Ben-To 05-06: This is the first time I've been thoroughly underwhelmed by this show. It is very difficult to emphatise with
a rival gang trying to conquer the Ice Queen's turf
because, aside of one brief scene where
the Ice Queen herself gets bloody and crap
, it doesn't feel like there's truly anything at stake. It's not like the wolves would
stop trying to get their meals only because the new Monarch rules the place
.

I know it's just a pseudo-
war of factions
on a really silly premise so I should shouldn't be expecting anything real serious, but it seems like a missed opportunity not to take the consequences of such an event to its most extreme conclusion; the concept itself isn't painted any more dangerous than any of the ben-to fights we have had before. Oh well, at least the fight was fuck awesome.

Does :firehawk always imply a bittersweet or sad ending? I'm not up to the particulars of all the :nameemotes here.
Mono no aware. Bittersweet with lots of self-awareness and the capacity to move on with your life.

There's a big difference between a franchise that has aired on the Disney Channel and had a hit film with a ton of mainstream advertising and a show which gets sold bundled with "dress up your favorite idol and take creepy pictures of her" games.
Pretty much.

Also, this is what their working place looks like:

Eh, the fanbase was already there before the anime and will remain there after the anime.[/QUOTE]
That's what I'm really saying though. It's the same fanbase that always buys this stuff... probably the same guys buying IS and Persona 4.

You're about to enter the shitty part of the series... and I don't think it really recovers.

So Zero no Tsukaima's back, it's been so long I forgot a lot but it's nowhere near as bad as with Shana where they use so many special terms that it all sounds like gibberish to me. It's also a marked improvement over the other seasons where they add all sorts of fanservice filler. It's still there but not as offensive as it was before.

I don't think Idolm@ster was aiming to be "big mainstream" stuff; the Gravure 4 You bundle was planned from the very beginning, after all. I think that what Unknown actually meant but didn't say very well was that they could've halfassed it ala Persona 4 but didn't... mainly because there is a degree of real love from the staff to the characters and the franchise. To be honest, the main reason I was originally interested in Idolm@ster was that they got someone that I know for certain is legit fan as director. Nishigori isn't your usual "I always liked the source material" interview bullshit guy; I followed his blog back in the Gurren days and he constantly posted fanart of the girls and pictures of his new PSP with all all 3 versions of SP.

Completely different fanbases, actually. Persona 4, for once, has a primarily female fanbase. They're all "nerds", but they're not the same "nerds".

As 7th shows, if there's anything to be said about Imas TV, its that is a true labor of love. I'm sure the budget was decent, but considering the major staff and their love, it's more than just money that gave us this end result.

Edit: lol we both posted at the same time. But its to be said that I'm super happy Imas got the treatment it did compared to other ventures out there.

[Michiko e Hatchin]
See above, what happens to her at least in my opinion shows that she just became some immature and irresponsible person later on. It doesn't fit how she acted as a child when she showed way more forethought.
I don't think we have much material on Hatchin's adolescence to be able to call her that. And you know teenagers are fucking idiots anyway. I've seen some of the most intelligent girls in my middle and high school years undone by drugs and sex. For what it was, Hatchin turned out pretty okay!

You have to take into consideration that she
has to basically rely on just herself from the moment Michiko returns to jail. It isn't hard to think that she may have fucked up here and there without some type of guardian figure to guide her, and indeed I think that was the point of that scene. Life went on, and Hatchin could have turned as bad as Michiko, but didn't. Her life was not a reflection of Michiko's, and she managed to fuck up and succeed in her own ways.

I don't think it is stereotypical at all. In fact, I believe that's very empowering.
I don't care that my opinion may not be a popular one.
With how old she is, the only excuse not to use protection is lazyness and irresponsibility. I know that accidents happen sometimes but I still find that what happened with her at her age completely went against how she behaved as a child. Of course in the case of something like rape that wouldn't apply but the anime made it clear that it was some old boyfriend of hers. I get that she's a teenager so she's horny and shit because of hormones or whatever but putting on a condom would take five seconds.
I'm sorry if that offends anybody but it's my view of the subject, like I said before it may not be a popular opinion and obviously there are different cases and circumstances but imho it just shows a giant lack of forethought and maturity.
It's not offensive at all. I'm just looking at it from the point of Hatchin's character development and saying it doesn't sound jarring or out of the left field.

