Yeah, it's more I was angry at that whole distance thing that didn't seem clearcut when I watched it (or I just didn't pay enough attention) but Articalys touched upon that showing that there really was a wall separating them emotionally.

I was actually enjoying the first half, thinking hey this can't be all that bad, but then I was battered with shitty CG mecha battles and hilariously terrible dialogue. "I'm going to burst.. and break!"

Fortunately, this episode has only a couple minutes of the substantially-less-interesting school antics, and they're right up front. Plus it seems likethe possessed classmate is going to try to kill them all, so even though she'll probably fail, we can hope.
Instead, the episode focuses on the neat stuff like alien worlds and characters, and interstellar intrigue, and HOLY CRAP IS THAT NORIO WAKAMOTO VOICING AN ALIEN? We finally get an explanation for the macguffin and it's suitably threatening.Despite the lack of real action, it was probably the best episode since the first, due to ignoring the less interesting earth stuff.Suddenly, alien terrorism. I'd like to think those cars exploded because they were mad about being ugly CGI.

It doesn't make a damn lick of difference.
The only thing the first Aquarion had going for it, was it's great OP song and even then Masaaki Endoh provided a superior version to it.
Someone will need to log what exactly was "uncut" about this, because the only thing I noticed was Kirei and Tohsaka annoyingly interrupting Rider's ownage of Saber.

I actually quite liked the original Aquarion. It was enormously stupid, badly written and frequently hideous to look at, but it had a few moments where I enjoyed myself immensely.

If you hate Aquarion (the original, not Evol) you have no soul. If you enjoy Aquarion but hate Evol...you are a strange person; Evol is not as good, but it's 75% as good as Aquarion and that's still better than most anime these days.
Looks to be the best mecha series since Gundam OO S1.

The second OVA is the funniest ep in the series, but yeah its not that wonderful. I only put it in my top ten because of Sakuma.

I didn't really like the first episode but it grew on me over time. Luckily as each episode is so short if you don't like one scenarios there's usually a new one coming up.

Have I mentioned that I really like the look of this show? Because I really like the look of this show. It has a very expressive style.
I'm glad I'm consuming this at a slow pace, because the format seems like it'd get old fast if I marathoned it. This way I can just appreciate each individual iteration of the story. It's making me think a lot about what I'm doing with my time now that I've graduated college.
There's still plenty left. I wonder how things will change going forward. I'm expecting a great payoff at the end.

ゞI like Star Driver, but I think Aquarion Evol having an actual plotline and with the potential to how it connects to and expands the original series could definitely be better. Also the attacks are no doubt going to be better. We already have God Hand and Asteroid Ramming.
