I hate how the sponsors names have been injected into the bowl games. I'm okay with them having a short commercial at the beginning or even having a presentation at halftime or the conclusion of the game.

Unfair? Really? Speak for youself. Les Miles commented directly after the UA-LSU game that "it would be an honor to face Alabama again [This season]", and the LSU players shouted, clapped, cheered in excitement after the BCS bowl matchups were announced. Judging from those comments and reactions, LSU seems pretty happy with who they're facing.

No doubt. They're guaranteed at least a split title as long as they don't get blown out.

Did you know the Discover card is the official credit card of the Discover Orange Bowl?

At least they haven't renamed the bowls like they do with all non BCS Bowls. And the Cotton Bowl I suppose.

It is ridiculous. On that massive new screen at Sun Life Stadium for the Orange Bowl, part was sectioned off just to run sponsors the entire time with the rest showing the game. Then the other normal stuff running nonstop via screens, announcers, each quarter being sponsored, etc. I was waiting for a sponsor to be announced for the goal line and the rest of the yard lines.

But the sponsors taking over the actual bowl name or just outright being the bowl name is bad too.

I like how the Rose does it. "The Rose Bowl presented by xyz." Can still get annoying, but at least it's not directly part of the name.

Don't give them ideas. That kind of thing won't surprise me. Bowls are all about money, so if they can figure out a way to get more then they will. Companies obviously pay big money to get their name out there, and if they can, they will.

You mean the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl? :p

You mean the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl? :p

Its always been the Fiesta Bowl, even before Tostitos sponsored it, even when Sunkist and IBM sponsored it.

Stupid bowl anyways, it should have been the Cotton as the fourth BCS bowl.

Yes, IBM.

The 93, 94, and 95 Fiesta Bowls were officially called the IBM OS/2 Fiesta Bowl.

From every article I've been reading, if Alabama wins by 14 points or more, there won't be a split title. If Alabama wins by fewer than that, it's down to the last few votes to determine it.

Arizona money, holmes.

I think SI had a piece about the history of the Fiesta bowl during the beginning of the scandal with the chairman and such.

I wonder with Cotton moving to Jerry World, if they have to be in line next should there be a BCS shakeup or expansion. Certainly over Capital One.

Crazy to think Texas has zero BCS bowls.

I believe that is the idea. However, I hate Jerry Jones and his new stadium. I hear its quiet and sterile.

I love the old Cotton Bowl, especially after they decided to add more urinals during the expansion.

You remember when AOL sponsored 1st and 10? Because THEY FUCKING DID AND ESPN/ABC ANNOUNCED IT EVERY FUCKING TIME.

Never understood how the Fiesta Bowl was thrown in with the BCS system. Rose, Sugar, and Orange were always the Big 3, with Cotton coming in a distant 4th.

I miss when the Capital One Bowl was the Citrus Bowl....

Which bowl replaced the Gator Bowl?

Taxslayer

Peach Bowl also had a nice ring to it.

I thought I heard/read a few years ago that the Chick-Fil-A bowl was held in pretty high regard with the BCS types. I don't know if that meant it was in line to move up or anything, but I distinctly remember that. Didn't the Georgia Dome host the Sugar Bowl after Katrina?

yeah, Chick Fil A has about erased the Peach Bowl from memory.

I saw the "TicketCity" bowl. What did it used to be?

Yep. WVU vs. Georgia, with a "home game" in the Dome.

Mark Richt blew that game too.

New Orleans and the Superdome has to be pleased. BCS Game, Sugar Bowl game, and the New Orleans Bowl.

Intermixed with the Saints in the playoffs.

The Cotton Bowl Classic when it was actually played in the Cotton Bowl. Techincally, it's a "new" bowl because the history of the Cotton Bowl Classic went to Cowboys Stadium with the game ... but yeah.

Cotton Bowl stadium's replacement for the Cotton Bowl game.

Ahhh....

Fucking Jerry. Should just call the Dallas Stadium game something else!

To be fair, New Orleans is probably the best bowl destination. Would much rather go there for a trip then the other three.

Especially you, Arizona. Fuck you.

EDIT:

Montee Ball: "I took the time to take in everyone's opinions ... I listened to my heart and I will be returning for my senior season."

Via the Badger Football twitter page.

I'm guessing it had to do with the success of Florida/Miami and the ACCs ties to the Orange Bowl. The people forming the BCS probably thought those two schools would continue to be in it every year.

Also losing the Big 8 tie in hurt the Orange Bowl a lot.

havent watched much USCe fball but really .. but LT's are the premier nfl position these days

LTs have been a pretty important position for awhile now. The Seahawks made the Super Bowl a few years ago because they had one of the best LTs of all time blocking for some scrub RB out of Alabama.

Ahhh, no Bowl game on tonight, but what IS on, will no doubt be a better game to watch than the Sugar, Orange, Rose, and TicketSlayerTax.com bowl.