Well, either way, it's still nerds buying it. I mean, will imas get plastered over merch at convenience stores and all that?

Gurren Lagann 18

I don't like
government bureaucrat Rossiu. What an asshole. Too bad Simon has way more fighting spirit than that dude so he'll never win.
Rossiu Lied. People Died.
Gurren Lagann 19

I want to kick Rossiu in the dick. Kinon can fuck right off as well. Viral at the end was awesome! Those kids are super badass pilots, the whole fight sequence was crazy.
Viral is indeed awesome, but the unsung hero of Gurren Lagann was Leeron.

In much the same way no one else cares about K-ON, amirite?

You're on some very very strong medication if you think Idolmaster in any way shape or form is as close to being as popular as K-On.

IM@S did get plastered at convenience stores. It's actually not that hard to get plastered at convenience stores. Lawson does that kinda shit with anime all time.

That pic is hilariously photoshopped.

While I won't deny that it might have happened, K-On got actual marketing campaigns in convenience stores and fastfood chains. Its not comparable at all.

For something which is really as light and fluffy and transient and ultimately quite silly as THE IDOLM@STER is, everyone who has worked on this franchise has put a lot of love and dedication into it. I think in a world of cynicism where everything in the mass media is distrusted, something like this is increasingly rare. Everyone who has worked on this franchise seems to genuinely enjoy being a part of the whole endeavor. And that is, I think, why THE IDOLM@STER is as successful as it is in a world of generic, over-produced, soulless pop music, pop stars, and pop culture. It's also quite admirable when you realize that none of these fictional characters exist outside of the created world. We're a lot closer to Rei Toei and William Gibson's Idoru concept than he could have imagined. Well, Gibson is alive today, so maybe he knows that he predicted things like Hatsune Miku and THE IDOLM@STER. He can add that to the list of things he predicted, like the Internet.
I stopped watching im@s in episode three after the awful episode with the shy girl. I do have to say your writing has made me reconsider dropping it because, just like with K-ON!, at the very least it sounds like someone was having fun when making the show.

You should at least watch episodes 8 and 9. Great goofy fun.

The start of the show is very shaky, but it finds it's footing during the episode where Ryuuguu Komachi debuts and remains solid throughout leading up the not-:firehawk ending.

personality? I don't think think the meat sack came with one.

She backseat to nia cuase otaku want to see flat chested loli over big tit old hag(she not 14 anymore).
But Nia grew boobs in the second half of Gurren Laggan. Humongous boobs.

Basically what you are saying makes no sense.

Dude, ANN reported it.

K-ON is certainly much bigger, but getting an "actual marketing campaigns" in convenience stores and fastfood chains isn't a particularly high standard. I personally find K-ON appearing in the cover a fashion magazine a much bigger indicator of its mass appeal.

Dude, do you think that isn't a photoshop?

Rest assured, I'm not impugning Idolmaster's honor. I'm just saying its different. The saturation is also different.

To be honest, I didn't check the link throughly. Should've just posted the ANN article from the beginning.

Gurren Lagann 25

NO NO NO NO. FUCK.

Kittan :(((((. Super Galaxy Gurren Lagann looks like it's going to be lolwut madness.

Gundam Age 13
tumblr_lxibwtUyky1qjpi5ro2_250.gif

Flit was amazing,
mastering X-rounder in just one episode and destroying UE mobile suits like they toothpicks
. That was an emotional rollercoaster, wow. Although it was predictable with what would happen with Armbat, it was still fantastic seeing
the transformed Diva, so cool, launch the photon cannon
.

Hopefully Age system churns something out for Flit, I dont think Gundam can triumph over Desil again. I hope there are no casualties of Largan or Woolf or Desil in this first gen of Gundam Age.

Yeah sorry to break up the Imas talk (I can't stand the show) but I will anyway.

Sailor Moon 36

NIGGYl.jpg

God damn mollusks. I think a slug is a mollusk anyway. I'm not really sure.

