Wow, that's some cool crazy stuff there, Sentry!

H.Protagonist, your avatar reminds me of Rashida Jones.

Has someone already said that?

This is missing a few stages. Particularly the anime nerd stage from 14-16 and then the visual kei nerd stage from 19-21. Also no mention of living in Japan and learning Japanese, but I don't have room for everything!

I think I get way too into the chanting music in Skyrim sometimes.

Aaahhh... Your doodles are lovely. I like how the last one is an amalgamation of the finer points of the first three. I hit your stage two as well, and enjoyed the hell out of being a nerd. Still do, really. :)

Not much of a story teller
or artist

But I think the point gets across.

Hahaha. In monochrome like your other avatar pics. Very fitting, I think. I love that you go off the page in the last bit. :D

TMNT doll ^5. TMNT was the shit. I also had batman figurines and toy cars. My sketch can pretty much be summed up with "tomboy" through all stages of my life.

TMNT was definitely my favorite until we moved back to California from Colorado. In CO, my brother and I had two large rubbermaid bins full of TMNT toys. We had the sewer playset; the turtle van, turtle blimp, turtle bike; and the Technodrome.

Right before we moved back we had the bright idea to give those two bins (and one full of Batman stuff) away for some reason, only keeping our favorites.

Doh!

Wow, are you secretly my brother or something? I could have told this exact story, except we moved from Conifer, CO out to Florence, OR rather than somewhere in CA.

That was my cousin. His family had the money and he was an only child so he had all the toys. I remember once he got a new bear hugging Hulk Hogan doll. Out of spite I broke it and he cried we were like 8 and 9. Few years ago I found it on Ebay brand new and gave it to him for his birthday. He still has it up on his wall in the case.

Thanks! Well, I mean, rather than really changing it's more like things being layered onto one another. So even though I became a goth, I was a very nerdy goth :o I still read fantasy books and played video games. My nerdiness has always been with me, and I'm pretty proud of that :3

and just to start another debate..

as far as TMNT go....Raphael>the rest

This man speaks the truth.

You're not the only one who had a goth phase. Really though, I just had a love for black lacy clothing. I was pretty much a fantasy nerd my whole life, and an anime nerd since age 8.

Some of your abbreviated life stories are really great. Kinda makes me wish I put more effort into mine. Great stuff guys.

This made me smile. What a sweet thing to do!

Seeing his face when i gave it to him was something else. Even though it had been twenty years ago and we had grown apart there was something about that time still left in us and for that second it showed.

Haha, crazy. I lived in Arvada, CO.

Hah, what the fuck. I also lived in Arvada for a number of years. Around 8th/9th grade, I guess. Maybe longer; we moved back and forth between Oregon and Colorado a few times for different reasons, so it blurs together a bit. Would always be looking for stuff at that Buy Back Games up on Wadsworth, because you'd find the best shit in there for some reason.

If you learn from them, I don't really consider old wounds painful.

I don't think I would be someone who fights as hard as I do for the rights of other people if I didn't face so much racism as a kid. I help to make people's lives better because of things that are far in my past.

When you think about it that way, it makes it okay.

Haha, yeah, I can't say I was into the darker aspects of gothiness. I just really reaaally wanted to wear the clothes. Especially after spending many years hardly thinking about what I was wearing at all, it was refreshing.

I still have a few bits and pieces from those days, although if I wear them it is mostly to add something to a concert/party outfit.

Some things you can't learn from though, sometimes people do terrible things and there is no reason for them.

It's the reasonless stuff that you learn the most from, really.

You learn life kind of really blows sometimes and there are people who are worse than you that will end up better off than you. Shit sucks. But you can still make life better for yourself and other people and never have to deal with those people again.

Okay, I made one.

I'm so sorry that people are assholes. I was in Manhattan for 9/11 and some of the things I heard afterward just made me want to scream. How ignorant can people be?! Anyway, I totally empathize with the 'getting good at video games to be useful to other kids' thing. I did that with games and art. As long as I could offer them something they left me alone. :P

Made one! Left out stuff about my parents since that generally just makes me angry. :lol

You just keep doing what you're doing and get to college. It will be all the sweeter for the sweat you've poured into it. Working and accomplishing your goals and living out your dreams is the best way to stick it to people who are dicks, too. ^_^

Ugh. I need to get that motivation back. Two years later, I'm back at square one.

I see a slight smile in that last guy, though, so I'd say that motivation will return something fierce. ^_^ 23 is a nice calm age, too. Maybe you should do an EU train run to inspire you? cheap and guaranteed to leave you with crazy/awesome memories.

The reason some people are shitty (shitty classmates, shitty parents, shitty siblings) is because they couldn't learn from it when people were terrible to them. They didn't take the lesson that causing pain doesn't help them feel better or do anything for anyone else.

If you did learn that lesson, then you're better off than they were.

I dunno, I say this as someone who also had a shitty childhood, but turning the memories that haunt us in to strength is the best thing you can do, in my opinion.

Ok, I'm in.

Edit: Regarding the other real pic thread, it definitely changes my perception of people on GAF. For the better in my opinion. I much prefer having a face behind the "personality".

I feel you. In circumstances like that all you can do is try to move on in spite of it and gain strength knowing you lived through some shit.

Ya, and one thing I've learned is that everyone goes through shit and deals with it. It's really helped me.

I was a philosophy major in college because I wanted to be an Ethics teacher in High School. I really want to make peoples lives better. But there is no money in money in making lives better. :(
