PlayStation Vita Japanese Launch Thread. "APOCALYPTIC!" says concerned Nuclear Muffin

That is stupid but so Sony. I would have expected no less on Vita launch, i can access the whole PSP library that is already on PSN AND free backward compatible with PSP games i already bought.

Sony sticking to their old shit and so why Vita will fail, iOS gaming will just make it faster. Vita does not feels like an enabler machine, consumers dont feel empower by this technology.

What's to stop someone borrowing their buddies games then/used/rented games??

Virtua Tennis 4 is a launch title in the US, right? It doesn't show up on Amazon.

Still trying to decide what launch titles to pick up in the US. Any consensus from JGAF on the best Vita games? Is Virtua Tennis 4 a return to form for the series?

man, silver level in Minna no golf is really tricky. Very narrow and hilly fairways, and lots of hazards. Got a 350yd drive though on the first hole, even with my starter character, just because it ran down a huge hill so far. But one mistake and you're dead. Such a great game.

:P

If I could only choose one, I'd go with Gravity Daze despite only playing the demo so far.

good new article at Eurogamer.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-01-06-veni-vidi-vita

the article and user comments are far more fair and realistic about Vita's future than a lot of the doom and gloom seen here and on other sites. finally some rational people.

While I think the doom and gloom talk is silly, the article can be pretty much summed up to "guys, don't count Vita out of the picture, look at 3DS!". That's fine, but what are the reasons for 3DS's strong come back? Price cut and software. Nintendo had a smashing lineup for the end of the year, with three strong hitters. The massive price cut did wonders too.

Would Sony do a price cut? And what about software? What do we have on the horizon?

I doubt Sony will cut the price, so they need killer software. They need to find a sales driver, a game that makes people think they need a PSVita. That game was Monster Hunter, but now that Sony dropped the ball with that, they have to find something else. It's a lot easier for Nintendo because they have a lot of popular franchises in Japan, and while I don't think Vita is quite doomed yet, Sony has a big challenge ahead.

Picked up a Vita last night, got a good deal on one. Really loving the thing, can't wait until I get more games on it (wipEout!!!). Uncharted had a LOT more aliasing than I was expecting, but aside from that, it seems to be a full-fledged Uncharted in the palm of my hand... and that, my friends, is quite awesome.

I hated Welcome Park, though. Damn slider puzzle trophies!!!

I fucking love Uncharted as I've said here on GAF a few times already. Minna no Golf is good, but gets nerve wreckingly hard later on. I love it and hate it at the same time. Katamari is ok and Little Deviants is good and bad, but a good showcase for Vita functions. I would say buy Gravity Daze too, as I too think it might be a hit.

My friend loves Army Corps but I haven't tried it yet as I am waiting for the english version.

I still think Gravity Daze May release is a misprint or false information as the japanese version is finished. But it might be that Sony doesn't want to have too many great games in launch and just wants to postpone it to give it more focus.

For launch i'll definitely go:

Wipeout 2048
Escape plan
Shinobido 2
Motorstorm rc
Gravity rush

Other games i want but purchase later, due to budget constraints (and maybe hoping for some price cuts) are:

Virtua tennis
Rayman origins
Uncharted golden abyss
Army corps of hell
Lumines
Unit 13
Ultimate marvel vs capcom 3
Ridge racer

I just realized i'm going to spend a fortune...

Yeah, still didn't finish them. So hard :(

I wonder when we will get Rayman's release date. Why did Michael Jackson Experience and Dark Quest get released before it anyway... Also, according to this 4Gamer article, Rayman Vita doesn't have multiplayer.

Yeah, I'm really terrible at them in general but the ability to slide past the borders really helped, and I was finally able to finish them up after a few hours of trying. -_-
I probably retried the final one about 100 times. lol

More Uncharted impressions: I couldn't get used to the motion assist aiming, so I had to turn it off, and I'm doing much better now (although the sticks took some getting used to as well). As far as the game goes, I'm loving it. Absolutely love the new gameplay twists to the treasures/mysteries/etc. I can't believe it but I'm enjoying this more than Uncharted 3 so far.

Yeah, I can't do the two bigger slider trophies on Welcome Park... need my younger brother to help (he's a master at these things) but he's on the other side of the world!

Question that might have been talked about before but I'm bringing it up now so let's talk about it again okay:

What Japanese PSP games on PSN (Vita's PSN) do you guys recommend, if any? I've flipped through them a few times and almost pulled the trigger on a few more, but I was wondering if anyone had some omg-super-awesome recommendations?

I think I'll ask my friends to do it, as it's impossible to be worse than me.

As for the Japanese PSP games... I'd go with Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, Final Fantasy Type-0 and Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity (when they release it). That's what I bought anyway.

Ha ha... I will try that in Feb.

Technically, it can emulate a PSP "perfectly".

But to make UMD work on Vita, the good PSP hackers can either
1) hack Vita PSP emulator to load our ripped PSP games, or
2) somehow create a PSP game installer from UMD, and have PS3/PC copy it to the unsuspecting Vita

I think I read that Vita need new version/format of PSP iso, it's why people have to redownload psp games on psn before they can transfer it to vita, and why, currently, you can't transfer US psp games on japanese/hk Vita because the US Vita store is not up yet.

Thinking of purchasing from the hk store Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom or blazeblue, wondering which game has more of the english language in them?

I bought Ridge Racer last night great game I'm trying to work out what's what with the language barrier, I'm liking the visuals so far. The frame rate is a little over the place at times. I feel if they spent more time on develepment the game would be smoother :)

One other thing I like about the Vita is having my metal music playing while I'm racing in RR :P

Found this in few seconds googling:
For potential importers, know that while the Vita supports multiple languages, whether or not a game does is case-by-case. Of the titles we tested, Uncharted offers full options for English or Japanese voiceover and subtitles, Everybody’s Golf 6 and Little Deviants are completely in Japanese, Ridge Racer is mostly in Japanese but has semi-English menus, and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and BlazBlue offer English menus with Japanese subtitles.

what?! This is a launch title? That's a first party title and i have seen no news of a launch release anywhere until this post.

I honestly hadn't even heard of Motorstorm RC until I saw this post. And I'm actually a mild fan of the series.

I buy everything Motorstorm, so that would have been a sweet launch release here in the states. But it would probably stomp ModNation even further into the dirt so maybe it will be good to delay it a little. want both to have success.

EU eh? what about the US?
http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/12/02/motorstorm-rc-interview-a-refreshing-change/
Judging from the comments, we caught you by surprise when we announced that MotorStorm RC is coming to PS3 and PS Vita in time for launch. You all seem really excited about the game so I followed up with its director Paul Rustchynsky to discuss in more detail the vision, the Cross-Play with PS3 and PS Vita, and the social interactions that will be at the heart of MotorStorm RC.
