I was never able to figure out why I didn't want to get TWEWY. I think it might've been one of those situations where someone you know just won't shut up about it.

Maybe the next time I save up some money, I'll look around for it.

EDIT: Worst JRPG? Final Fantasy 4.

You guys are talking about handhelds, right?

Haven't played a handheld since the Gameboy Color days. I hear there are some decent games for them, but it's hard for me to get excited about playing on a little screen.

I never finished a handheld RPG until I played them on DS. The games are just that much higher quality.

Worst JRPG I played I think was Unlimited SAGA on PS2. It looked really cool but I couldn't get into it all.

:O You never even finished a Pokémon game!?

It's not that they're weak, they're just intimidating.

A lot of people think you need to be watching both screens at once, but it's all about getting comfortable enough with one side of the battle to where you can focus on the other side. It's hard to realize this until you hit the first major boss or so.

Ah, I see. Well thanks for the heads up but if anything all you've done is made me want to play it more! Intimidating? Come at me TWEWY, I'm an og-SMT vet.

I do love the game, although it has been so long since I've played it... I really ought to play it again. Playing the game always makes me feel giddy, especially the battle in the concert hall since I used to go to that concert hall all the time.

As for the last JRPG I played: FFXIII-2. I'm here to tell you: It's okay. I had a good time.

Speaking of which, what is the WORST JRPG you've ever played? I mean ever. I know this might get a lot of FFXIII replies, but really... you know which game just makes me scream at the thought? Beyond the Beyond. Have you ever played it? Playing it is liking looking into the pits of hell.

Absolute worst?

I can't really think of any that I've played which were particularly terrible. The Last Remnant maybe? It's still... okay, though, just really unpolished and almost funny in how often it breaks.

Oh man, this is actually a tough question.

Pure, unadulterated worst?

Lagoon for the SNES.

Enchanted Arms is the worst JRPG I've played this generation, easily.

Ever? Damn... that's a hard question. It's probably still Enchanted Arms, only because before I had my own money I only ever bought the good ones.

I think glory of Heracles on the DS was pretty bad. Not AWFUL, but it was just generally forgettable. Sands of Destruction was full of bad voice acting, but some pretty awesome music, so I forgave most of its flaws. Except the battle system, which is brokenly hard for the first part of the game till you can chain attacks (which is never properly explained in-game). Once that happens, the game is brokenly easy.

Worst JRPG? Hrmmmm...I can't really think of any. I'm a pretty easy guy to please when it comes to them, even games that I hate on like Infinite Undiscovery I would hesitate to call 'the worst.'

I liked The Last Remnant. Sure, I never figured out how the leveling actually worked but meh.

I liked Enchanted Arms more than Lost Odyssey COME AT ME GAF

I liked it right from the self-aware tutorial sequence, and kept liking it all the way until the last quick and dirty automated battle.

I hate the metalheads who hang out in Guitar Center playing heavy riffs for hours on end.

It's like... I'm trying to test out delay effects, and I have to listen to this guy doing a terrible Kerry King impression the whole time?

I wanna jam :(

I've yet to find one person to jam with since playing guitar/drums 3 years ago. Feelbadman.gif, guess it's partly me thinking I have to play like hendrix/John bonham before I should even try. Any Toronto real pic gaffers?

Mine has got to be FFVIII. I hated that game.

GET THE FUCK OUT

worst jrpg has to be XIII, because for the most part I don't deal with bad jrpgs.

fixed breaking bad guy and now done with page 4. this seems pretty sysyphus-esque, but i hate to give up. what to do dammit.

I never knew a lot of people thought of TWEWY so highly ;o This is interesting. I'll tell that to my friend to convince her to play it haha

I think I quit playing a bit after they introduce the two battle screens and yeah, it was pretty intimidating. So it's alright to just switch your attention between the two screens and leave one alone while you work on the other?

I haven't played enough JRPGs to play a terrible one.

:O You never even finished a Pokémon game!?

I've played a Pokemon game for around five hours, and thought it was fun but maybe not for me (as far as playing it to completion. I really did think it was fun, but I didn't think it could hold for me over a longer period of time.)

I'm gonna do a weird thing here where I will agree with you that FFVIII is bad, but I'm also going to defend it a bit.

There's some cool stuff in the game that people missed out on. Like how Seifer hated Squall due to the fact that he perceived Squall has being lazy and not working for his skill. The reason this was a big deal to Seifer is that he watched a movie as a kid that changed his life and gave him these ideals to get the girl, protect the ones he loves, and fight for every inch.

He went through his entire life never realizing that the person who accidentally convinced him to think this way was Squall's father.

FFXII is the best 3D Final Fantasy. FFIV is the best 2D.

Something something did Squall die when he got impaled something. I thought that the system for 8 was interesting, if not easily broken.

Yeah, I usually focus on Neku because that's where the most important battle lies, but if he's just dashing around or the enemy isn't a huge thread, you can focus on the partner.

For Shiki I almost never followed the prompts. I'd just hit left repeatedly on the D-Pad unless I was focusing on her. More often than you'd think, she'd still pull off attacks.

Wait, wtf am I talking about. FF12 wasn't the worst at all.

Xenosaga Episode 1.

Couldn't make it past three hours.

I had a friend who sold it after about an hour of play. She really really wanted it to be a continuation of Xenogears. Now, I love Xenogears but I have to say I ended up enjoying Xenosaga quite a bit too...

I think FFVIII is probably a good example of a game that I would not be able to play today.

When I was a kid with unlimited free time to grind out spells and wait for the story to get better, that was fine. These days, not so much.

Well yeah, that's one of the reasons I've shied away from RPGs in general.

The only massive timesink I can live with is Pokemon.

Fun fact: my name on GAF is appropriated from the attack Crunch.

The only way I make it through JRPGs nowadays is with cheats. No way am I going sit around grinding for 5 days when I could just through one some EXP multipliers and get it over with way faster. Pokemon games are notoriously bad at the low EXP thing. I swear there are only pokemon at horrible levels outside of the nearest gym.

Replaying it when it came out for PSN made me realize how abhorrent the controls are.

They really are a tragedy. I wanted to play that game so bad till I found out that there was no way to force even semi analog controls on it.

I might just have to get a DS if the games are that good.

There have probably been more threads on GAF salivating over the DS's collection than for any other propriety gaming platform.

It is second in acclaim only to PC.

You can ruthlessly murder helpless Audinos for lots of exp. in Black and White.
