I think My dream game Is an RPG set in the Street Fighter universe except when a battle sequence starts its done as a 2d fighter. Leveling up etc makes gives you more health do more damage unlock new moves combos/etc.

Quit rubbing it in. ;.; I'm a huuuuuge point and click adventure fan and that I can't play this until it comes to some DD site hurts.

I'm going to admit, I've never been a fan of (most) turn based battle systems or the whole overworld where your characters are creepily large thing. My first JRPG was Secret of Mana, and so some of the things from that game have sort of stuck as my ideal.

Not that I haven't absolutely loved games that had those things.

The Legend of Dragoon was amazing I remember. Not sure if it holds up today.

Seeing that you're ignoring creepy PMs, I'll just repaste the whole thing here in the hopes of getting an answer!

"1) From what I gather, it seems that XSEED has one primary translator and one primary editor (on that note, that amount of work for two people seems utterly insane!). 2) Do the original Japanese developers provide any general guidelines on the text? Without getting some consensus from several people on some of the more ambiguous and/or nebulous phrases, I'd imagine you'd end up with highly idiosyncratic translations.

P.S. 3) I totally agree, bacon is super rad.
P.P.S. 4) Do you actually know Latin, or are you cheating with Google Translate?"

Let me break this down into numbered answers. :)

1) Yes. Our localization 'department' consists of 3 people. Myself (Senior Editor), Tom (Translation Ninja) and Kenji (long-suffering boss/coordinator with the Jpn dev teams). I think our output for a team this size is pretty insane too. ;)

2) Most don't for content/style, but all have their own specific limits/method of handling the text (excel files, open office, etc, etc). At XSEED we have our own guidelines, but the main goal is express the 'intent' of the text rather than a literal translation. That's really what localization is anyway.

3) It is most delicious. I am a big fan of the pig candy.

4) Saw the phrase somewhere and liked it. Alas, no Latin for me. ;)

It's funny that I like and know so much about FF but I've never played as many or beaten one. Unless you count Crisis Core or CC:ROF lmao.

You guys should hire journalism and writing majors for ensuring dialogue quality. >_>

Speaking of unrealistic game dreams, my dream game is like a mix between the Myst series and Skyrim, only on a larger scale. No fighting, only exploring a culture and trying to find out more about the people there. Eventually finding out about a problem within the society that is corrupting it from the inside and you have to find out a way to fix it using the knowledge you've acquired.

The reason I say "on a larger scale" is because I would want it to be unfeasible to just run to the next town. You'd have to find out some other method of transport because the world would be actual size.

My dreams, they are too big... and a game like this would never be made even on a smaller scale.

Have you ever played Seiken Densetsu 3?

I like it more than Secret of Mana, personally.

That sounds like my dream sci fi RPG game. It's focused on you living in different alien cultures and learning to fit into their culture. There's no combat, just social iteraction.

We all know FFVIII has the best FF...NAY...the best video game intro ever!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q09quI356sQ

I thought you wrote it was the best in the series. I hate that game. I couldn't stand the idea of constantly having to draw magic, and while seeming a good idea at first, the GF made the battle feel unbalanced. I found myself spamming the GF because I was low on magic. The only problem then is, you get to a point where the GF are ineffective and because magic is in short supply, you're pretty much fucked.

I don't feel like grinding away having to draw magic all night just so I can progress in the game.

This was the original concept of SSFIV when it was being pitched by Capcom USA.

I have and enjoyed it, though I think I still like Secret of Mana better. The reason is totally nostalgia glasses though, and not for any concrete reasons.

This idea sounds good too. It's too bad it would never sell the numbers they would be hoping for.

I did read about that and even saw the concept art. I'm not sure if it was an rpg or a Shaloin monks type game beat em up.

I'm glad they went the traditional direction with SFIV being that I enjoy the competitive aspect, but I would love to see an rpg side story made sometime.

I would play this game. O_O I loved Myst and would probably love Skyrim, and therefore would probably play the shit out of their unholy love child.

It's in my top ten games of ALL TIME.
Mine too... I put obnoxious amounts of time into that game, like MMO-levels. There was so much to do. Secret of Mana was also my first JRPG btw.

It was awesome and had a lot more to it gameplay-wise, but I still like SoM better.

That...sounds kinda interesting. But would it really have lasting appeal? I enjoy fighting game campaigns but after the 8th fight or so against an AI I start to get kinda bored. How would you keep it fresh and interesting (ignoring story quality).

Speaking of this, I recall someone doing a no-kill run of New Vegas. I was disappointed in how the last Skyrim encounter did not have a non-violent option.

I told my boyfriend about my idea, and he said, "No one would play that!"

He can't imagine a game without killing people.

Not entirely true, he likes music games like Chime as well.

I want this. I just want more games like Myst in general. We need more games like Myst in general. Fuck now I'm depressed

Yeah, speech is definitely pushed to the backburner in Skyrim.

I like playing games like that as a smooth-talker who didn't have to kill everyone and could talk my way out of situations like in Fallout 3.

For everything else, I had a flaming sword.

Doing a 'no-kill' run in Deus Ex was incredibly fun. Even when I wasn't going for that I always opted for non-lethal takedowns and weapons.

The irony of it is how the combat system is the weakest component of Skyrim. I'd do a no kill run if it was at all possible.

Haha that's the game I was thinking of. I abused the quick save like no other.

Dream game. Dreeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaam gaaaaaame. Let's make this game, Lissar. :D

On a random note, there's a lot of shouting going on in my complex right now. From what I can overhear, there seems to be a "crackhead" running around with a "garbage can" and also something about "squirrels."

*shrug*

1) That sounds like an intimidating amount of work. Kudos to XSEED for making things work so well.

2) Is it easier working in Excel or Open Office? No Google Docs?

3) Scenario: spaghetti alla carbonara. Do you stick with your tried-and-true bacon, branch out to pancetta, or go full-bore Italianate traditionalist and insist on guanciale? If you do stick with bacon, what specific kind do you get?

4) I took six years of Latin. If I attempted it right now, I wouldn't be able to stitch together a paragraph without making a devastating series of declension and conjugation errors. Then again, I am pretty dim. Sorry, Vergil
the poet of course, Devil May Cry gets nothing but a sneer
.

You haven't played Metal Gear Solid 3 until you've gotten Foxhound rating.

Maybe that's what I should pick up considering that there are pretty much no games coming out this month.

Edit: Even after beating Skyrim I have no clue as to what the shouts sound like.

Have new fighters join your party. In 2d fighter different fighting styles make the game feel new. Also some tag mechanics 3 fighters switching in and out. Also you would be leveling up to unlock and power up special moves(hadouken for instance). Stages would change depending where you are fighting. The game would have an overworld like a traditional rpg it would just turn into a 2d fighter during combat sequences.