So how do you follow up the biggest episode of the series with tons of fireworks, massive revelations, lots of dorama and a huge need to take some action? Why by having girls sitting around doing nothing, melodrama all over the place and a sweet
hair salon scene, with the funkiest looking hair steamers I’ve ever seen in a hair salon.
I’m not exactly sure what I was expecting from this episode but for some reason this definitely was not it.

One of the things that struck me odd about this entire episode is how the episode consistently refers to Usagi worrying about Tuxedo Mask. It’s like there is an intentional disassociation of
Tuxedo Mask with Mamoru.
The “big reveal” was last week (I mean to the characters and not the viewers themselves obviously) yet the other characters in show (but not actually Usagi herself) seemingly makes it seem like it never happened.

frAull.jpg

That had to be one of the most bizarre forms of trying to
figure out who Sailor Moon is
I could possibly imagine. I have to wonder what Takeuchi (or Ikuhara or whoever it was if this was anime only) were thinking of when they thought of putting that into the story.

Considering the time frame of the story I thought it was a bit weird the whole notion of
DNA identification by strands of hair would show up.
Maybe it was already common place in Japan back then, I’m not old enough to know as I was just a wee child when this show started, but of course it didn’t even actually work within the episode.

That was the most ridiculously awesome youma of the week to date. I guess I really shouldn’t be surprised by anything in this episode, this is Ikuhara magic after all. The utterly ridiculous, fun, wacky antics were back even while the show was being completely serious, absolutely love that about this show.

I’m not sure if Ikuhara’s fascination with roses came before Sailor Moon or not, but god damn this show was perfect for him. That scene where
Endyimon which is a really ridiculous name
throws the rose
changes colors
was nice.

One of the things about how the show played out was just how generally irrelevant
Sailor Venus
has been. All the other girls got their time in the limelight but as soon as she was introduced she was literally buried by plot developments.
It’s the first time for her transformation
and well uh damn
dem thighs
. She barely gets any time in this episode too of course. The new BGM for Usagi’s attack was pretty weird.

All in all a really solid episode. Didn’t really go the way I think it would which was nice, managed to do the one major plot development and have some really cool bits here and there.

Looking forward to seeing how the show can keep this kind of plot development up for another 10 episodes. I'm guessing I'm due for a chain of filler with no real relevance to the story at hand for the next few episodes but that is just a hunch.

This show is giving me a new found respect for Ikuhara, which I didn't think was possible after watching MPD.

huh
didnt he only do one episode of that show?

No he's directed most of my favorites I've seen thus far including one episode guest starred by Norio Wakamoto who plays the most anti-Wakamoto role possible, a great episode of melodrama involving Usagi and Naru, an
NTR-ish
themed Rei episode, a hilarious meta episode
built around the anime production of Sailor Moon
and best of all the incredibly amazing totally off-beat Cat episode.

Princess Tutu 16:

dOKRP.jpg

The resemblance is uncanny.

The transition of Tutu going from saving the prince to saving people from the prince's claws was the most obvious in this episode. And, surprisingly, Ahiru's doesn't seem as shocked by this development as one would suppose. Her blossoming relationship with Fakir gives her a shoulder to rely on. I wonder if she would have acted this way back in episode five or four when she realised the horror of bringing Mytho's feelings back to him. Ahiru may still be a clutz and an absent-minded moron at times, but her character definitely feels stronger after all the misadventures she has had to endure. Genkiness aside she is much more reliable in the face of adversity. Ahiru boasts a new confidence when approaching Kraehe's machinations, a product of Friendship and Love and Ballet Magicks.

Mytho seems to be a foil to Ahiru's growth on the other hand. While he was never big on expression he definitely was a caring individual. How much we can attribute his change of heart to the Raven's blood is debatable, but I would like to argue that it is the desecration of the prince figure what's important here. Going with the episode's theme, one could say his objective is one of deflowering the hearts of the virgins in the school with intentions of malice or of self-gratification. You know, like Utena's Akio!

This episode had some janky editing going on. The way it cut out from the classical music to the studio-produced BGM made it much more noticeable. There was no segue between pieces, either aural or visual. Pretty weird.

Football games over.
Time to marathon Ccs.
Already seen several episodes but i'm going to start all over for maximum hnnng. I really hope i survive this.