The UnderArmour High School All Star game!

Catch the game, to see prospective Alabama Oversignee's!!!

Look at the matchups of the 4 games over the last decade. Each game goes on dry spells for a couple years, before getting a "Quality" matchup.

The Orange Bowl hasn't had a close game since Kansas/VT. Which sounds like a boring matchup to me. Not since 2006's Penn State vs. FSU's triple OT game has there been a big time matchup.

The Sugar Bowl had what seemed like a decent game this year, and last years OSU/Arky game "should have been good" but was marred with LOLTATOOOOOS. Before that, there was WVU/UGA, Auburn/VT, and Saban's 1st MNC against OU.

Wisconsin offensive coordinator and line coach are gone next year to Pitt. Russell Wilson is gone. Montee Ball put up 1,923 yards and 39 touchdowns this season as a Heisman finalist. Running backs already have a short lifespan in the NFL and Ball's running style is going to make it even shorter.

Can't say it was a good decision for him financially. Hope he takes out some insurance.

How many OLinemen are departing?

Orange Bowl was fine during the 80s.

The reason the Cotton Bowl lost most of its luster? The SWC sucked when the current system was being thought up in the late 80s and early 90s. The SWC never won the Cotton Bowl between 1989 and its demise in 1995, an 2-8 in its last 10 years.

Oh fuck you.

For a football game, I would much rather go to the Rose Bowl. For everything else? Sugar Bowl.

Alshon Jeffery has scored two touchdowns in his last two games against Clemson. That's more than some entire teams! trollface.jpg

I remember for the first few years I refused to call it the Chick-Fil-A bowl and continued to say Peach. Now I've all but forgotten the original name :(
They could at least call it the Peach Milkshake Bowl.

Well to be fair the Orange Bowl got fucked by the Rose Bowl after the 2003 game. In 2002 USC tied WSU for the Pac 10 title and was the hottest team in the country to end the season, but because they lost head to head with the Coog-its they couldn't go to the Rose Bowl. The Orange Bowl got them and used some sort of loophole to take Iowa while Ohio State went to the Fiesta Bowl for the MNC.

Since the Orange Bowl ended up with the more traditional Rose Bowl Matchup and the Rose Bowl ended up with Wazzu for Oklahoma (and the Sugar got screwed out of taking USC) the rules were changed making it so that the Rose Bowl would always get a Pac 10/Big Ten pairing if possible. If the Rose Bowl hadn't forced the BCS to give it Pac 10/Big Ten every year then maybe the Orange Bowl would have gotten some better matchups.

Who the hell ever suggested that as a BCS Bowl?

Can't spell Capital One without UT.

Anyway, we've already got a fruit-based BCS game in Florida. And it's garbage.
Eh, I think Florida Citrus Sports, the body running the Capital One Bowl, has been trying to position that bowl as another BCS bowl. They presented a massive renovation plan for the Citrus Bowl in order to make a run but budget issues kinda of allowed them only to get a new field. Pretty sure the plan is approved by the county/city but there is just no funding. Amway Center and a random performing arts center tied up funding too.

I believe up to 3 starters are gone. Peter Konz is a junior and projected 1st round pick.

Yeah, Ball should go. I know he's got word that he'd project as a 3rd round pick, but you gotta go. Most RB's are going in the 2nd and 3rd round now (interested when Richardson goes, though). But all that you've mentioned, he's going to have a less productive year next year.

Damn, this is a really bad year for NFL teams drafting QBs.

From what I can tell, here's the QB's for the Draft

Luck
RG3
Weeden
Kellen Moore
Case Keenum
Russell Wilson
Nick Foles
Kirk Capital One Cousins
The Dynamic Duo from LSU
The Brantleynizer
Not Kevin Prince or Zach Maynerd
SR QB's from small schools across the nation
and Finally, Dan Persa.

Well, I feel confident in 1 of those players.
RG3 might be good, depends on how his skill will work with NFL defenses.
I don't have alot of faith in Weeden, Moore, or Keenum. They each have the taint of Colt Brennan on them.

Is Ryan Tannehill not a senior? I've seen his name come up a lot.

Early odds for MNC next year from Caesar's Palace:

LSU 3-1
USC 6-1
Alabama 7-1
Oregon 9-1
Arkansas 12-1
Georgia 15-1
Florida State 18-1
Oklahoma 18-1
Virginia Tech 18-1
Michigan 18-1
Kansas State 25-1
Texas 30-1
Nebraska 30-1
Oklahoma State 40-1
West Virginia 50-1
TCU 50-1
Iowa State 150-1
Field 50-1

You mean Hartford Colonial* Colt Brennan?!

*
The Hartford Colonials suspended operations and folded before he could play for them, and was not picked up by the 4 remaining UFL teams.

David Wilson should go to, 4 OL leaving, especially now with Ball staying.

He's announcing tomorrow at 11 i believe.
