny this.

I don't even know what his means. Perhaps you could explain it.

See, I know what this means because it's not constructed around a word with no agreed upon definition.

Mawaru Penguindrum 21

Ok so from what I got from this episode
Kanba, Shoma and Himari aren't sibling which was hinted at from before. Also their "parents" have been dead for some time, but when exactly? Did they die in that accident or was it somewhere later? Also what's the deal with Sanetoshi? Dead or alive?

[Red Garden 11]

This was episode was thoroughly okay, although I feel that the show was doing better when the drama was about the central cast trying to get along and deal with their lives. I'm not sure what the point of this whole 'Grace' arc is. I just know that this:

Was much, much better in Oniisama e... because it was about something. I guess the rules state that if you have drill hair you have to control the ruling body at high school. Strangely enough, Kate seems to have the least character out of anyone. I don't even know what her motives are.

The cinematography was, as usual, fairly pedestrian, but totally serviceable. The show still looks pretty good most of the time, even if it generally lacks animation. This is because the character designs are still detailed, even when they are very stiff.

Also, I'm pretty sure this is some sexual harassment:

Madoka 10 - 12

It was a fun ride, not much I can say other than that. As one explanation came after another, it became a little bit less interesting, but at least we didn't get a
Super happy
ending. That would've killed the plot.

Music and art were the series' strong point, as well as the conflict between characters regarding the contract.

Though was it just me or did the characters look off a lot of the times in the first few episodes?

Anyway, i'm interested to watch the movie that's supposed to introduce a new story.

What was up with Homura fighting those monsters in the middle of a desert at the end, though?

Indeed, it goes about it in a far more disturbing way. (ie, pandering to perverts who like to see little girls get hurt and cry)

ok now you're reaching

Been a while, but I remember her turning into a witch at the end.

based madoka removed the need to replenish soul gems by rewriting reality which somehow meant that they are now fighting demons instead of witches
or something

Honestly, I don't think Idolmaster fans have much room to talk here. At least if we're going to go with uncharitable assumptions about fanbases by default.
